Chain retailer offering new & used video games, plus consoles, controllers & related gear.

Our comment from Padel.us about GameStop:

GameStop is known for its extensive collection of gaming products, including a huge selection of Funko Pop figures that collectors love. Customers have praised the store for its friendly and helpful staff, who go out of their way to assist, such as helping to locate items for customers and promptly handling transactions. Notably, many visitors have appreciated the smooth exchange process for pre-owned games and the overall pleasant shopping experiences they've had.

However, the store has faced criticism regarding product availability and a sometimes crowded atmosphere, especially after school. Customers have pointed out that the location may become busy with young shoppers, which can affect the overall shopping experience. Regardless, GameStop remains a go-to place for gamers looking for new and pre-owned products, and many customers continue to return for the impressive selection and the cheerful environment that invites gaming enthusiasts.

Fantastic experience: Huge funko pop selection.

Fantastic experience: Looked online for something that was available at the store. I broke my glasses prior and the employee searched the store for the item for me after I briefly explained this. I left one of my wireless headphones in the store and the employee that rang me up for my purchase came outside in the cold and brought me my headphones at the bus stop when I was completely oblivious to the fact I was going to leave it there. Great shopping trip.

Positive experience: Not enough products available. Too much kids inside after school. Crowded, these kids not buying anything.

Negative experience: Genuinely the most garbage customer service ever. I went to return my controller as it had stick drift so i could get a new one since it had coverage. They never attend their phone calls so i had to go in person and ask all the questions I would’ve preferred to ask in advance. Blonde dude attending me acted irritated the moment i started speaking to him. He then asked for ID but since i’m underage I only have a school ID and made a whole fuss about it needing to be a government ID for it to be viable. That wasn’t what bothered me however, because when i came back with a government ID, the dude didn’t even bother checking it, proving it absolutely useless. The best part about all of this is the fact that he gave me a used controller with stick drift. Luckily, i payed for the 20 dollar warranty on this used controller so i can go through this experience once again.

Negative experience: Demand you buy pro membership to buy items or use services that don’t require it. Horrible customer service and shady business practices. No wonder this company is going under.

Negative experience: Probally the rudest and unprofessional staff. The 2 dudes at around 10am seem they dont wanna be there! never again will i go there! i was neva asked if i need help or anything!!

Positive experience: The only thing that I can say is that the cashier was fast with my pre owned game exchange. That was the only good thing.

Positive experience: It's ok

Negative experience: If I could give zero stars I would. Your employees are refusing to sell items that they have in stock and then removing it off the website. I came all the way from New Jersey and saw the item in bulk myself. Please do better if you want to keep the chain open make sure your employees are making sales not denying them.

Mason Lee Posted on Google 4 months ago

Negative experience: The attitude of the staff here is absolutely disgusting. They carry smug, unpleasant looks on their faces, act like any question is a huge burden, and even when confronted, their response is a blatant 'so what?' attitude. Instead of wasting my time and money here, I went to Target and bought my PS5 Pro there. The GameStop that was once a hub for great customer experiences no longer exists.

Максим Сальков Posted on Google 4 months ago

Negative experience: Terrible service! You need to learn from Videogame New York or BOOKOFF New York how to sell games and interact with customers! The salespeople did everything they could to make sure I never wanted to return to this store.

Alejandro Castillo Posted on Google 4 months ago

Negative experience: Poor service from a rude employee who clearly doesn't want to be there. It’s no surprise that customers leave and offline sales drop because of such trashy staff.

Romes Silva Posted on Google 4 months ago

Negative experience: Terrible staff and customer service. I went 2 times and got service denied twice. They literally told me to go to the COMPETITION for a console trade in, which I ended up doing because they were to lazy to provide service. This store should be audited, it definitely tarnishes the company brand.

Diana Balashova Posted on Google 4 months ago

Negative experience: Horrible & disgusting customer service at 14th street union square location! First they never pick up their store phone if you have questions before coming in person, it really does not matter what time of the day you call, it’s on mute for them at all times. Then I came today to trade-in my play station controllers and was refused service because I didn’t have my foreign passport with me. I showed them my government issued ID which is valid even when you get a service from government. For your store employees, apparently, it didn’t work. Shame. Ridiculous performance! Hope I never have to buy from there again.

Negative experience: Went in today, trying to purchase a ps5. The Asian kid was trying to lie to me stating they only sale it with the insurance and with the renewal of the power up rewards. I said that’s a load of crap. You’re trying to lie and scam to hit your quota. I used to work for GameStop and we never lied to our customers. The company will go down hill if you have employees like this. Took my business to Best Buy and purchased it with everything because it wasn’t forced upon me. Long story short. I see why there’s a limited amount of stores now.

Richard Fiumano Posted on Google 4 months ago

Negative experience: The absolute worst GameStop i have ever visited. The employees are the absolute worst. Beyond nasty and aggravated to do their jobs. Not sure why almost everyone here is terrible but yeeeeesh. I think im done with this store.

Nelson Lantigua Posted on Google 5 months ago

Negative experience: They try to scam you into getting the protection forcefully. I went in there to buy a switch for my daughter and they wouldn’t sell me a switch without protection plan. It took me calling corporate for them to then sell it to me. Sell with integrity people

Negative experience: They don’t answer the phone. Unable to see which store is retro

Adam Modlin Posted on Google 5 months ago

Negative experience: Check your receipt thoroughly if you shop here. My price for a used game was higher than expected and the cashier told me it was because of the tax. Turns out he "gave" me an extended warranty, and when I asked him about it he tried not to refund it, saying it was standard with every used game. Only when I continued to question him did he take the charge off

TJW Posted on Google 5 months ago

Negative experience: The staff at the GameStop near Union Square consistently display some of the poorest customer service I have encountered in any retail environment. I have visited many other GameStop locations where employees were professional, courteous, and genuinely helpful. However, after approximately five visits to this particular store, the experience has been consistently disappointing. With the exception of one associate named Montante—who, about six months ago, provided excellent assistance in helping me choose games—the service at this location has been subpar. The manager, along with a tall blond employee who appears disheveled, unhoused and exhibits poor customer service skills, have repeatedly shown a lack of professionalism. On several occasions, I have seen them fail to make eye contact with customers or engage meaningfully when asked about games or gaming systems. During my most recent visit, I asked about the price of a game that was placed on the pre-owned shelf. The employee told me the game cost $30. When I asked, “That’s the pre-owned price?” he responded that the game was new. When I then asked if a pre-owned copy was available, he replied sarcastically, “A pre-owned copy might not be the same price.” That, of course, was exactly why I was asking. This location would greatly benefit from a complete shift in staffing or management to ensure employees are willing and prepared to interact respectfully and effectively with customers. If such improvements cannot be made, it may be worth reconsidering whether this store should remain open.

Thenailroom Posted on Google 5 months ago

Negative experience: Honestly I hate to do this t GameStop because we gamers kept this place alive but honestly just seems like they're trying to compensate their loses by trying to force added price tags to purchasing consoles went to get the series x and they wanted to force a one yr warranty on the console nothing is going to happen to it in its first year so that added price was just silly to me then the required pro membership just doesn't seem worth it anymore went to Best buy and got what I was looking for... ‍♀️

Negative experience: Guy with glasses and long hair was so useless, it would've been more help if this place was closed.

Fantastic experience: Loved that spot! That location has always been MY GO-2-store. Its the store display, the warmth and vibe of staff in the store, the placement of games, statues, and goodies check it out you will not be disappointed. Below is a view of some of my collections and what i recently purchased.

Justin Liriano Posted on Google 6 months ago

Negative experience: for the last GameStop in Manhattan, their service is inadequate. I tried to call ahead about trading in my console, and the line just goes dead after you press 1 to speak with an associate. And after making the trip from uptown all the way down, I'm told that the trade in machine isn't out of service and constantly goes in and out. Given there aren't any other GameStop's in Manhattan to my knowledge, this is terrible service and GameStop, as a company, clearly doesn't see effort in trying to make one of their last flagship stores even a halfway decent experience

Reyhan Mohammed Posted on Google 6 months ago

Negative experience: avoid this location if you can! every time I go this location there's a new rule or restriction. no trading in retro content, no trading in slower moving games (even if its eligible on the site) no asking for inventory, no asking to check other locations inventory, no asking for cases for games that are on the shelf that you are buying. others have mentioned mr ponytail, and its always unfortunate to see him still working there. strongly suggest you go to the 125th location (a 20 minute train ride uptown) or the Graham Avenue one in Brooklyn (also about a 20 minute ride) Very rude, he shows up only to argue with customers! Does not live up to the "flagship" title at all. Very sad to see!

Matthew Mayor Posted on Google 6 months ago

Negative experience: I went to this GameStop to buy a game on release day. After waiting on an incredibly slow-moving checkout line, they told me if I didn't have a pre-order, that I could only buy it by signing up for their paid Pro membership. Ended up leaving without buying anything. I'm sure the checkout line was so slow because every customer is subject to these Pro membership hostage negotiations. I think supporting brick & mortar businesses is important, but with options like this, I'm not surprised 99% of people do their shopping on Amazon instead.

Will-e Hawk Posted on Google 7 months ago

Negative experience: DO NOT go to this Gamestop! I waited damn near for an hour with rude as HELL people behind the desk working there. I see why Gamestop is going out of business. There's an employee here name Alex K. Dude seemed odd the way he was handling customer service and not in a good way. There was a game shown available and he didn't even check and said it was sold out. Yeah I won't be coming here anymore!

Negative experience: Y’all never pick up the phone- why?

Wayne Madden Posted on Google 7 months ago

Positive experience: Visited in March, was my first time in an American GameStop. I was surprised that there was perhaps more selection and products than I’d expected; though the staff themselves didn’t seem to care and openly seemed to be just going through the motions. Despite telling the clerk I was vacationing from England he still tried to insist on selling me insurance for a game. I did manage to purchase some brand new trading cards through from NXT which had presumably gone unsold since 2022.

Negative experience: Never pre order for bonus items from this store. I was told the steelbook for silent hill f would be "first come first serve", to arrive at opening, and that there would be no early releases. Luckily I work right next door so walked over for opening. I was one of the five people in line that watched the lights turn on and doors open at 10 AM. We walked in and the worker proceeded to tell us they only have two steelbooks. Hundreds of copies of Silent Hill f but only two steelbooks. The cashier was not helpful, told us they would not receive more steelbooks and merely kept affirming they only got two steelbooks in the entire shipment and did not give out copies early. I only pre ordered here for the steelbook. Spend your money at the Best Buy up the block.

David Peer Posted on Google 7 months ago

Negative experience: I'm sure the store itself is fine, but goodness, I've been calling for an hour and a 1/2 and no one will answer the damn phone!!!! 9/25/25: still haven’t fixed the goddamn phones!!!! There is no way to get a hold of this store. Walked 16 blocks for no reason.

Negative experience: horrible experience (second time writing a negative review about a gamestop in nyc) blatantly withholding information from customers. nasty nasty nasty attitudes. wanted to give gamestop another chance after consistently making mistakes with zero customer service... but here we go again. SHOP ANYWHERE ELSE FOR GAMES.

Hlwanm T Posted on Google 7 months ago

Negative experience: Not the best experience here. They put warranty on your pre owned game transactions. Pay attention when they are checking you out. When you tell them i don’t want warranty on the game they give you attitude.

Negative experience: Go when that miserable supervisor with the ponytail isn't there. Way better experience if that dude isn't visible. Just a miserable bully that hates his job. Everyone else is pretty chill tho. Trade in machine breaks too much and they RARELY answer the phone. For a "flagship" location idk whats so high-end about it besides the location. 2/5 customer service.

Leo Redko Posted on Google 8 months ago

Negative experience: Disgusting employee behavior and practices at this location...last time I checked preordering a game or product means you reserve the right to get said product the day of release and/or bonus for pre orders ...NOT HERE at gamestop. I Fully paid for the product months before by the way. Went to pick it up, day of release...went like so: ME: Hi, here to pick up my preorder. Employee: You have to come back tomorrow our system is down.. ME: Why was I not notified? I hurried here to get it the day of. Employee: We don't do that with notifications, but you can get it in the morning, probably.( so not even sure I can get it next day either) Me: I work, also this location isn't close to me... Employee: You can send someone else to pick it up for you.. So as you see this moron thought Gamestop screwing up meant I should go out of my way after paying as well. Not them compensating me for the inconvenience or offering anything at all.... Mind Blowingly the company is near collapse and only thing holding it together is the fact that it became a meme stock. Nevertheless they send out 10 emails for every order confirmation and 100 emails of advertising to offer trade ins for my belongings at 10% of its value. They couldn't send 1 email to say sorry we are having issues, here's a 5 dollar coupon for the inconvenience... I don't know what happened to gamestop over the years, I used to love shopping there because you can have an awesome conversation with people that have similar hobbies...now every employee is just disrespectful, never offering a solution that works, or just miserable like we forced them behind the counter.. Never again...I will even pay more elsewhere and gladly , or buy digital and shop elsewhere because Gamestop is dead to me and will actually be dead to the world and go the way of the dodo in a few years anyhow. You would think a failing company would hire and invest in training their talent....not start investing in bitcoin and trading cards.... Adding this few days afterwards, still never got my stuff and they screwed up my refund...and feel free to read the reviews before mine, same pattern of horrible customer service and handling errors they make in the worst way imaginable. Store needs to clean house or close.

Negative experience: So to buy a console you need a pro account there loses money when people walk in with cash and customers service suck that don't answer the phone

luis cortazar Posted on Google 8 months ago

Negative experience: System always goes down. Management at the store is rude and awful. Only one of two GameStop's in Manhattan, but the only one that's large enough to do launch events. Avoid if possible, the less you have to deal with the Manager's attitude the better.

Gene Pesola Posted on Google 8 months ago

Positive experience: Good service, staff was helpful in trade ins and buying.

Dnyceone Posted on Google 8 months ago

Negative experience: I had an extremely disappointing experience at this GameStop. I asked about a preorder for a game that was advertised to include a steelbook. The employee (who said he was the manager) told me he never heard of a steelbook version, and when I asked if preordering there would secure one for release day, he said “probably not” and that I’d most likely just get the standard edition. It was clear he had no knowledge about the product, offered no real assistance, and wasted my time with vague and unhelpful answers. Management should be better informed and able to communicate clearly with customers. This location really needs either new leadership or serious retraining, because right now the customer service is unacceptable.

Raymond Lirtsman Posted on Google 8 months ago

Negative experience: Manager Jenny denied me purchasing a sealed pokemon product because she claimed this store location is a flagship store and requires a Pro membership. Absolute nonsense, I will be filling a complaint to the better business bureau and letting Pokemon Company International know. Officer jenny acting like shes the gatekeeper of already over MSRP items to upsell a BS $25 pro membership I don't want. Absolutely ridiculous that this store operates with shady business practices while other stores do the right thing.

Brian Vazquez Posted on Google 8 months ago

Negative experience: So I try to purchase a pokemon sealed product, and they wouldn't sell it to me because I didn't have a pro membership. I called gamestop hq and was told there is no such policy. I went back and had somebody on the line hear the employee there and once again confirmed that a pro membership is not require to buy the item. The manager was "occupied" but I was able to purchase it. What if a child wanted to purchase? Would he need a pro membership. Plus there was no advertisement whatsoever indicating this. I hope this stops befoe the FTC gets involved...

Alveration LoLo Posted on Google 9 months ago

Negative experience: Was denied a purchase of a Vstar Booster box because the employee advised I needed to be a “Pro” member because they are a high foot traffic area and they were combatting scalpers. What you’re doing is just pissing off everyone. This booster is already marked up like you all advised you were doing, but then to say you want people to buy your Pro BS membership on top of that is hilarious when you are in fact price scalping. Pretty bad, either way got some Black/White ETBs from some great TCG stores that are also in the area, just look up these shops instead of coming to this mess. Stay strong collectors.

B Coyle Posted on Google 9 months ago

Negative experience: Went to buy a controller - employee talked about how they have stick drift options that they’ll replace. I said ok cool, Nintendo will also replace them. He said yeah but you have to wait for the repair. Ok. Rung me up, I paid. See the receipt and he added a $20 warranty. I asked for him to refund me and he said no refunds on warranties. Really terrible tactics. Be careful

Jae Lee Posted on Google 9 months ago

Negative experience: Went in for a Switch 2, they force you to get a GameStop Pro membership just to buy the console. They promised that the membership will be free. Then I look at the receipt closer and it turns out they lied and charged me $25 for the membership. I reached out to GameStop Support and they confirmed this is NOT a real policy. Thankfully I will be getting a refund for the membership. The employees here are deceptive and scummy for doing this. Shoutout to cashier Jordan for pulling this scam!

Alejandro Garcia V Posted on Google 9 months ago

Negative experience: Awful experience. I’ve bought games and items in different stores all over the country, but this was the first time I was told I had to pay a 15-dollar subscription to be able to buy a 70-dollar game. The completely unhelpful and unfriendly girl at the counter did not offer any other option. I just walked two more blocks and got it at Best Buy. With options like Amazon, these stores should work hard on customer service.

Negative experience: I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I had one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever encountered. From the moment I walked in, I was treated like I was trying to get something for free instead of being a paying customer. One of the staff members, tall and large, possibly the manager or owner, was especially rude and unpleasant. His attitude was nasty and completely unprofessional. I honestly don’t understand how someone like that is allowed to work in customer service. I won’t be coming back.

Negative experience: What a scam! Went in for the Switch 2, had to pay a mandatory $15 for a gamestop pro account just because I’m getting the switch 2. Then the salesman charged me a $52 one year warranty without even asking me about it!! I asked for the policy and of course there was none :) way to go, greedy gamestop!

Lucas Rotondo Posted on Google 11 months ago

Negative experience: Really shady store. Forced me to bundle unwanted accessories (warranty, screen protector, Pro membership) with my Switch 2 preorder. Refused to remove those accessories from my order when picking up my preorder. Refused to honor trade in offer on Switch 1. I wouldn’t recommend buying a console here. They use deceptive sales tactics to upsell and increase their attachment rates.

Negative experience: Scummy sales tactics!! I went to this GameStop in early February to buy a Modretro Chromatic and some games. While ringing me up I noticed they added a console warranty without informing me. I told them I do not need a warranty and to please take off the charge. They lied and said it’s mandatory to sell the system with a warranty. I told them that is not true, they do not have any written policy on this in the store or online, nor have other GameStops I’ve frequented in the past state warranty is mandatory to purchase an item. They stated they cannot sell to me if I do not accept the warranty charge - which is insane! I left the store and the next day went to the GameStop in Roosevelt Field Mall which, guess what, SOLD ME THE SYSTEM WITHOUT A MANDATORY WARRANTY!! This location pushes scummy sales tactics onto its customers. Do not support these practices - never purchase anything from this location. ZERO STARS!

Negative experience: Went into trade my iphone today and went to check out and receive cash. Jordan the guy checking me out went into a long speech about applying for pro. I said no cause i dont buy games at gamestop i have a PC. He literally goes into a huge shpeal about how good it is and hes “just gonna apply it” i said no again. To which he then goes “oh well look you qualify for free pro for a year” so i waived it off. I then see a 25$ charge on my trade in. I ask what it is he says its “how the system rings it up because its cash” which i found extremely weird as this NEVER happened before once it rings on register thats the price you get in cash ive done it countless times. Here we are about a hour after the transaction and i decided to call customer support and get to the bottom of this. TURNS OUT JORDAN LIED and this was his sneaky way of forcing me to get pro and CHARGING ME to boost his stores sales. Well jordan expect me at your store tomorrow morning reporting you to your manager and making another report on both of you to corporate on TOP of the report i made today after hearing you lied to my face.

Negative experience: Not really happy with this location, just went in to look around store is ok decided to buy a switch game and was being runged up and noticed the employee trying to put a sneaky addition of $4 for a warranty that I didn't ask for. Luckily I am not a tourist so I advise anyone who shop at GameStop to be careful with their purchase and understand what is being runged up before tapping your phone/ card or paying cash.... Definitely illegal and shady practice they are doing just to meet their quota.

Negative experience: Today on Dec 9th I went inside and saw that the Charizard ex Super Premium Collection was marked at $59.99 so I decided to wait in line for half an hour only for the dude to ring it up for $79.99. I asked why it was $20 more when the price tag clearly said $59.99 and he said that it was the old black friday price. First off, how the hell was I supposed to know that?! Second, if it was the old price then why are you still advertising it on the shelf?! I essentially wasted time for absolutely nothing, gamestop should be ashamed.

Fantastic experience: Nice selection of funko collectibles and games

Negative experience: They’re simply closed, no sign or anything. Been like that for days.

Negative experience: Terrible Gamestop with horrible customer service. Waited in line for 30-40 min to trade in my old PS5 just for them to tell me the controller was "too dirty." I take very good care of my electronics so there was no discernable grime/dirt/or anything. Basically like new. They said I could pay a $100 "refurbishing" fee or buy a whole new controller from them... a total joke and felt extremely predatory not to mention a massive waste of my time. Other customers in line also had similar issues with the store manager being extremely unreasonable. One customer right behind me sat in line for 30+ minutes to buy a game they didn't actually have so left frustrated as well. How can it even be on the shelf if you don't have it? Overall experience was very poor and the manager seemed extremely shady. I would stay far away.

Negative experience: Just simply don’t use this location, I placed an online order that is in stock at this location to pick up, it took a miserable 36+ hours for it to be ready and when I got there, there is just a written sign on the door that said they are just closed for the day. I went back two days later after work on the last day they will hold my order, there is a sign that said they closed at 3pm on that day. None of these hour difference is anywhere online, so they just expect you to be there and get locked outside the store. Btw I was mad at the end and just decided to let them refund me for not picking it up and placed the exact same thing at a different location at 6:30pm, they sent me a ready email at 7:40pm that same night, just 20 minutes before they will close. So it is definitely the problem of this specific terrible location.

Negative experience: They don’t answer their phone. Been there twice this week at 6pm and they were closed (lying about their hours).

Positive experience: They have an excellent amount of Games and Gaming items in the store. The only thing that has to be worked on is: 1) Testing the gaming controllers 2) Testing the gaming consoles And 3) Test Games that were brought in for trade. This way you won't have people come back letting you know that the game doesn't work.

Fantastic experience: Fabulous experience with Mekhai and Alex. Both gentlemen were helpful, professional and knowledgeable- even kept the store open a few extra minutes while I shopped. The store is clean and the selection is great. Will be returning!

Fantastic experience: I went in here to trade in my old PS4 and games, and it was super smooth and pleasant, Mekai helped me and he is very patient and professional (took him ~30mins to go through verification and stuff, and explained to me the options). The store is well organized and the staff is friendly to every customer who stepped in.

Negative experience: If you're a male with a backpack on get ready to get stalked while browsing the store. I even heard the guy tell his coworker something about me trying to steal when I was looking at the t-shirts. Nothing worse than being viewed as a criminal for no reason.
