Game X Change: Reviews
Negative experience: The store has a lot of variety in terms of what they sell. Friendly employees, they seem knowledgeable enough, and have games from many older systems like Nintendo 3DS, Gameboy, NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. Also they sell TV's, laptops, desktop PC's and the like. The reason for the low score is the absolute joke of an offer I received for a laptop I brought in to sell to them. It's a couple years old, but in perfect condition with an OLED 3.5k display, 16GB DDR5, 1TB NVME SSD and RTX 3050 TI GPU. Is it brand new? No. Is it worth more than the hilarious $75 they offered me for it? Yes. Yes it is. Given what they charge for games (I purchased a 3DS copy of Super Mario 2 for $20 earlier in the day before going back to try to sell the laptop), they must be paying people like $1-2 per game, then turning around and trying for 1000% profit. Predatory practices. If you want to buy games and movies, again, they have a decent selection. Just understand they completely ripped someone else off to sell it to you near retail prices. ---------------------------- Responding to the owner: Yes, I understand how a business functions. You need to make a profit. Do you need to make a 1000% markup? Offering $75 for what on the low end should be a ~$750 laptop is an attempt to make a 1000% profit. I would've considered an offer of $350-400 fair in that scenario. I walk away with something, and the company doubles its money. What you're describing isn't fair business practices, it's simply pure greed. For context, the $75 pittance your company offered wouldn't be enough to purchase the 1TB NVME storage drive, nor the 16GB DDR5, nor the motherboard/cpu/GPU combo (if it had to be replaced), nor the 3.5k OLED display, which by itself is worth ~$400. Any of the constituent parts of the system are worth more alone than what you offered for the whole thing. Obviously this conversation is fruitless, you're going to do what you're going to do. I'll simply take my business elsewhere in the future, and I'll offer my opinion on your store to anyone who asks for it.
Fantastic experience: A great selection of games, vinyls, movies, and electronics. Stop here first if you're looking to add to your retro game collection.
Fantastic experience: Will, Joseph, and Blaze are all great people!!! I didn’t get the others but always a warm welcome!!!
Negative experience: inconsistent return policy
Negative experience: They don't pay fair prices and they are very slow
Fantastic experience: Hey this is the best game exchange on Taylorsville rd is well put together great customer service store is 10/10 shout out to Chris and Hayden
Negative experience: Value of what you’re trading in depends on who is working and how much they care. First time I went I got $65 for a few old PS1 and N64 games and some yugioh cards. Two employees working and they were nice and took their time. Second time in I went through a ton of cards and brought in what I thought might be valuable. Five staff behind the counter, almost no customers. They were immediately standoffish about the cards, acting like I expected them to go through every single one. No, I just assume anything valuable might stand out to people who work with it, that’s all I was asking. Which I guess they did, but for some reason this time I got $14 for like 6 cards and two vinyls which alone should’ve been worth more than what I got the first time. A starboy vinyl worth minimum $30 used, a hurry up tomorrow vinyl worth minimum $20. Somehow got offered $14 for all of that, by the same obviously new (or maybe just complacent) girl who barely wanted to be doing it in the first place. I’m not the type to argue in a store, I’d rather just never do business there again and leave a bad review. Will not be coming back unless I am compensated fairly for my albums or get them returned, since I only sell things here I intend to replace eventually, and now I’m out $60 minimum. Also I checked the cards they didn’t feel like looking through and some have a value of $25+, which will be great for the next store I take them to. Also asked if I could use part of the payout as store credit to get a $4 item and convert the rest to cash but they wouldn’t do that, seems kind of weird. Edit: So I had to edit this review because I realized the orange box was part of what got me $14 yesterday. The orange box is a 360 game that is rare to see for under $30 because it is not available digitally. So in total that is probably over $100 worth of stuff, and I got $14. I am not confrontational and not the type to argue with staff, so it is very rare for me to sell things to stores. I have to know I can trust them ahead of time to not lowball me. That is why last time I traded in things I did not care about as much to get a feel for them. It is downright offensive to me to take this much of a loss and I will not be returning. Evidently some staff are trained better than others or just care more. Really I think I just ticked them off because I had the audacity to think they could help me find the value of my cards. The more I think about it, I bet there is some sort of condition slider and they passive aggressively set it all to bad. The boxes had some smudges and probably could use wiping off, but that’s it. Definitely no worse than last time. One thing positive I can say is the manager seems to know what he’s doing and when he finally stepped up to help things moved along. He was also there the first time around when I had a much more positive experience. Update: I do not appreciate the response to this review. Frankly, I am not an idiot, I know how stores work. I have two decades of experience buying and selling collectibles. I understand the pricing of second hand stores. The fact is, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt the items I brought in would’ve fetched at least $100 on ebay and that is being generously low. I also know for a fact they were worth much more than the items I got $65 for. Look it up yourself. The Orange Box Xbox 360, Hurry Up Tomorrow (First Pressing), Starboy (vinyl). None of those are below $30 USED online. A secondhand shop would be able to price them for at least that, so $14 for all of that plus the cards they took is ridiculous. Especially when I got quadruple the money for half the value. No, the employee was salty and didn’t want to do her job. There are other reviews similar to mine.
Fantastic experience: I came in needing help with certain gaming systems as I am not knowledgeable on them for my son. Chris and Caitlyn were amazing and went above and beyond to help me. I will absolutely be back because of them!
Fantastic experience: Nice clean store! The GM knows what he’s doing!
Fantastic experience: Best place for options
Fantastic experience: Christopher at Game Exchange is Awesome. Today My wife , son and myself walked into the shop and there was a Rude customer that had cursed at the younger female employee. Christopher who I think was the manager had came down and was Firm and fair but told the rude customer that he would not talk to his employee's like that and would no longer be doing any type of business with this guy and for him to leave the business. Need more Managers like this that stand up for their employees. Purchased a 3DS and some games for my 10yr old son today and it made his day . Thanks Game Exchange
Fantastic experience: Great selections of retro and new games, also great selections of Blokees.
Negative experience: 35 percent for graded card and trading value is better at GameStop and through the decades go there instead
Negative experience: everything here is broken and dirty you should be ashamed
Negative experience: just go to Through the Decades right across the street, they actually test their items and give you a cash refund if it doesn’t work. They will refuse to give you cash back and only give you store credit to buy more broken, dirty items for like new eBay prices.
Fantastic experience: Service is great and found exactly what I wanted!
Fantastic experience: Always super nice and helpful! They have the best games from when I was a kid.
Fantastic experience: A great place and so organized!!
Negative experience: I really used to like coming here for the graphic novels, but the prices are outrageous. Selling beat up and bad condition books for the price of a new print. Kind of ridiculous.
Fantastic experience: This place is easily the best place to buy games in the city. Everyone on the staff is super kind and helpful, shoutout specifically to my main man Steve, bros always made sure my weekly patronage has been rewarded. Thanks so much to these guys again!!
Negative experience: Consoles were dirty and controllers were broken. Right on the shelf I could tell they’ve never been cleaned or tested. Got into a slight altercation with an employee named Steve after I tried pointing out some defective items. He threatened to have me ‘banned’ from the store. I don’t even live around here and I’m glad I don’t! AWFUL store. AWFUL customer service. Seeing past reviews of this place I should have just avoided it. Whole front of the store smelled like mold and windowsills were covered in cobwebs. Someone should report this place and have it condemned.
Fantastic experience: This place has a huge selection and Steve is awesome. They have good old school games too.
Fantastic experience: This location is awesome. The two guys behind the counter, Ralph and Steve, took care of my many needs and had everything that I wanted.
Negative experience: I would not buy consoles or controllers here. I live a couple hours away and have enjoyed making trips to Game X Change locations. I’ve never had issues buying games from Game X Change, but buying my first console was a complete nightmare. A few days ago I was in the area and purchased a PlayStation 5 Slim 1TB for $429.99. The console constantly overheats and even completely shuts down when playing certain games, Madden, GTA, etc. Looking at the vents and fan while troubleshooting revealed that there was some dust in the vents and fan. Even the plates on the console had some sort of gunk on them. Dust was also in areas where it easily could have been wiped off, clearly showing that the console was not even opened to be cleaned. This console was obviously not properly cleaned nor properly tested. To make it even worse, the controller that was included has stick drift on the left joystick making it pretty much impossible to use. I had to buy a new controller just to get through the menus. For a purchase this expensive from a franchise store, I expected a working, clean console with a good controller. Instead I got an overheating, dirty console with a controller I can’t even use on the main menu. I paid in cash, have the receipt, and am in their system, but of course they do not offer cash returns, only store credit. Why would I want credit to the store that sold me a console and controller in poor shape? Overall, very disappointing and I will not be shopping at Game X Change at all in the future. Please clean and test your consoles and controllers better.
Negative experience: what a joke. they sell dirty, broken items and argue with customers and refuse returns. the older woman with dark hair was making racially charged ‘jokes’ about a customer that left angry over broken items because I guess they didn’t see me in the isles. younger dark haired boy was laughing. I’ll never return here.
Negative experience: The young man at the desk straight took advantage of this old man. Sold me 2 controllers that clearly do not do what he said they do. And Sold me a part to adapt the controllers and never even put the part in the bag. I left the store without it and not knowing. I will warn all my people to never come here. The guy here will sell you stuff You don't need to make a sell. That's okay, because I'm a level 7 Google reviewer. Hey, not that big of a deal. But this is happening to me on Christmas Eve, and my daughter is very let down that we couldn't even play!!
Negative experience: Garbage

Fantastic experience: Great place if you are looking for anything retro and used for technology, not saying they will 100% have, but never hurts to call or walk in!
Negative experience: My girlfriend and friend were "hired" by this location, took copies of their identification and then were promptly ghosted. I don't think I've ever heard of something like this happening but it's very unprofessional. If you can't handle hiring someone how can you run a place of business?
Negative experience: I came to this establishment recently and had the absolute displeasure of interacting with one of your employees. I unfortunately didn’t catch her name, but she was a thin woman with bleached blonde hair. While shopping for a video game with my daughter, this employee was shockingly rude and unprofessional. Her attitude was unacceptable. She made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable the entire time we browsed. What made this experience even worse was that her behavior included clear microaggressions, and it felt racially charged. This kind of treatment is not only disappointing, it’s heartbreaking. No customer…. especially a parent with their child should be made to feel that way in a place of business. I hope management takes this seriously and addresses it appropriately. We will NOT be returning.
Negative experience: Received AWFUL customer service at this location (which I usually love) that will ensure I never visit again. You need to fire the girl with the terrible bleached hair, she is unbelievably rude and won't lift a finger to help paying customers!!
Fantastic experience: Not a bad place if you want to look for retro games. Prices are debatable and in some cases pretty extreme(saw used switch 2 joycons for 49 each) thats the same price as a new pair.. Staff is pretty friendly and helpful, I spotted a fake cards in their expensive card section and they immediately pulled it off the shelf. The prices on old DS games were pretty solid though.
Negative experience: Brought my nephew here because he asked. We got lunch and as we were walking over we saw what I assume to be the manager chasing a customer out of the store and the customer had to pull his receipt out of his pocket to make the man stop. Chasing paying customers out of a store is not how you maintain a business. We will not be coming back here and I hope the manager is reprimanded accordingly. I don’t know how to contact HR but that is unacceptable and is a terrible look for this company.
Fantastic experience: I visited the jtown location today, and the two young men working behind the counter were very knowledgeable and helpful with my Nintendo DS. Before my visit I called to ask if they had a charger for it, and the man that answered the phone was very nice helpful and professional, as they both were in person. They should get a raise for good customer service.
Fantastic experience: Great selection, the staff seemed knowledgeable.
Fantastic experience: Cool store with reasonable prices and nice employees!
Fantastic experience: Candice was fantastic and made the selling process smooth! Thank you!
Negative experience: I'm writing this review because I had an atrocious experience with your staff. My fiancé went in to sell a psvr2 which we were given an estimate of 100$ possibly 99 hardly the point. When we decided to actually sell it about a week later, we were told only 70$ as there was no DualShock controller (which is never sold with it). when my fiancé put me on the phone. I began to inquire as to why there was the sudden need for the DualShock controller, I was interrupted. When I had said not to interrupt and allow me to finish my statement (explained I formerly worked at GameStop/customer service too and why it was rude to interrupt) she cut me off and said if I didn't like the price we can take it somewhere else and hung up. I believe it is clear we will not be back if that is how customers are going to be treated when inquiring on sudden changes about offered prices. The employee spoke to be a girl with straightened bleach blonde hair and a pink coat/vest. While I doubt this comment will warrant a firing, I do firmly believe that if you are wanting a better customer experience that she goes back to retrain on how to maintain a polite customer interaction. I won't be recommending this location to anyone for the customer service alone as this no longer has anything do to with the initial transaction.
Negative experience: Neither game worked. Nor did the apple product. The apple product was not cleared out before being put for sale so it was unusable as it was linked to the previous owner who of course we have no way of knowing. Now we have to return our ENTIRE purchase from yesterday and can only get in store credit for the entire thing. Not good when nothing I purchased from there worked, literally NONE of the items we bought.
Positive experience: Cool collectibles and the staff are helpful
Fantastic experience: Many choices, some toys and old consoles. Some Pokemon cards. Not many Switch options. We are in town once a year and stop every time. It’s worth it for the look.
Negative experience: This place is a complete scam. Game X Change knowingly sells broken and outdated products without testing anything. I bought something from them and paid in cash. It was damaged and didn’t even work. When I came back the next day with my receipt to ask for a refund, they flat-out refused to give my money back and only offered store credit. Total ripoff. What kind of business sells garbage and then refuses to take it back less than 24 hours later? Even worse, while I was in the store trying to deal with this, another guy was there arguing with them because they sold him a broken game too. This clearly isn’t a one-time mistake. They make a habit of dumping junk on customers and then hiding behind shady policies. The staff didn’t care, didn’t apologize, and didn’t offer any real help. Just a bunch of smug indifference while they keep scamming people. Avoid this place at all costs unless you enjoy wasting money on useless trash and being treated like garbage. This store is a joke and should not be in business.
Negative experience: Selling monitors used for more then brand new online! Can't change the price? Come on now!
Positive experience: Game X Change is a store we go to every other week or so. We like the variety and rotation of product there. It’s good to buy used games and consoles for a decent price. The customer service isn’t the best. Before they moved locations I was greeted every time we entered- now half the time they don’t even greet or look at us. This new location also smells like natural gas, especially when you first enter. There is a lack of games especially new consoles.
Fantastic experience: Store was still not open at 12 on Saturday I’m from out of town this is very inconventient when the times state otherwise on the website. I posted by mistake this was an outage
Fantastic experience: This is actually a great place to find retro and current game stuff. They do have a large variety of current up-to-date games AAA games mostly used last gin such as Xbox One and PS4 as well as tons of retro going all the way back to Atari which the further you go back to more limited it is with the exception of the NES there is a ton of that. I particularly was looking for Sega stuff but there was a very limited selection of Sega especially Saturn and Dreamcast. That's the case almost everywhere though. Not to say they don't have anything because they do have everything you need to get started it's just that there probably isn't more than half a dozen games for the Saturn and maybe a dozen of the Dreamcast at each location to choose from most of those being sports games no one wants nonetheless, I love the store and will definitely be a return customer.
Negative experience: I tried to exchange a game I bought from them and they said they don't honor that. I bought a $20 game from them, that didn't work/wasn't happy with and tried to return it 3 days after, there were no signs posted saying they have a 24 hour warranty. They didn't replace it, only gave me $4 in store credit or $2 cash. I brought in a Funko and they offered me $2 for it, the manager told me himself it retails for $45. They jack their prices up and offer you nothing for the games you sell, nor do they do any exchanges- but it's in the name!
Fantastic experience: Great environment. Staff was nice
Fantastic experience: Everyone was super nice and helpful! Brought in a super scratched up game disk from my childhood and they cleaned it and even tested the game. Employee Candice was super nice and helpful! Definitely shopping and trading there again.
Fantastic experience: Great vintage stuff
Fantastic experience: Great selection of reused and retro stuff to pick from! Heavily recommended for anyone into any kind of pop culture media! Helpful and friendly staff!
Positive experience: Great store, good amout of used games, game merch, and anime merch. However check your disks ive had them put the wrong disk in the box, and more than one wasnt cleaned properly.
Fantastic experience: you buy playstation 4 games
Negative experience: Spoke with a gentleman on the phone who confirmed that they were taking DVD box sets and blu-rays, but when we arrived, the girl behind the counter audibly complained within earshot about our absurd amount of items. Admittedly it was an hour before closing, however, it’s in poor taste to complain about a customer within clear earshot for several minutes on end. It would have been much more polite to ask us to come back another time, rather than make us feel unwelcome. Immediately on showing her our bulk cards she tried to talk us out of the entire transaction by stressing how little they’d offer us, and at the end of the interaction we tried to make her aware that we could hear her complaining the entire time - she responded “It’s just policy”. It’s in our policy that we will never return to this location.
Fantastic experience: I had a really great experience here! I was helped by a nice person named Candice, who helped me with some DS games. They were super knowledgeable, helpful, and really kind- I felt like I was talking with a friend. I was unhappy at another location, but this one has lots of good stock and really great employees :)
Negative experience: Selling a used Series S for $250 when a new one is $280 with a controller. They're selling a used console at a worse rate than brand new. Told me on the phone they had one for $180. When I arrived they said a new employee told me the wrong number. Call me and fix it. I drove 45 minutes to get here. GameStop is closed now, with a better deal on a new system.
Fantastic experience: So I recently made a comment regarding the staff, I take back my negative review. I was wrong. The staff is awesome. The place is great and welcoming.
Fantastic experience: There is SO MUCH to hunt through here and it is so organized that it does not feel like a chore.
Fantastic experience: I was looking for Need For Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered for Nintendo Switch and found it here for $28 thanks
Fantastic experience: This place was such a breath of fresh air on the particular day that I went the atmosphere was amazing the music that was being played made u feel like u where in a retro arcade. Staff was fun and friendly
Negative experience: Terrible experience customer service was almost nonexistent the lady helping me kept taking phone calls and leaving the register while we were still conducting business also eating food while not on break and I know this because I heard her say she wasn’t on break the only reason I give one star is the pricing but the trade value is awful
Negative experience: I bought a game for the gamecube that didn't work so I returned it and they 'tested it' on a wii and said it worked and now it's back out on the floor to be sold again for gamecube. Felt like they didn't trust me when I said it didn't work.
Fantastic experience: Great store with friendly staff!
Thanks so much for the review, Michelle! We’re so glad you had a great experience with us and we can’t wait to see you again!
Fantastic experience: The entire staff is polite and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Pretty much a pawnshop for games and electronics. Reasonable pricing
Fantastic experience: Do not know the two ladies name but very professional. Answered all questions and very friendly.
Thanks so much for the review, Anthony! We’re glad we were able to answer your questions and help out! We hope to see you again soon.
Fantastic experience: Great place
Positive experience: Awesome collectibles and a really sweet lady behind the counter
Positive experience: Cards
Negative experience: When me and my brother went in there he is 17 and I'm 13 it smelled like beer and marijuana do not go there
Fantastic experience: Always a friendly staff, knowledgeable and a variety of games, moves, apperal and other knick nacks available. I regurarly visit for great deals!
Fantastic experience: Such a cool store! I will be coming back soon with friends.
Positive experience: Fun place. I confess I am fond of getting stickers there. Lots of Otaku stuff.
Fantastic experience: Can you guys take this game called nfs unbound and trade me a gift card for it
Fantastic experience: Good prices, friendly staff, good selection of games and funko pops, also a few pokemon cards
Positive experience: It was a nice place, lots of figurines and anime stuff, but the retro game catalog was a bit underwhelming. Was missing some core systems to buy for, and while one of the controllers didn't work, I should be able to return it. Overall, I was happy with what I got, but don't expect a lot of retro stuff, the lineup for most of the systems was really lacking.
Fantastic experience: As all Game Xchanges in the area, fantastic.
Fantastic experience: Huge selection of new and retro video games. Friendly staff who was very helpful. This place is stacked with anime and collectibles as well. A+
Fantastic experience: Great service and selection!
Fantastic experience: They had a shrek game! The curation is tremendous!
Thanks so much for the review Isaac! We’re so glad that you had a great experience with us and found a Shrek game!! We can’t wait to see you again!
Negative experience: I was often a customer , this place has poor management and was often welcomed in the past. My recent transaction to sell items was given poor price and when asked for refund I was poorly treated over decision. They poorly treat books and don't update wares. Don't trust them with your business.
Hi Kyle, we're so sorry you had such a negative experience with us. Please reach out to us at [email protected] if there's anything we can do to make your next experience a better one!
Positive experience: Still need better lighting in the very back row where the PS1 games are. I either have to cover my eyes from the overhead lights (which do not illuminate that entire row) or I have to use my cell phone flashlight to see the games. It's been like that since you guys moved around corner. Other than that, a good place to get used games and such. Have bought many a game from this place.
Negative experience: Customer service horrible. And in my opinion there return policy is unjust "no refunds only store credit"
Fantastic experience: Enjoyed looking at merchandise. Very cool place
Fantastic experience: The employees are super helpful! They have all the nerd gear I could want. Comics, cards, books, obviously games. Great place!
Fantastic experience: What a gem of retro gaming and gifts in our area! GameStop doesn't carry any of the retro stuff anymore and their stores seem so bare. This place is packed to the brim with new, old, and nostalgic items. They have movies, vinyl, comic books, Funko, fandom gear, televisions, and hard to find items. Their staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They are conveniently located in the large shopping center at the corner of Hurstbourne Pkwy and Taylorsville Rd, near Kroger. You can count on having help when you need it and feeling free to browse and explore without feeling rushed - this introvert's dream come true! If you are looking for used newer games, retro gaming, unique hard to find items, be sure to visit them. They buy, sell, trade, so if you need to unload old stuff, they are really fair.
Thanks so much for the awesome review! We’re so glad that you had such a great experience with us and we can’t wait to see you again!
Negative experience: Would have left zero but not an option . I was asked to leave the store and come back later at 330 pm so the workers could eat lunch !!! Obviously I’ll never go back but what a pathetic operation !
Fantastic experience: Very helpful and attentive staff. Jess is 10/10 helpful. Ben helped me find a game I’ve been looking for since I bought my wii.
Fantastic experience: Place has good pricing and staff was friendly and helpful
Thanks so much for the review! We’re so glad that you had a great experience with us and we can’t wait to see you again!
Fantastic experience: Staff are genuinely good and funny people. Love visiting this location every week to check for good finds.
Fantastic experience: Great staff. Very supportive and attentive. Retro gaming paradise.
Fantastic experience: Such an awesome little store to buy and sell gaming stuff from cards to consoles to board games. They even have a section of nerf guns! It's like game stop but 115% better! Absolutely love this place!!
Thanks so much for the review! We’re so glad that you had a great experience with us and we can’t wait to see you again!
Positive experience: Why would you put product out if it’s not for sale? Makes no sense to me! Good selection of games/ movies and memorabilia but if not for product being out but not for sale I’d give 5 stars
Negative experience: We were in there few days ago. Guy that helped us seem like he could care less. We were interested in a iPhone and iPad that you have. He pulls it out and we are asking questions and he says just a minute and goes to help someone that had left and come back. That's very wrong to do when a customer is trying to buy something. You could of told the other people I'll be right with you. It was like we were being discriminated against in a way. If I could give 0 stars I would. I really needed the things I was lookingnsy someone doesn't spend 100s without asking questions. Go back to customer service school
Positive experience: Lots of merchandise to look over. Friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Very knowledgeable very friendly staff very helpful with every need with gaming be vintage or new they are very kind
Fantastic experience: Amazing place, so much better than a gamestop
Fantastic experience: Excellent customer service friendly staff
Positive experience: Great store!!!
Fantastic experience: Really great service!!
