Fantastic experience: Super awesome spot I decided to stop into while look for a game a couple weeks ago. I finally cancelled my game pass subscription after 7 years so have been building up my physical library mostly from the 6-9th generation and I was able to find a bunch of titles I’d been looking for over here. my favorite one I found was Wolverine uncaged for 360. Huge library of games from retro-modern with great prices and good deals on trade ins too! Think I’ve been back a couple times since first checking them out love the vibe of this spot!

Positive experience: If you're a nerd like I am about old/new tech and video games here you'll be like in heaven with cool books and stuff you wouldn't expect to find. Kinda don't like how small it is but other than that it's a pretty dope spot if you wanna find old games like psp

Fantastic experience: Gave me a good deal on a more rare Xbox 360 Cave set. Happy with my purchases. Very good selection of stuff, and fair prices for most items. Only downside is either someone or something smelled like pot. Then again, outside the shop did too so maybe it was smells from outside.

Positive experience: Fair prices but quality isn't ideal for some items. I asked to see a PS3 controller and received it dusty but when I asked for another, I was told "they're all dusty after we renovated". Took it home and controller's vibration is broken and analog sticks are loose.

Fantastic experience: Love this place! Pure nostalgia! They almost always have what I’m looking for and they are very fair on prices unlike a lot of other game stores I’ve been to. Great selection and great customer service! 10 out of 10

Fantastic experience: This place is hands down the best retro gaming store in the area! The sheer scope of what they offer (not just games, but anything retro. Need a comadore 64? A Trinitron CRT? They got you!) is just amazing! The whole place feels like an underground love letter to retro gaming. The selection is awesome, the people are friendly (and just as passionate as you are), and the prices are totally reasonable. This is my go to spot for anything retro gaming!

Negative experience: Customer service sucked bro, family member went to buy a 3ds didn’t know much of they sold her a 3ds instead of an xl FOR XL prices!!! Bro why convince someone to buy the older model and no refunds??? I’d like to return her mistake please reach me asap!

Negative experience: Unwelcoming place when I entered. Employees gathered around in front of the TV testing a video game which is on one of the paths around the store. Entire store and the layout is a fire hazard and the store has few narrow paths.

Fantastic experience: My partner and I love visiting local retro game shops anywhere we go. Gameshop Donwstairs has been on the checklist for awhile now! The first time we were in the area was a day they were closed. But this time we were finally able to make it! Many classic macs, Commodores, disk drives for classic PCs, and ataris. It was a very impressive stock! Looked around for a good while! Decor was great. Prices weren't terrible (with the retro boom prices are all over the place). The upper level was not to be looked over either! Will be back.

Fantastic experience: The best and biggest selection of retro video gaming gear I've seen recently in California. I enjoy finding shops with rare, retro, and modern video games wherever I go, and I have to say that this place has the biggest inventory and largest selection I've seen in the US. I can only remember seeing shops this well stocked in Japan. The staff is helpful and friendly and you can actually find some great deals in here. This is a must visit for video game fans.

Fantastic experience: Incredible shop, like stepping into a video game museum. They have everything gaming from the past 40-50 years. A great place to just browse and take it all in. Great staff, game experts and amazingly helpful.

Fantastic experience: This has to be one of the best game stores in the Bay Area! At ground floor, you’ll see a bunch of anime figures, but they have a basement where it’s a game store where you can find literally gaming consoles from all generations: PSP, PS2, Wii, Wii U, Original Xbox, etc. They even sell new games too! Not only they collect video game consoles but even very old iMacs as well as arcade machines. Literally this store has mostly products that you want! It’s like a museum here except that you can purchase any product here. Just make sure you ask the employees here to check if they have the products you want. I asked an employee to see if they stocked Wii Remotes somewhere, and he said that it’s behind the counter. So make sure you ask haha It’s not guaranteed that they have every product stored here. For instance, I tried looking for Timesplitters Future Perfect, but don’t have it. Also, most of the games I believe are cheaper since I looked at the prices.

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience shopping here. The staff is really friendly, the prices are competitive, the selection of games and collectables is amazing. Genuinely a fun time just browsing the shelves. I bought a used console and they hooked it up with OEM controllers, psu and cables. I don't live in this area otherwise I would be there every week

Negative experience: It’s a good place to buy video games, but definitely not a good place to sell games Their offer was so bad. It wasn’t even funny.

Fantastic experience: Got a perfect condition TV for a fair price! Also, a couple dozen vhs including some really choice features and Strider for my Genesis ⚔️ Unbelievably cool setup with all sorts of awesomeness displayed around like an accessible museum. This place is incredible!

Fantastic experience: A hidden gem for retro games! It's part of an electronics shop, which you enter first before going downstairs. They've got a huge selection and their prices are very competitive. The staff are all friendly, too. Not all of them are hobbyists but they can tell you all about their stock. The shelves are lined with everything from games to VHSs to toys to cards to gaming accessories. Their selection of console games is nearly 3x their handheld selection. It includes imports as well. Most of the notable Nintendo handheld games are by the front counter and are usually limited. Super high value items and collectibles are kept right by the entrance in tall cabinets. It's hard not to walk out with something here!

Negative experience: Not a very welcoming store. I was there for about 20 min and no staff asked me if I needed help. And very dismissive when I did ask for help. The pros , they do have a good collection of retro games and misc items/collectibles.

Positive experience: This place was neat. Good location, right near Civic Center. They have tons of cool stuff, but unfortunately none of the specific games I was looking for. Prices were above or around market.

I had browsed eBay and was looking for old favorites and was shocked to find how much some games go for, so I started looking for disc only listings on eBay. Gameshop still had better prices and had manuals and cases. Cool friendly people working there. Will have to go back to spend some more time in the shop. Looked like they sold CRTs and TV/VCR combos too. Rad!!

Good place to buy used games at a cheaper price or a good place to sell stuff! There's also an arcade machine here with a fun discount available if you win certain number of points. There's lots of consoles you can buy here so you can get everything you need in a single go

Fantastic experience: This place brings back memories of what it was like back in the day. When video games were a very big hit with so many titles to choose from. I bought a game boy color and some games from them. And the staff was dope and very chill. I love the diversity and the set up in this place,it is very cool. I recommend this place to anyone who is into gaming and comics or even anime.

Fantastic experience: GameStop downstairs is a great store for great retro game pick ups! They also have great customer service and they have the best retro stuff for sale!!! I recommend this store if you’re looking for old school games and Nintendo accessories. I travel almost two hours to go to this store and it’s worth it every time! Fantastic experience: This store took me by surprise. I live an hour away but was in the area and decided to swing inside. This store is simply incredible. There are tons of aisles filled with figures, cards, import games, all sorts of retro games, and tons of vhs and crt TVs. The selection is top notch for every system and whether you collect games, figures, or cards I can guarantee they have stuff you’re looking for. The owner(s) are super nice and after mentioning it was my first time in there we chatted for a little bit. Very humble and nice people in there. Positive experience: This place is amazing for anyone who is looking for retro games. The games were affordable as well as have a large selection of games to choose from. However, in my experience I went to buy wii and wii u games and and is soon as I left I had a very bad taste in my mouth idk what it was but I didnt like it. Overall this place is amazing and I would recommend this store.

Fantastic experience: Gameshop Downstairs has some of the most friendly and helpful staff I've seen in the retro video game and comic shop scene in San Jose. In addition to great staff, the store has a very good selection of foreign retro games, mainly from Japan. Long story short, since I'm continually looking for Nintendo Famicom accessories and games, I will recommend!

Fantastic experience: It was my first time here, the Staff were Soo friendly and accommodating, even though they didn't have any JAWS Merchandise I found a Babylon 5 figure I've been after for years and at a bargain price of $10 too, love this place and will be back many more times...

Fantastic experience: This is a really cool place with a variety of stuff, including harder to find games and cards. I come here once in a while for their disc resurfacing service and to trade in games that I come across (and usually leave with something I didn't plan on buying). One thing to note is that their trade in value for store credit is pretty insane, so it's worth bringing in games/cards. Their prices are very fair and sometimes dip lower than eBay, but usually stay around market value rather than overcharging like I'm used to seeing. Definitely check it out if you get the chance.

Fantastic experience: This was a super cool store. It has a lot of older consoles and accessories you don't typically find at a game store. They also have Japanese games and some fan translations. The prices were reasonable as well. Usually a shop with so many games and accessories is well above eBay prices. Everything we saw was at or below online prices. This is probably the best game store I have been to in the San Jose area.

Fantastic experience: Cool dudes and gal, place is like a nerd's heaven for anything old school, modern or just looking for collectables instead of Ebay fakes.

Positive experience: This place has a good selection, I'll give them that. I probably won't visit them very often for two key reasons. First, the place feels extremely dated and cluttered. Many of their items were actually quite dirty. A used game store that doesn't do a great job of cleaning their products isn't confidence inspiring. Secondly, I bought a game from them and before I bought it I asked if I could see the board and watch it boot since it was a decently expensive title. The staff did agree to those things but they seemed annoyed by the request and at first didn't even know if they had the tool to open the cart. It made me feel bad asking which isn't great for a used game store.
