Fantastic experience: Managed to pick up an Indigo GameCube with my fiancée from here after being helped greatly by the South Lamar store. Staff here are great and are enthusiastic about the product which helps. Love these stores.

Fantastic experience: We went in looking for a game boy color game and found what we were looking for. The staff was nice and helpful. Lots of selection, we stayed a bit and looked around as there is a lot of inventory to check out.

Negative experience: Edit to the response: When I called, the employee checked the computer to confirm you carry the item, and explicitly told me the system showed ZERO in stock. When I arrived 20 minutes later, he looked at the same computer, and suddenly the system showed FOUR in stock. Then he walked over to the case to point them out. Inventory systems don't magically find 4 items in 20 minutes. He saw you had 4 on the phone, lied and said you had 0 to get me to drive down, and then used the "surplus" excuse to lowball me once I was trapped in the store. That is not a mistake; that is a dishonest sales tactic. Original review: I called ahead to ask about trading in an mClassic adapter. The employee checked his system and explicitly told me they had ZERO in stock, so I drove all the way over. When I got there, he suddenly says they have FOUR of them sitting in the glass display case right in front of him, priced at $99 each. After he pointed it out he didn't even apologize for the lie over the phone, instead saying "I've never seen anyone buy them, so that's why". I mentioned I'm just looking for like $20, which itself is a ripoff. Instead, he used his own stock that suddenly exists against me, saying "Oh, looks like we have four, so that factors in," and offered me an insulting $10. You are selling these for $99 but offer $10? And you lie on the phone to bait customers into the store? If you want to rip people off, at least be honest about your inventory. Don't tell me you're out of stock just to waste my gas and time. Absolutely ridiculous.

Positive experience: Good but didnt have the games i was looking for

Fantastic experience: I absolutely love this place. Its like walking through time. Mini console museum, retro 8 bit music. Just so nostalgic. And the staff are always friendly and the place is always clean and organized.

Negative experience: I tried to sale some items to this location an they totally tried to rip me off so I took my items elsewhere…your really better off saleing your items yourself because what they give you compared to what they sale your items for is robbery

Negative experience: I've been to the south Lamar location. Very nice employees. Derek was here and I was asking about a video game I wanted to sell and he made an offer on it and I asked what percentage he was using and he said he didn't want to "fight" me and didn't want to look at the rest of my games. That was a very unfriendly experience. I wasn't there to haggle I just wanted an understanding of their methods before I bring my collections. I have a collection of games from various consoles dating back to NES and I just found it difficult to work with this organization. I won't be the last person to come in to sell stuff but that's not how you treat people.

Negative experience: Selection is okay. I’ve given this location two chances and the customer service is meh. The small brown dude (didn’t get his name) is always unpleasant and has awful customer service skills. Wouldn’t be surprised if people start drifting away. Disappointing. I wanted to like this place.

Fantastic experience: Great place to shop for any video game collector, friendly employees and tons of stuff to look at. Left with n64 007 goldeneye and a new n64 joystick replacement part. 10/10 would shop again.

Fantastic experience: This place is great. They sell video games and consoles going back to the beginning. I go for NES and Wii games but they have up to PS4 stuff. Update: they reorganized the store and its a lot better. Still same great stuff.

Negative experience: Service was good. Prices, not so much. Went to purchase Beavis and Butthead for the Gameboy for a friend. They were charging 60 DOLLARS for a game that is 42 DOLLARS on PriceCharting. What’s next, yall are gonna sell South Park: Snow Day for the Xbox for 40 dollars when PriceCharting says it’s EXACTLY 20 dollars? I was going to sell my xbox snow day game there too. But I don’t want people buying an undervalued game for over its value. I will be buying my friends Beavis and Butthead gameboy game from eBay. 2 stars due to good service.

Negative experience: Unbelievably overpriced. I'm talking double (and in one case, triple) the values of PriceCharting. Not sure why these guys charge Cali prices when the retro gaming scene has dried up in Austin, but here we are. Won't be shopping here again, unfortunately.

Positive experience: The Anderson Lane one often has the best collection of “last Gen games”, but their prices are “non-negotiable”…even if you show them their prices are too high compared to GameStop and eBay. I know they buy the games for Pennie’s on the dollar, so not sure why things are not negotiable. Just go when they offer a sell.

Fantastic experience: I was in the area for a few days from the East Coast and decided to check out some game shops in the area. Game Over on Anderson was the first one I went into and lost track of time!! I just kept going back and forth between the different Game Over locations. There is so much to choose from, the prices are unbeatable, the staff were amazing, and the sale was a great surprise, and there’s even a small museum in their main location! I wish I had places like this back home.

Fantastic experience: If I could live in this store, I might just do it. I love the place. From the classic video game soundtracks running in the background, to the huge selection of vintage games and consoles, it’s paradise for somebody like me who grew up on 8 bit and 16 bit gaming systems. they also buy your old stuff. I sold my PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii with a bunch of games and ended up with $150 in store credit to play with. Love it!

Positive experience: Not what I was hoping for. Sold an item and wasn't completely ok with the price but friendly service, clean and organized. It's a unique museum with older lost in time game consoles and games.

Positive experience: They boast an impressive variety of games and accessories, yet the downside is their less-than-competitive rates for new but 'used' games. Nevertheless, overall, it's a good spot for gaming needs with a diverse selection to choose from.

Fantastic experience: I am willing to change my mind and give credit where credit is due. I was originally frustrated with this store due to, in my encounters at least, the fact that they rarely had cash on hand in the past whenever I would attempt and sell games. I have since changed my mind after the owner personally reached out to me through email and we had a meeting of the minds. That kind of personal attention does not go unnoticed or unappreciated on my end David! I am now a regular customer at the Anderson Lane location and since Derek is the only staff member I know by name there, I will shout him out. Derek is a very competent manager and extremely knowledgeable about retro gaming and I have also seen first hand his ability to multitask a very busy store. Game Over is one of Austin's own. It started here and, while it is not a perfect business in my opinion, (and truly, what is?), it is far greater than the other options that we have available. I'm looking at you Happier Times lol...more like Bummer Times. So I am here to revise an old poor review and give David and Derek a very sincere thumbs up! Please keep up the good work! Me and my beloved city need you!

Fantastic experience: They were really nice .my son wanted a ps4 controller so we stopped by 10 minutes before they closed the guy's there didn't mind at all they gave him the cord to charge for free had a great selection of old games and consoles.

Negative experience: I sold them 14 Xbox 360 games and only got $25

Positive experience: Do you buy NES and 64 games? or if they can be changed for ones from nintendo switch

Fantastic experience: Guy at the store was super chill and really nice to talk to. Was like talking to an old friend. He was really helpful too in my search for a copy of Final Fantasy on gameboy advance. Sadly wasn’t in store, but I’ll hold hope for it.

Negative experience: They sold me a 3ds xl and i expected it to work, but when i got home i plugged it in, only for either the battery to be unplugged or the charger to just not work. Please at least ask to turn them on if you shop at this store.

Positive experience: Friendly and helpful...just didn't have what I wanted

Fantastic experience: Great place for selling or buying older video games. I had a lot of Xbox 360 games that I didn't want so I took them in for some cash. I've also bought some SNES games from here that I used to have as a kid. My wife has brought in an entire N64 system that was turning off on her and they helped her figure out the problem and got it fixed! Awesome store, awesome staff and awesome games!

Fantastic experience: The store only has one employee working, which is normal, however we were skipped over at least 3 times even though all we wanted to do was buy a few games. The employee wasn’t unfriendly but he was far from helpful. Update: thanks to ownership for replying to my review and I've shopped at this location multiple times since and the service was excellent. Updating my review to reflect my latest experience.

Fantastic experience: This store and its staff are just great. Great selection and prices, and the staff are always willing to chat or even educate the customer about the myriad consoles. Derek in particular has helped me many times over the years. If you're a gamer don't sleep on this shop!

Fantastic experience: Game Over off Anderson has been my go to video game store for years now. I come in every now and then during my lunch and I always manage to find something that catches my eye. This Game Over location specifically is something special -- the welcoming atmosphere and service is consistently amazing. Big shoutouts to Derek and the team, he really knows his stuff and just seems to genuinely care about the customer experience. I'm moving outta Austin soon, but wanted to post this review to show my appreciation. Wishing yall nothing but continued success!

Positive experience: Was a little bit slow, I went in and bought a few games for my xbox 360, and I purchased MW3, but walked out with a scratched MW2 disk in the case. Line was slow even though there was only one person in front of me and 2 registers. Probably wont be going back for anything.

Positive experience: Great place to go if you're a buyer - do not by any means come here to sell. I had over 20 ps2 games, 2 consoles and 4 ps1 games. They have me $50 dollars for all of it. I took back some of the nicer games from my original sale, and they knocked it to $25. When I went to Ressurected Games, they gave me half of what it goes for in Amazon. Walked out with $106 for 6 games.

Fantastic experience: I have shopped and few locations of game over video games and don’t have a single complain and just have nice things to say. I was wanting to play old 360 games and bought a used 360 from them right before pandemic and never had any issues with the system. Bought few used games over the time and everything works perfect. Very friendly staff as well.

Positive experience: If you're ever looking for that one game that you haven't played since you were in third grade or a cord for a console that you happen to find in your attic, you can find anything here. They also have awesome stickers and up-to-date games as well. It's just a place that you need to go in real quick if you have a little bit and when I say a little bit I mean like a good 40 minutes to blow because on top of being a store they also have a little museum from the very first console to up-to-date consoles. So just go check it out

Fantastic experience: Visited today to get GameCube controllers. Great selection of retro games and peripherals from all systems. They even sell old broken systems so if you're missing a part for a system you're fixing, check them out. The staff is knowledgeable about the stuff they're selling and very friendly. Pro tip: the online website is separate from the physical locations. Check out the inventory. This is absolutely my new place to buy old stuff for my gaming hobby. Looking forward to coming back again and again.

Fantastic experience: My boyfriend and I bought an original NES from this location, but we were only able to get it to play one of my Nintendo games from youth. We brought the console back in as well as a couple of games that we were having trouble getting to connect, and Derek showed us the right way to clean my old cartridges and got our system back up and working in less than 30 minutes. I’m giving this location five stars for the amazing customer service. Thank you so much Derek!!

Fantastic experience: A really great store with staff that know their stuff. The always have a solid game selection and the employees can give you feedback on which games they've played and recommend. The prices are fair for items and there are a lot of hidden gems among the accessories and as/is section.

Negative experience: The employees are great, but they deserve better. The owner of the company doesn't care about the well-being of his employees. Sexism runs rampant, the games are overpriced, and there are other (better) retro video game stores to shop from. Save your money.

Fantastic experience: I’m so in love with this store and the staff is super friendly They fixed our gameboy, we bought an Atari, we come here at least once per month to get more video games!

Negative experience: Came in on 1/8/2021 around 1:30 and when I walked into the store I thought it was completely empty until I heard rustling in the far back. The only 2 employees present (Derek was one) and a younger guy didn't even seem to care someone entered the shop. The only reason I mention this is because I've been to the Lamar & Park North (SA) location and at each, the employees there seem ready to welcome you and help find items you're looking for. Felt like I was an inconvenience so I talked myself out of buying any products. Maybe the sales pressure of GameStop is why their employees try to engage customers, I would just prefer to spend money on local establishments. Safe to say I'll never return to this location, which is unfortunate because it has a bigger footprint than the other two I mentioned and a seemingly more robust product selection.

Negative experience: Ordered online what I received was a worthless piece of junk. Will never shop online with this store again. Customer service is not letting me exchange item or get store credit. They are basically stating my fault and that I should have shopped in store. Oh wait there is a pandemic right now and most of is are unable to shop in store. Buyer beware!

Negative experience: the store itself was nice and calm, however the young man working there was constantly misgendering me when I clearly had a pronoun mask on that said " He Him". he emphasized the word Ma'am during our conversation, making eye contact several times and definitely looking at my mask. not coming here again. I dont care if someone agrees with my identity, but you can literally have human decency to respect someone. if he didn't want to call me "Sir" he could have literally just not said sir or ma'am at all in the first place. be better.

Fantastic experience: The store manager Derek was an outstanding dude. Aside from helping me find what I need we had great conversations while I shopped around. Game Over Videogames is the top tier spot in the area for the retro and modern goodies.
