Fantastic experience: Love vgw been going here for 20+ years. Back when they where next to 711. The man behind the counter is so cool he game me a free gamecube fifa game yesterday

Positive experience: Clerks were talking about "9 foot tall futanari Bryce Dallas Howard breeding mommy". Decent collection, decent prices. I think the guy said he was the owner.

Josh Santangelo Posted on Google 3 months ago

Positive experience: If you're trying to sell something, make sure you wait for the guy that runs it as he's a bit more reasonable with price. Employees won't short you, but only by a hair.

Robert Maurer Posted on Google 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: Was able to find everything I couldn't find at other local retro game stores and more. Saw they even had the original NES package that came with Mario/duck hunt, two controllers and the gun IN THE BOX! I was blown away. Definitely worth a visit no matter what console you're into

Justin Posted on Google 4 months ago

Negative experience: Don't support scalpers with a brick and mortar. Walk out of any store that looks up eBay prices and tried to change them when you check out. They do not deserve your business.

Michael Mayo Posted on Google 4 months ago

Fantastic experience: Guy at the front was super chill, helped me out a lot with what I was looking for, left with a Wii, some games and 2 controllers for a great price. I will definitely be coming back for other games and maybe other consoles.

Meghan Posted on Google 4 months ago

Negative experience: HORRIBLE customer service. Came in to buy some games and the employee took forever to ring me up because he was looking up current ebay prices and printing new price tags as I was trying to check out. Absolutely ridiculous! You might as well shop on ebay instead for a better deal.

Fantastic experience: Awesome selection. Fun for the whole family.

Fantastic experience: This place is like going to "real friends" house and they let you lose. My knowledge of what they have is limited, but it's amazing just to see they have a lot packed in there. Nice, worth the trip

Shorty-G Posted on Google 5 months ago

Positive experience: Found a game I was looking for! Staff cooperates very good. Lots of great games. Just leaving a three star review because I wasn't handed the game very well. Seems like it was thrown at my hand instead of being handed to me. Other than that. It's a cool store! Would recommend to anyone looking for rare games.

Fantastic experience: Helpful staff and great selection of used games

CoolRegularGuy Posted on Google 5 months ago

Negative experience: Really cool store with an amazing selection. But as I was checking out, the clerk quickly looked up the price again online for an item I was buying and raised the price. I asked what gives? “Well this is how much the market price is” Really turned me off and I haven’t been back since. Shame.

Kyle Starchyld Posted on Google 6 months ago

Negative experience: This place is terrible the customer service is lacking to say the least. There quoted me less then 20 % on what they would sell it at absolute trash business I would recommend you stay far away from this overpriced crap shack buy low sell extremely high. They act like your time isn't valuable and there time is irreplaceable.

Fantastic experience: I messed up a dvd trying the toothpaste trick; it was unreadable, but for $3, they were able to remove the scratches and it plays new again!

Fantastic experience: VGW has an incredible selection of retro games with unbeatable pricing. Always finding good deals, the manager is very personable and brings with him a super cute shop dog, Teysa. They are one of the only stores that still offers cash for trades every day of the week. I love the showcases filled with top franchises like Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon. On top of game consoles and systems from Atari to PS5 and Switch 2, they also carry, imports, collectables, statues, amiibo, anime, board games, strategy guides, blu-ray and more. This shop is packed to the brim with nostalgia while maintaining a homey mom and pop shop vibe. There's always good music or entertaining videos on in the background and it's easy to strike up a fun conversation with the staff or other people shopping. It's a very supportive, inclusive and queer friendly space which I really appreciate. It's also the longest running game store in Portland with a store on Foster Rd since 1991. Still owned by Nick and Lacey with another store out in Molalla. Don't miss out, if you're in town be sure to visit, and if you're local... support your local small business! I'll see you there :)

Fantastic experience: Great store with a huge selection of vintage or retro games as well as new stuff. Friendly and helpful too. What's even better is there 2 stores to choose from so if you cant find what your after at one its not too long a drive to the other. I always walk out with something new!

Fatty Jay Posted on Google 9 months ago

Fantastic experience: Awesome collection, friendly staff, totally reasonable pricing. They had several rare games I've never even seen before in person. Will definitely come back next time I'm in town!

Lina Hernández Valencia Posted on Google 10 months ago

Negative experience: We came a long way to the store, in google it says they close at 8 pm and it was 6 pm and the person at the store say they were already closed so we travel all this way for nothing

Jairo Sanchez Posted on Google 10 months ago

Fantastic experience: An awesome location with a multitude of games from all consoles ranging from old school Nintendo to the newest consoles on the market. I've been looking for the Guitar Hero Drum Kit for the 360 for over 3ish years now all across the state of CA, including LA and Orange County and I was fortunate enough to stumble upon this controller in at Video Game Wizards out in Portland, OR on a small little road trip. VGW will be a place I stop at every time I am out in that part of the PNW!

Fantastic experience: On a mighty quest in search of retro treasure. My lovely maiden and I came across this shop after traveling a great distance. We were greeted with smiles and merriment. Walking in to find a variety of wares I found exactly what I was looking for. 20/10 highly recommend

Stephen Henley Posted on Google 10 months ago

Positive experience: It's okay. It's really hard to get out of the store without rubbing elbows with multiple people. "Excuse me, pardon me..." They decided to put the register right in front of the (only) door. People pile up waiting to get in/get out/make purchases/ask questions/talk about "the Henry Rollins concert".... It's enough to make a feng shui Master throw a turtle. On the plus side... They ARE a local store with physical copies of games you love and retro games you love to re-live. There's not many of those left now. So, weary travelers they DO indeed have goods if you..have coin. Good luck, shopper.

Heather Williams Posted on Google 10 months ago

Negative experience: We drove across town specifically to come to the shop and ask them for some help. they were incredibly rude and dismissive. It felt like they were bothered by our presence honestly, I’m glad they behaved this way before we ever gave them any money. We drove to a game store on Hawthorne afterwards where they were very kind and helpful and we walked out with exactly what we needed.

George Gonzalez Posted on Google 10 months ago

Fantastic experience: Very helpful and friendly staff; especially the dog . They have everything from AtarI to PS5, and lots of game related chotskies you'll be sure to love.

Brandy Clem Posted on Google 11 months ago

Fantastic experience: Sure awesome place to buy games! $ 10-50 depending on console Atari, Nintendo, Super NES, GameCube, Xbox, PlayStation 1,2,3,4,5! 2ds,3ds,gameboy, etc. And Movies Blu-ray and they can resurface disks for 3 bucks! They buy games for 6 dollars each.

Travis Maahs Posted on Google 11 months ago

Fantastic experience: Great store with a solid inventory. From games, accessories, systems, physical guides and random gems this store is eye widening once you walk through the door. Huge shout outs to Will and Matney. From a random stranger visiting from out of state this store staff was super friendly and they made the experience comfier than a hammock with hot cocoa and S’mores. GREAT STORE YOU HAVE TO CHECK IT OUT!!!!

jhallak47 Posted on Google 11 months ago

Negative experience: The young guy running the floor at the Portland location is consistently rude and condescending. They held an item for me once only to raise the price when I arrived vs what they said on the phone- I was told “I would have to pay for shipping if I got the items off eBay so they factored that into the price” despite being told a much lower price before driving 45 minutes each way. The store is also a mess with most of the items somehow in rough shape. The Molala location is much better in ever regard.

heh Posted on Google 11 months ago

Negative experience: Unless you have rare stuff don't bother coming here to sell things off. Great if you got nothing but time and money. Money in a crunch or trying to recoupe expenses from gaming? Not really. Avoid if you want a quick and concise experience.

Grace Vox Posted on Google 11 months ago

Fantastic experience: Hardcore fans rejoice! Casual gamers make yourself comfy! Boasting a fantastic selection of DVD/BRay on top of this literal multigenerational library juggernaut of gaming passion, VGW brings the XP to the needy with hi-resolution. If you're looking to level up you have unlocked the solution!

Fantastic experience: They didn't have what we came for but had a great experience looking for it. Staff were great , the shop fag was friendly. Overall great place

Sean P Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Treasure trove, Chris is amazing, prices are fair. If you’re looking for something, they have it.

Robert Spears Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: I never leave reviews, BUT- VGW is hella cool and deserves it. My Nintendo Switch battery wasn’t holding a charge anymore and their price for replacement was super fair. They quoted me about a three week turnaround time; explained they had quite a backlog of repairs to work on. They got it back to me in A WEEK. Absolute champs. Back to my Subnautica binge. They’re also stocked with awesome retro gaming stuff at a price that won’t give you sticker shock.

Fantastic experience: The customer service at Video Game Wizards is top notch! Will helped me, and was knowledgable, and especially friendly. The store was busy and Will took care of everyone.

Drake Lorenzen-Romero Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: VGW is the best! The other day I called to see if I could get a faulty PS Vita screen replaced, and they had me in and back out with a brand new working screen within the hour! Matney worked quickly and diligently on my vita while juggling a large flow of customers, and provided excellent service to anyone in need of help, as well as giving me consistent updates while I waited. Not only do they have great service, but the collection can't be beat. Whether it's games, consoles, controllers, figurines, cards, books, comics, or whatever random product that was released for the Xbox 15 years ago, videogame wizards probably has it. If you live in Portland and like games COME HERE.

Cryschelle Jeffery Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Found this place almost by accident while visiting Portland and I'm so glad I decided to go in. The sheer amount of inventory is staggering and it's just as shocking how well organized everything is. Inventory is digitized so they were able to let me know they didn't have the game I was looking for instead of having to dig through their multiple boxes of DS games for an hour -- which is fun in its own right but if you're short on time or looking for something very specific it's nice to be able to just check. They have lots of amiibos and old game guides as well if that's your poison. Prices seem reasonable just based on some price comparisons I did on a few items I was interested in. Staff were all friendly and helpful and I didn't have to wait long to have questions answered or to check out even though they were pretty busy.

Michael Cooper (mythmon) Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: They've got a huge selection of games, hardware and all sorts of other video game stuff, both for sale and to trade in. The staff is friendly and helpful. Worth it just for a trip down memory lane!

Fantastic experience: Great people working here. Met one of the owners who was super kind. I needed an original snes adapter and they hooked me up. Come check this spot out!

Greg THOMAS Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Amazing and helpful my son broke the controller on his switch and Matney and his adorable dog helped me me fix it at no cost.

Fantastic experience: Hands down the best place to sell your old vintage games, game consoles!! Very respectful and straightforward I will definitely be coming back to sell or trade my games! Thank you so much video game wizards! You guys rock & keep up the good work guys

Fantastic experience: I love how they have many different varieties of games, consoles, and game merch. And they have fair prices.

Melina Sapp Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Super friendly and were willing to check inventory and hold something for me to pick up later. When I arrived they had it ready for me and were very nice. Great selection of a little bit of everything from new to classic, and reasonable prices too. Parking was a little tricky but not too far away

Jordan Devore Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Highly recommended among PDX area retro game stores. Fantastic collection across generations, reasonable trade-in prices, and patient staff. Super fun place to browse—and it feels great to shop local, too.

R Schultz Posted on Google 1 year ago

Positive experience: Huge selection Crap staff! Sooo slowww! What happened to the amazing little locally owned and operated store? Such great selection and reasonable pricing but such a crap staff!! It makes me sad to offer this review.

Fantastic experience: We was there in mid-90's ..met me future wife as we both was crazy bout Mortal Kombat...but do recall Rick always talking to me...never forget him...Back home in Scotland...but had to drop on here to see how Wizards is doing ❤️❤️❤️

Alex Mendez Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: This is my favorite videogame store in all of Portland and it's been that way since the 2010's when this was located next to the 7/11. This store is cramped and messy at times, BUT this just leads to a gigantic collection of videogames at very reasonable prices. I lowkey miss when the store would just have piles of games stacked on the floor and the only way to find hidden gems was to dig through those piles and read each title before finally discovering your personal holy grail. I don't need to recommend this place to collectors because I'm 100% certain every retro gaming collector has visited this place at least once to buy or trade a game here. Thank you VGW for everything you've done for Portland's retro gaming scene. Y'all are the best.

Fantastic experience: I have been going to Videogame Wizards since I was a kid when it was next to a 711. So glad it still exists. Fav game store ever.

Rosalind Hartmann Posted on Google 1 year ago

Positive experience: Decent place, lots of inventory in a smallish space. A shop dog was promised by the sign on the door but atlas, I did not see one.

Life With Us Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: This is the best place to get new and used video games, consoles and accessories. Do you need Breath of The Wild? They have it. What about a Skylanders Swap Force figurine? It’s in stock. How about a copy of Coraline for Nintendo DS? You betcha. Seriously, if you want it they likely have it. Support a local business AND get it today without waiting on Amazon.

Pahulu Uhane Posted on Google 1 year ago

Positive experience: I got a game system and some games and amiibos. Games worked fine, amiibos were good. We literally never took the system out of its bag. Since we weren’t using it we took it back. I wasn’t expecting a refund or even a lot of money but they refused saying it didn’t work. Which meant they sold us a broken system. Whatever I’ll go somewhere else from now on.

Heather Mougeot Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Started visiting here when they were still located next to the Foster Rd 7-11 on the eastside of I-205; not as fond of this location but still the best for used viseo games, movies, etc. Plentiful, often updated inventory to choose from for all gaming systems new and older; trade in credit and prices on stock is more than fair; and customer service is always above and beyond. Very helpful, welcoming, and honest

Justice Tran Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: The store has a big collection of games! I got a 2DS which is in pretty good condition. I will go back here someday. I liked the store managers dog!!

Andrew McClung Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: A great shop with a great selection! Just did a big trade with VGW and they gave me a much better offer than the other shop I checked out first. Highly recommend VGW.

AndSoven2 Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: For those who love's video games no matter what era. This is your place to go. It's like heaven of video games, but the price may vary because it is more retro and some can be a good price and some can be in the expensive side watch out for your wallet it might cry lol. I highly recommend this place.

Fantastic experience: Awesome customer service, friendly staff, me and my girlfriend went in bought some games and good selection as well.

Pæeeebus Catz Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Nice people, fair prices for games and consoles, trans/ queer friendly (bonus points). Worth a stop if you're in the area or looking to sell used gaming supplies.

Ellie C. Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: I went into VGW to sell my collection of assorted video game consoles / controllers / games and was very pleased that I was able to sell 90% of the stuff I brought in. They gave me a good offer for my items and were kind, very knowledgeable, and were able to do my transaction pretty quickly - considering it was near the end of their work day. All in all it was a pleasant selling experience! I recommend for any / all gaming needs - these guys know what's up!

Sarah Hinkle (Seroplane) Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: This is a little gem on SE Foster rd. The gentleman working was MORE than helpful and very fun to talk to! They had exactly what I was looking for, and then some. Amazing selection of new(ish) and vintage games, toys, all the fun stuff. Can't wait to go browse some more!

DJ Mandi Mouse Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: These are hands down the greatest prices for used video games. Amazing selection and organization I cannot wait to come back!

Dale Meece Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: First visit today. Finally a true retro video game store. Not one of those stores that uses 50%+ of their space for card/board games. This is the place to be, the amount of retro games they have is astounding. I honestly don't know how they fit so much into this store.

Allan Moore Posted on Google 2 years ago

Positive experience: They have a very wide selection of games, which is great. The prices are also fair and reasonable. The service often leaves much to be desired. The couple of times I have visited it has taken over 15 minutes to check out with 2 people behind the counter. Other reviews have mentioned the cashier getting distracted, which is very true. I wish the service was as good as the selection here.

Tony Sylvia Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Love this place! They have all the games I loved, I still want, and the ones I didn't even know I wanted. They are fast, knowledgeable, and not in the least unfriendly. Highly recommend if you are in the market for used consoles or games.

Jesse Mercer Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: Great selection but of the 6 times I've been here, they haven't opened at their posted hours 2 of those times. 12:00PM shouldn't be a difficult time to be into work by. The cashier here seems to get distracted very easily and service can take way too long when there are more than 2 customers in the shop.

Craig Miller Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: They came in and opened up for me and my son. I highly recommend these guys because they are amazing and my son is so happy they buffed his extremely scratched game to a mirror finish. I will definitely be back due to the huge amount of used older games and consoles. I almost cried when I saw everything from my childhood under one roof.

JJ Purcell Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Best collection for 360 and PS2 games I can find, it's awesome that the clean games for uber inexpensive, and the ability to buy and sell loose games is always a plus.

Jeffrey Kuang Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: This will be a long review but I don't recommend for poor customer service and communication. They're super nice people but poorly organized. Don't get repairs done here. I went in with four ps3 controllers to be repaired. I had to wait an hour because they only had one staff working doing a trade and then they told me it seemed like it wasn't fixable which frustrated me as I wish they paused the trade and checked-in with me sooner. However, they still accepted to try to repair and reported that someone would contact me about updates. However, I never got a call from the store at all. I had to periodically call VGW for updates on the controllers on whether it'd be fixed, how many would be fixable, timeline to be fixed, etc. Then, when I call I get different information every time (the time it'll be ready for pick-up, the amount of controllers that are fixable, the cost). When it's finally ready for pick-up, I go to the store and they tell me straight up they LOST the controllers! Couldn't find it anywhere. They call the Molalla location to figure out where it is, they don't answer. They have me wait as they try to look and then I had to go back to work so I tell them to call me back and offer my phone number as they're like, "Oh your contact information is on the controllers so no need" but what if they don't find my order?! I wasn't leaving until I left my phone number for them to call me. They report they'd call me end of that day and they never did. A few days later, I call AGAIN because they never called me for updates or if they found it. Then they said it MAY be in a vehicle that goes between the two store locations and that they'd get back to me by end of day. Did they call me for an update? Of course not. I kept getting so confused each time I called them getting different updates over time (all 4 controllers are available for pickup, 2 controllers are actually available and the other 2 weren't, etc.) I had to call AGAIN and they said it was lost and that they'd offer me 4 OEM controllers for the original price that it'd cost to repair 2 controllers ($45) but I'm not comfortable with that as I feel like it's "Hey we lost your property, so to make up for it we're striking you a deal." I don't think that's justifiable for the amount of time wasted and poor communication and service. I eventually got to talking with the owner and they said they still had my two broken controllers at the Molalla location, and claimed that I had picked the 2 fixed controllers up on 12/26. At this point, I was so god damn confused I had to chuckle a bit. How would I be able to pick it up if I was never NOTIFIED that it was ready? I believe that they mixed it up and sold my controllers to someone else. They claimed someone picked it up under my name but when I asked for transaction information, none of the credit cards matched my personal cards, so this is what I think: They never contacted me that they were available since I had to CALL EACH TIME for updates. I think that they then thought that I wasn't picking it up and exceeded a certain amount of days where they feel the person wouldn't pick it up and decided to sell it as part of general inventory. If that really was the case, how was I supposed to know if they never contacted me that it's ready? So now they'll give me two refurbished OEM PS3 controllers (not originally mine) and my two broken ones for free. Was it worth wasting my time after all this time? No. Not even giving me cash/store credit for the value of 4 controllers would make me return. The owner kindly offered to drop them off at my home to make up for lost time, but enough time was wasted.

Justin Shinn Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Awesome store with pretty much anything vintage you're looking for. Awesome staff is super helpful, nice, and best of all, knowledgeable! There's a reason they're still around and Game Crazy is not. I visit the store every time I'm in town, regardless of if I'm looking for something specific or not.

Angelyka Cava Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: It was pretty much impossible for my partner and I to get any help from this place even when standing near the counter viewing the handheld games. We were there for about ten minutes staring at a DSI hoping for some help to view it. They'd spend too long helping specific people at the expense of other customers. The people inside aren't too friendly and the store itself isn't very nice looking or neatly organized compared to other retro game stores. I was wondering if others have had bad experiences here too and even one of my friends said he doesn't enjoy VGW very much due to bad service. Prices weren't that amazing. I'd highly recommend either Retro Shark Gaming, Retro Game Trader, or Side Quest for your gaming needs instead.

Eric Storm Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Very informative staff. They pretty much know everything about games, systems, and controllers. My only slight complaint is that the store is rather cluttered and things are a bit hard to find. That is to be expected though with a pre owned equipment store. And it means they have a very large selection. I would recommend. Especially if you are looking for hard to find games or older games and video game systems.

Jaime DeAnza Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: Used game stores are always hit and miss. From the presentation and associate interactions with would be customers. The store is a complete cluster, dirty and uncared for. The lack of organization makes browsing the selection a chore instead of a joy. The associates have a nerdier than thou attitude which is fairly expected when going into these type of places. However coupled with a condescending attitude about explanation of buyback prices as well as looking for any particular item to replace broken items that may be considered hard to find. I was really excited to take my son to such a place however the environment was not anything I would ever want to subject myself or my son to ever again. I appreciate the selection and the prices however I was able to find the items I needed/wanted online without the attitude.

Joel Rodriguez Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: My favorite place in the city and possibly the best place in the Portland area for your video game needs. I've bought and sold many games and am always met with good, friendly conversation from the people working there who really know the ins and outs of retro and modern games alike. Their selection is astounding, prices fair, and service is above and beyond.

Katie Morgan Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: The staff was extremely helpful and polite, fixed my bent joycon in under a minute, and didn't charge anything for it. Great store. 10/10.

John Cocks Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Awesome store. Good selection of games. Perfect place to fill in my needs for weird controllers or the like.

Isabel Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: Place is dingy and staff isn’t pleasant. They don’t seem to care about their customers. Just felt like I wasn’t welcomed in there. They don’t quality check their merchandise. Went with my partner a few times because it’s a convenient area. They sold us a fake game and 2 drifty controllers. They told us they quality check but someone clearly isn’t doing their job. They don’t accept refunds, only store credit which seems like a rip off. If you’re going to sell a low quality item you owe a refund- don’t want to spend any more money at a place like this. Don’t waste your time here there are other quality places in Portland to go that are friendly, and quality and genuinely seem to care.

Fantastic experience: Great retro video game shop, Packed with games for all the usual and some usual consoles. Listed at fair prices. Staff were knowledgeable, helpful.

Andrew Jaru Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: With such a modest storefront I didn't expect much but wow, they were stacked! Tons of Nintendo titles with entire boxes of mid and high tier titles. Easily spent an hour sorting through their inventory and they were really helpful in getting what I needed out where I could look through everything. Most of their games were in decent condition. Normally a couple scratched copies and one minty one. They had lots of consoles, too. Aside from the selection the prices were the next best part. They were near or below market price for a lot of their titles. Popular ones like Zelda and Pokemon carried a slight premium but their policies make those worth it. The staff were nice and patient, too. I'm definitely coming back and hopefully can make my way out to their other location sometime!

Shane Mellott Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Best Video Game Store in Portland hands down. The selection is absurd snd the prices are low. Also where else can you have a conversation about Jack Bauer from the show 24 with the nerdiest of the nerds at 3 in the afternoon. Nowhere that’s where!

Video Game Wizards VGW

Hey Shane! So glad you had quite the experience within our shop and hope to see you again. Thanks for the review!

Fantastic experience: This place is packed full of all kinds of mostly "retro" consoles and games. Trade-ins, console cleanings and fixes, great prices - you name it. Highly recommended.

Negative experience: I waited for the owner to assist me for literally 30 minutes, but he was too busy testing a console during peak hours. Here's a tip: don't schedule trade-ins during peak hours, or if you do at least communicate to your customers and apologize for wasting their time. Rude.

Fantastic experience: Definitely the place to go for all gaming needs. Great selection that caters to everyone especially those looking to get their nostalgia fix. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Bought a console here and the manager made sure to test it out in front of me and he buffed the game discs I bought as well. They have a solid return policy if things don’t work but everything I’ve bought here has been great.

Fantastic experience: UPDATE 2023: Still going strong and filled with more people who care about games and care about nerds. You will either find what you are looking for, or be given the chance to find it elsewhere in their other stores. Sent to this store so you don't have to trek. Love VGW. Settling into their new location after being ousted by Corporate Capitalism, Video Game Wizards are in a much better position than before. The mom-and-pop shop is spacious and easily maneuverable by able-bodied and those who utilize chairs or other systems to get around. The space is beautiful and I can't wait til they complete the finishing touches on it. They have wide selection of games from all major consoles from modern to vintage. You're bound to find something you don't have or reminds you of your younger gaming years. I only see further success for them in the future and highly recommend a visit or two, or three, or four.

Fantastic experience: After a handful of visits I can truly say I like this store, they are a great stop if you're in the area or if you're looking for something specific. The staff is always kind and willing to help, they ensure I understand the state of the product before I purchase it. I agree it can get a bit cramped in the store.... but doesn't it remind you of your childhood or corner game store from way back? Definitely had some memorable moments and met some cool people in this store :D

Fantastic experience: I've been visiting VGW since its last location, and I wanted to finally write a review for it because of how far it's come since then. It's now so well organized, and despite how many varying products they have, you can easily find what you're looking for and get a price right away. While I was there, it was packed with people, but Matney did a great job handling every customer's needs, answering phones and making sure everyone in the building was satisfied, including a mom and son who wanted to test a PS2 console before taking it home. He set it up for them and let him play the game for nearly 20min to make sure everything worked right. He also saw me waiting in the DS/3DS section and hurried over without me asking to pull out the loose 3DS games for me. That's something you only do if you genuinely care about your store and the people coming into it. I definitely recommend this location to anyone interested at all in videogames. It's a good place.

Positive experience: Solid nerd experience better than Comic-Con or visiting Boca Chica as a guest of Elon musk and witnessing starship launch on its orbital debut. Video game wizard has every game system you probably heard of and a lot of game systems you haven't and thousands and thousands of games as well as popular and hard to get accessories

Fantastic experience: Most Hillsboro, Beaverton, and Portland video game stores have been very disappointing, but this one actually does have fair prices. Most of the games hover pricecharting/eBay sold listings. Some lower, some higher, but at least near the values. I will note that some sections are very difficult to view (the more expensive Wii games), and the store is much bigger than how it looks outside. It was pretty overwhelming. Pros: huge selection, they note if games are missing manuals, fair pricing (or at least the fairest prices in Washington County), lots of strategy guides and a good handful of magazines Cons: as of 3/14/2023, a lot of their magazines and guides do not have prices listed. Can feel a little claustrophobic. Some collections behind the counter are hard to get a look at.

Fantastic experience: I have taken my daughter here three times and have always been extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I would go here before a meme stock store that does not know anything about the games or books or systems. Great place

Fantastic experience: Huge selection. Very friendly and knowledgeable employees. I overheard that they have new owners that have put in a lot of effort into the store. I bought an Xbox 360 game and they ran it through their disk cleaner complimentary with my purchase. Very much a store that cares about gaming.

Fantastic experience: Never been in here before, but heard good things and thought I'd check them out. I ended up buying more than I originally planned purely because of the wide selection and cheap prices. They outdo GameStop by a mile, I will definitely be returning

Fantastic experience: Best spot to find any video game known to man! The staff is super helpful and friendly. I have already told multiple people about this place while also dragging many friends along with me to find more video games!

Fantastic experience: Wow. They really took care of me here. I walked in with a tub of games to downsize, thinking I'd walk out with a handful of dollars. Store manager convinced me to let him itemize everything out. Well worth it! "You're going to be really glad you didn't take this to Goodwill." Excellent service, friendly conversation. Can't recommend enough!

Fantastic experience: Went in on Christmas Eve to buy a very specific game we could not get out of our heads, and an N64. The couple who owns the shop (I think they’re owners anyway!) were really lovely and helpful. The store is fantastic with a huge variety of games and consoles.

Negative experience: Wish I could review the store earnestly. I waited by the door until 15 minutes past when they were supposed to open and no one showed up. Bummer i was hoping to get Xmas presents. No time to wait around on my lunch hour.

Fantastic experience: Really cool store, they have almost everything for electronics, consoles, hand held gaming and even movie enjoyers, every time I have been here they have been super busy but are always super fast and super helpful, staff are always nice and can help with every question.

Fantastic experience: Really nice store! Great staff! Huge selection of games from almost every single console, aswell as excesseries and everything, and cheeper then ordering online!

Public Notice Posted on Google 3 years ago

Negative experience: An employee at the store introduced himself as a technician. Then asked me for the technical manual for repairing game systems... In the electronics field it's referred to as a schematic. Bottom line, they don't know what they're doing. I would not allow them to do any repairs on electronics. If it's been repaired by them, I would have it looked over by a real technician. Just because you have the ability to solder does not mean that you know how to repair electronics. I will not return. No electronics engineer ever would!

Negative experience: I was excited to see this store in Portland after visiting the Molala location. The online hours are from 12-6. I arrived at 12:30 and found two employees waiting outside for the owner. Not a big deal we came back later. The first thing i noticed when I walked in was how cramped and uncomfortable the store was. Not an ergonomic shopping experience. There were employees moving large racks and furniture around customers, I was trying to stay out of the way of an already cramped space. The best way to describe the place is cluttered. There were stacks of video games on top of large shelves. The counters were covered in games, boxes, and packaging. It looked like they just moved in and we’re unpacking during store hours. The piece de resistance. We we’re checking out for thirty minutes. Not waiting in like to check out. We we’re checking out for thirty entire minutes. The worker (tall, long tawny hair and glasses) was so slow and distracted. All of the games were looked up on price charting and eBay at the register. They had prices on their games but tried to change them without telling us after checking eBay and price charting. We purchased a game in box (rare and valuable for those that don’t know) and the worked dropped it three times. He kept making bad jokes and just overall being slow and distracted by the movie they had playing for patrons. Might I mention that this was happening with a line of at least seven people behind us. We thought that it must have just been that worker, but the person in front of us went to a different cashier and left only five minutes before us. I will say they took the time to buff the discs that were a bit scratched but that was after the 20 minute mark. I am not sure if this store is going through a tough time with management but this has been the worst experience at a game store; topping the usual unpleasantness at GameStop.
