Matt's Games, Collectibles & More

Fantastic experience: Matt's is hands-down the best game store in Lexington. I've been gaming my entire life, and over the last few years I've gotten heavily into collecting. I'm hunting for everything from known classics to obscure titles across everything from NES to now. The toughest part is that collecting isn't nearly as fun as it used to be. Everything is online, two clicks away and twice the price that it should be. This place is out of the 90s, and the kind of place that got me into collecting and playing games outside of just new triple As. They have games for practically every system I care about (though that Saturn section could use some work), ridiculous merchandise I vaguely remember seeing in OPM or Nin. Power, and walls of accessories, from DC fishing rods to Cappy replicas, chainsaw controllers, and stuff I forgot existed. There's even a Japanese import end cap. They have a freakin Prima guide rack. The staff are great. They're happy to help you track something down, answer questions, or just talk games for a while - as Lavos intended. And Matt himself is awesome, dude helped get me back into Genesis - walked me through Retron options, and pointed me toward some genuinely great games to start with – I knew of Vectorman, but I didn’t KNOW Vectorman.. But now I do. CIP - Picked up Armored Core 2 because its rad, and old and AC was the first mech game Id ever played (PS.DEMODISC 1?), for 20 bucks.. ebay is averaging 70 - (thats fires of rubicon day one prices). Its really corny, but this place feels like how my town's old (and long gone) shop used to feel – a place where people wanted to hang out as much as they shopped. Go support local businesses like this one. Lexington is lucky to have it.

Fantastic experience: best game store in lex

Negative experience: The prices are pretty good and usually we have an enjoyable experience. The girl who’s usually working is super nice and helpful. However, we went today and the guy working was so rude. He didn’t seem to want to help, maybe it was getting in the way of his phone. He acted like it was an issue that I wanted to see the Lego minifigs.

Fantastic experience: Love Matts, stop in almost every trip I make to lex. Prices are good and there’s always a good selection across every generation of consoles.

Fantastic experience: My husband and I are repeat customers and games are always marked at a good price! Employees are always helpful. It’s difficult to find businesses who appreciate their customers like this business does! Unsure what other reviews are talking about but from all of our trips, all signage for pricing was clear and easy to understand. Also, the Funko Pops were priced based on what type of Funko Pops they were.

Negative experience: Had a really bad experience. Was gonna buy funko pops and the sign clearly stated it was $8 if unmarked and he said 2 that was ‘exclusive’ for $10 a piece. I don’t recommend getting anything there.

Negative experience: Don’t believe a word on any of the signs in this store. My child just spent an hour going through funko pops and picked out a bunch. We then get to the register and the price isn’t correct. Then he gets an attitude with my child and started yelling at her. Will never return here again.

Fantastic experience: Really good prices and range of retro game stuff in the neighborhood.

Positive experience: Came hoping to find a good selection of genesis/nes/snes/ps1/64.

Fantastic experience: Matt had everything we needed and was amazing! Honestly, some of the best customer service I’ve ever received and the store was very clean and organized. We came in looking for an old gaming system for our nephew for Christmas and Matt had exactly what we needed, and was so helpful and friendly the entire time. Great deals, great prices, and a great guy!

Negative experience: Quite literally the worst experience I've had in a game shop. For one, I walked around and there were literally roaches in the store. The games were unorganized and priced recklessly, multiples of the same game in the same condition were priced differently. The staff was dismissive and hardly attentive to their customers unless approached. I looked at some consoles in hopes to buy some as Christmas gifts and they looked as if they had hardly even been wiped down. Overall a terrible experience and I do not recommend, don't let the 'support a small business' fool you. It's wonderful to support them when they actually care about their business. If you're looking to buy, I'd highly suggest taking your business elsewhere, even to a game stop (which takes a lot for me to say).

Fantastic experience: Great shop that has a bit of everything. Made a date night even greater when my wife was able to add to her collection of pop figurines! We will definitely come back

I found mostly everything I am interested in. Like Sonic the Hedgehog, How to Train Your Dragon, Transformers, and Skylanders!! Ranging from games, figurines, and movies. This is the store for me! Fantastic experience: I am above and beyond satisfied with my purchase thanks to the topnotch customer service I received at Matt's. I came in basically lost looking for something I saw online. I was educated about why it wasn't sold in his store AND I left with an even better product. I purchased my first gaming system at 36! It meets all my needs for game selection, portability, effortless setup! I can travel with this, and it doesn't take up much space. I can have it in my hotel connected to the tv without the cord mess. Talk about a great sale! I also purchased everything I would need to support the system all in one place. This is a great place to get some real personalized experience and leave with a great product. The price was affordable as well. Thank you, Matt you are amazing, I love my new game!

Fantastic experience: If you're a fan of classic video games, then Retro Game Haven is a must-visit destination! This charming little store is a treasure trove of nostalgia, filled with everything from vintage consoles to rare game cartridges. As soon as you step inside, you're greeted by the warm ambiance of retro posters and the faint sound of 8-bit music, instantly transporting you back to your childhood.

Fantastic experience: I have been to just about every game store in the Lexington/Cincinnati/Columbus area (check my other reviews), but I have to honestly say that Matt's store may be the very best! We made a video game console purchase here and had an issue with the machine. Matt himself bent over backwards working with us and the manufacturer to get things properly resolved and to make us whole and satisfied. I can't recommend this store more highly! His prices and selection are solid too.

Negative experience: Everybody who works for the guy is cool but Matt himself is picky, cool with certain people and condescending and rude the the rest, to be honest the guy shouldn’t be in business for himself for very long, I have had 6+ people groups in his store talk about the negative behavior of the store owner.

Negative experience: They were great at first but the guy with long brown hair and thin was RUDE as hell to my husband who usually came in on the weekends. I don’t know if he was having a bad day or what but don’t bring that to work. As much as we love to support small local businesses, it’ll be a while before we return.

Fantastic experience: I had heard that Matt's was the best place in the area for getting good trade-in value on games. I had a few things to get rid of, so thought I'd give it a shot. I figured the reputation might be somewhat exaggerated, but it was worth finding out for myself. I was pleasantly surprised. I was given twice as much trade-in as the best offer I had gotten for the same games (at stores in other cities). I'll definitely be going back here when I have more to trade.

Fantastic experience: Owner is nice, store is just as awesome now as it was years ago. Great selection, great prices! Providing prizes for the local e-sports tournaments and just all around a good guy. Also a great place to find old Xbox games. If I was to give any criticism, it woulf just be to better organize certain types of products and place more consoles in a systems/hardware section. Absolutely no complaints.

Fantastic experience: I am the coach of E sports at Frederick Douglass high school and I needed help picking out games for a game night for my students to have fun and raise money. The store owner was so helpful and nice and gave donations for said game night without even being asked and also helped me make a great selection in games that kids would actually want to plactually want to play would recommend 10 stars if possible!

Positive experience: Very unenthusiastic employee at the front, and while the store had a few retro gaming items on display, the store was pretty empty, dark, and musty. Not a great experience.

Positive experience: If you are looking to sell vintage video games, don't waste your time bringing stuff in here. He claims to offer the best around, but the employee at the front desk offered us way less than half of what the games were worth on Ebay. We understand that they have to make money but seriously wasn't worth packing up and bringing in. We also called to find a time when Matt, the owner, was in store so we could get his offer and he was nowhere to be found. We've been here many times and enjoy buying their selection but not worth selling here.

Fantastic experience: We came across this place by accident on a recent trip to Lexington, and it will definitely be on our regular rotation of places to go when we're in town. The staff was extremely friendly and laid back, joking with my daughter and husband. They had a good collection of Funko pops, including some I hadn't seen for a while. We enjoyed stopping in!

Fantastic experience: Great store full of nostalgic games! There are Game Cube, Nintendo DS and 3DS, PlayStation and Xbox. AND there are a great amount of Funko Pop and Lego!
