GAMESWAP: Reviews
Negative experience: $100 wasted. Purchased an Xbox Elite controller from here. I get it home and plug it in that night, it’s broken- The headset jack is busted and R3 doesn’t work at all, rendering it worthless- completely unusable. Good thing I asked about the return policy when I purchased it! The gal had said that, if for some reason it didn’t work, I could return it for a refund, so, I bring it right back the next morning, with the receipt in hand and the guy working today says, “no refunds, whatsoever. All sales are final. I don’t know who told you that, but they were wrong.” I really wish they had a sign or their staff were better informed on their own policies. I decided to try and fix it up and resell it to potentially get maybe half my money back via eBay or just gift it to someone, because I don’t even want to look at it anymore. I take it to a repair place and it turns out, R3/L3 are the only two buttons where repair cost is the same as just buying a new one. So, I’m just SOL. Out $100. Meanwhile, GameStop will let you return anything, for any reason, within 90 days, with a receipt- let alone if they had sold me something that is completely broken / utterly useless. I am never a person to choose corporate over local, but this place has me rethinking where I shop.
Positive experience: Customer service was alright. Didn't get much for what I brought in. Seem to be undercutting to the lowest pricing amount and not the average. They pay cash. Although any loose discs they will not buy. No matter what it is or how rare or expensive. Big bummer. A complete game with instruction manuals and box can be extremely rare the older the game is. And many were thrown in recycling decades ago. But it's apparently the policy no matter how good and in shape a disc is. I'd recommend only if you're in a hurry and need $ fast selling your old game stuff.
Fantastic experience: Huge selection easy to get to and good parking staff friendly and willing to help
Fantastic experience: Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Fantastic experience: Great place for retro gamers
Fantastic experience: Renee! She is the absolutely most phenomenal best person ever. She helped me find for dvds, and then she recommended a combination DVD instead of buying each one individually it comes in one container! She was smiley, patient, enthusiastic, and so wonderful! I very much appreciate renee! She even warned us about the animatronics, and took us a path that didn't set them off to scare kids! Wow! Way to go Renee! You are an all star!
Fantastic experience: We stopped here on our way to Cincinnati and had a blast. They have an awesome selection of retro arcade games to play. There is also a great selection of video games, comics, books, and music.
Fantastic experience: Great retro gaming store!
Fantastic experience: Got a few sweet old school gameboy games like tetris. Staff was super knowledgeable.
Fantastic experience: They have good movies and video games
Fantastic experience: Great selection, helpful staff, buy or sell.
Fantastic experience: Very cool place!
Fantastic experience: Great selection, staff, and prices!
Fantastic experience: I bought a GameCube there and it was like new The only thing is it's hard to find oem controller but that ok good on prices for games
Negative experience: seems like a cool place with a lot to look at, called in asking for a psvita charger and they told me they had it. drove 30 minutes to the shop just to find out they only have psp chargers and the guy on the phone just didn’t understand. simple mistake but terrible taste in my mouth as a customer considering i drove a bit just to be told ♂️
Fantastic experience: It's always just pure fun to shop here. So many different collectibles and viewing choices. Plus super cheap comics and the vintage wrestling magazines rock.
Negative experience: The owner of this store isnt to friendly and seems like its a task to do anything. The prices are all over the place some good, some bad and some just right. I still come in and check because he does have some stuff I need. They really need to work on their customer service, especially the owner.
Fantastic experience: Really good people. It’s my favorite place to go for retro games, and I don’t get scalped for nostalgia like I do online.
Positive experience: They have a bigger movie and TV selection than game selection, however, they have a few arcade machines around, which are the main reason I keep coming back again and again and again. The staff are friendly and the vibe is nice. They have TVs throughout the store that play whatever the staff feel like playing that day (I like when they play 90s cartoons such as X-Men), which is a nice touch. Highly recommend if you're looking to fill out your DVD collection or play some Asteroids, Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Street Fighter II, or Marvel vs Capcom 2.
Fantastic experience: I've visited this shop twice so far, and both times have been very enjoyable experiences. The store is clean, well-organized, and easy to browse, which makes shopping much more pleasant. They have a great selection of video games, movies, and other physical media that appeal to collectors and casual buyers alike. One thing that really stood out to me was their impressive collection of video game strategy guides—one of the best I've come across in a long time. Whether you're looking for something specific or just want to explore, this store is definitely worth checking out. I'm already looking forward to going back again soon.
Fantastic experience: Got my GameCube working again for a great price. They put a lot of care into taking it apart, fixing it, and thoroughly testing it.
Fantastic experience: Professional and knowledgeable staff a true treasure trove of nostalgia and old feels for media lovers of all forms!
Fantastic experience: My favorite place in the Dayton area.
Positive experience: Nice place! I've been here once or twice before. Definitely a go to place for DVDs and even VHS tapes. They had a DVD I needed to finish a set off. Was hoping for a little more of a game selection but I found one. Id go back.
Fantastic experience: OG consoles and arcade games. Great selection. A lot of memories
Fantastic experience: Great place to find vintage and like new movies, games, and figures. My kids love to just come in and play the arcade games.
Fantastic experience: One of my favorite stores I shop there quite often awesome stuff and great people
Fantastic experience: if i could concoct a magical spell that could ensure that this place exists forever and will arise from the ash and dust of any natural disaster i would do it in a heartbeat. this is genuinely a safe space for me and as an avid VHS tape collector i am always finding some gems to take home with me. they’ve even started getting in some criterion collection releases which is super exciting. 10/10 this place is absolutely iconic
Positive experience: Went here with my dad and got some skylanders, got 4 for like 20 bucks so not that bad but at the time they didn't have much, but if you're not into skylanders, you will definitely find something you like
Fantastic experience: Old school cool
Negative experience: I used to really enjoy coming into the store and browsing. It’s a larger store with an okay selection. Today, unfortunately, I was met with some strange hostility and defensiveness concerning disc buffing, and an unwillingness to check for a particular game. Perhaps the clerk was having a busy or off day, but I won’t be back after the experience. There are too many other great game stores in the area to spend money feeling like an inconvenience.
Negative experience: They came recommended, but when we arrived the employee had a horrible elitist attitude and talked down to me and my wife. Just because we wanted to spend our hard earned money on an older system and games. At one point he even laughed at us and mocked us. Im a 15 year military vet, and if I want to spend my money on Xbox 360 accessories... I didn't deserve to be talked to and treated like he did... I wanted to show him what our soldiers are trained to do when they aren't pushing the x and y buttons to releave a little stress. Afterwards we went to Game Runners and found better service, better prices and respect. Avoid Game Swap!
Fantastic experience: This is the place if you're looking for that hard to find movie or series! Games and collectibles are reasonably priced. And old school arcade cabinets definitely keep your inter-geek going!
Fantastic experience: Great store! Selection of comics will come back
Fantastic experience: Games are plentiful packed store with DVD, music etc
Negative experience: Changed my rating from 5 to 2 stars! Guy with a long hair in a ponytail was very weird to me after I went in and exchanged a game that wasn’t working properly. He didn’t even acknowledge me after our conversation and after I thanked him for letting me exchange the game and he completely ignored me.
Positive experience: Pretty good selection on both mainstream and hard to find cult titles, with some pro wrestling and other various pop culture goodness thrown in for good measure. One of if not the only stores I have ever been in that has played the weird Al parody over the original song on the radio, so major points for that on a personal level. The prices can be hit or miss, depending on what you're looking on, but they are generally pretty fair. Also has a selection of arcade cabinets for you to play while you are browsing the store, their home console selection, while encapsulating many platforms, is a tad underwhelming.... Still more than GameStop usually has though.
Fantastic experience: Great place to find vintage video games!
Positive experience: Randomly walked into this pop culture resale shop of comics, DVD, action figures and was presently surprised at certain select items I hadn't seen at other resale shops.
Fantastic experience: Good price
Fantastic experience: Contrary to other reviewers, I've never had a negative customer service experience at Gameswap. The employees are friendly, and I love the atmosphere of the place, all the beeping arcade machines and shelves to look through. My only critique is that the 4K selection is usually lacking, but I've gotten some great deals and I often drive to this area just to peruse this store.
Fantastic experience: Just excellent. Super staff. Intense selection. Very very metal.
Negative experience: I don't recommend doing business here I had a horrible experience with an employee with a serious attitude problem. Long story short, I brought in some of my wife's old games to trade them in for cash. The employee Garrison looked over my items and gave me a quote that was super low. I told him I'd have to talk it over with my wife, and as soon as I said that, Garrison refused to even look at me, didn't say a word, and ignored me as I thanked him for his time and said I'd come back if my wife agreed. Like didn't even say "okay", just completely stopped interacting with me as if I disappeared. Despite this, I went back later to tell him (It was Garrison again who helped me) I talked it over and was ready to sell. He told me it would be a wait since he had others ahead of me, and that he would be done by tomorrow, so I told him I'd just come back tomorrow to drop it off. Again, without so much as saying "okay" he immediately turned back towards his computer and ignored me, without saying another word as I thanked him for his time, wished him well, and left. I am glad that after leaving I decided to get a second opinion, as another store gave me 2x the offer they did, without all the horrible attitude! I can't fathom how this store plans to stay in business when their employee treats people this way, just because I decided not to sell. There are plenty of better alternatives and I will not be returning here, and I recommend nobody else shop here either, or trade in games here.
Negative experience: The staff are rude and neglectful. They don’t have time to help you find something or check you out at the register, when there isn’t even a line..
Fantastic experience: They have a lot to look at. Both times going we ended up leaving with stuff. Pricing around pricecharting which is fair.
Positive experience: Nostalgic in so many ways, even though it's was my first time going to the store. I've known about it since around the early 2010s . They only had the same color of DSi's, would've been nicer to see more variety of Nintendo DS's and colors, loved seeing all the Dragon Ball Z stuff, and other action figures.
Negative experience: I was going around the Dayton mall when I drove past an old game place called game swap, I walked in planning on selling my limited edition guitar hero ds lite and as I walk up to the counter I was ungreeted and barley talked to, so I hand him the console and told him I'd like to trade but in responding I got that he can ONLY do cash no store credit or trade, so I was offered 15$ so I just held onto it as I looked around at movies and games there was barely any video games and the movies were over priced, I would never go back there sadly to see a business like that when I've been to many other ones that are 100 times better.
Fantastic experience: Great selection, reasonable prices. Looking forward to going back
Fantastic experience: Fun to dig in the movie section for old classics and full moon features.
Fantastic experience: One of my fav places to go. They have everything.
Fantastic experience: Game Swap Kettering has been very helpful in service, price and supporting the local community. They are very competitively priced on most items; often times cheaper than what items can be purchased for online once you count in shipping. They often have in store events such as acoustic performances of local musicians, signing events with local film makers and comic book artists, and video game tournaments. Ask about the toy collection! Ask about the comics! Ask about the vinyl records! They have Funko Pops!
Negative experience: Stop shutting the place down randomly. It’s not how you run a business. I shouldn’t have to call a business ahead of time to make sure they’re open at their normal hours. You just do it or don’t open up anymore guys.
Fantastic experience: Very cool place. It took me back to my childhood and my children's younger years with all the retro merchandise. They carry more than just games. You can find music, collector items, books and clothing to name a few. Enjoy the old arcade games they have available to play.
Negative experience: They have a nice array of horror movies, however when I come in I'm completely ignored and treated like my business doesn't matter. The smell in the store is alittle off putting as well.
Fantastic experience: My boyfriend and I love coming here. Great selection of games, blu rays & collectibles. Love the vibe of the store as well & the staff has always been super friendly.
Fantastic experience: Cool place to pick up movies for a reasonable price. Hidden gem! Thanks for the customer service!!
Fantastic experience: What a store. The various arcade cabinet cabinets spanning the eras between Asteroids and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 could alone keep me there for hours. They also have a vast assortment of retro and newer video games and consoles for sale including some very rare and still in the box selections. Staff is friendly and always willing to help. I was very pleased, spent way more money than I intended (not always a bad thing), and I sure as hell plan on coming back.
Negative experience: Customer service is horrible. Have been there twice now and neither times was I asked if I needed assistance. This last time I went to the counter twice and waited to be acknowledged by either employee and nothing. I was planning on buying a NES and SNES with games to squelch my craving for retro games. Looks like I will be going to Ebay for them.
Fantastic experience: Great selection of DRM-free media and super friendly staff that is very professional and reasonably priced. Superior knowledge and ability in fixing old game consoles!
Fantastic experience: Great store. I walked in and was hit by so many childhood memories I just kind of stopped and took it all in. From all the old stuff to new stuff. Great place to find games, movies and more.
Positive experience: Has a large selection of movies and games which was cool, and their prices aren’t too bad but the store has a strong chemical stench inside which was weird. Also pro tip for the male staff member behind the counter with the dark shaggy hair: staring at customers with a dirty look on your face as they enter and leave isn’t going to inspire a lot of sales. That and the smell was why I did not stick around for very long.
Fantastic experience: Great selection of vintage games and videos. Lots of cool collectibles too. Great staff.
Positive experience: Decent selection of games and figures, but the place reeks of mothballs and makes the shopping experience unpleasant.
Fantastic experience: Great media shop, all kinds of cool stuff. Movies, games, toys, collectables. You never know what you'll find. Staff is wonderful.
Negative experience: Found some stuff I was looking for but when I paid they didn't give me one item I paid for and I had to travel back from trotwood to get.
Fantastic experience: One of my all time favorite places to go for retro games and movies. They also carry alot of cool and rare collectibles along with music. Steve and Matt are good friends and I love to support friends with a good local business. If you're in the area, please stop by and check out this store. You won't be disappointed.
Fantastic experience: Best video game store in the Dayton area (at least that I've been to). Staff is friendly, games are organized by console, and it's easy to look through everything. Some sections are a little oversaturated with commons but overall it is a good selection. Prices are fair and even picked up a several really good deals.
Fantastic experience: Best secondhand store around. Games, music, movies, posters; anything you can imagine. More than fair prices. Hope they stick around forever!
Fantastic experience: Amazing place to go. Friendly staff. I always leave with multiple items. Every thing from retro video games to comics and movies to music. They also carry collectable toys and vinyl. Something for everyone. And the place has so much cool stuff on the walls. Definitely worth a trip.
Negative experience: The guy just seemed really irritated to have people coming in to sell stuff. Idk. It just wasn't great business tbh and I just don't feel like I'll go in again. Only my opinion though. Had some good stuff too. Lol
Fantastic experience: Great Customer Experience. They helped troubleshoot an issue I had with my N64 (Grape purple), with sound and picture not showing up on the tv.... Turns out, the game ''Crusin World'' purchased off (ebay) had been tampered with. I ended up purchasing two N64 Games from gameswap, ''Rush 2'' and ''Crusin world'' . Both worked Flawlessly. Will do business again and I suggest you make this your one stop shop for games and repairs.
Fantastic experience: Love the arcade games and retro feel.
Fantastic experience: Great place to go to get game and dvd
Fantastic experience: Great selection and knowledgeable staff.
Fantastic experience: Great place for retro games.
Positive experience: My grandson likes it.
Fantastic experience: Stopped by to pick up a gaming item for my PS2 and also found a great Stephen King movie, purchased that ad well. Great place, like going back in time, good times. Store clerk was very knowledgeable about everything I asked.
Fantastic experience: It's the first place I go for anything vintage.
Negative experience: I got to the store to buy a game for my baby sisters birthday and the game disc was broken
Fantastic experience: Me and the whole family really enjoy coming here. Always a chill vibe. I had bought a Scooby-Doo movie for my little one and we didn't watch it right away, probably a month or so went by and we realized it was the wrong movie inside. So I went up so see if they still had it and they didn't. However, the guy who helped me out was really nice and was willing to let my daughter pick another movie. The staff has never been anything but kind to me and my family.
Fantastic experience: Retro store of my dreams. Great prices, around the average the games are going for online these days.
Fantastic experience: Great place they have all kinds of video games and systems
Fantastic experience: Packed with merchandise, great prices and friendly staff!
Positive experience: Full..alright selection could use more game options, consoles, accessories for consoles, more board and card games. Fun that they have some arcade machines.
Fantastic experience: I have been shopping here for years and I usually always find what I need and the staff is helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: AMAZING!!! Great prices and great stuff! 100000 times better than gamestop
Positive experience: A good place thats local where you can find a lot of the old movie or gaming needs!
Fantastic experience: I highly recommend this store. Hands down the best retro game/media store in the area. They have a wonderful selection of games, movies/TV series, books and more. The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. I can't say enough about just how awesome this place really is.
Fantastic experience: Always great stuff to look at there's no way you can't find something you want or need
Fantastic experience: I apologize if my last review sounded harsh. Brought the game back and they revived it. An amazing store. Wish they had one in harrison
Fantastic experience: This place was fun to visit. Lots of "nerdy" nostalgic items. Lots of used dvds and old games. Not so many used Nintendo switch games though.
Fantastic experience: I sold an old Wii and several old video games. I had done a little research on prices and I feel they gave me fair prices. The staff was very personable and seemed to enjoy what they do.
Fantastic experience: Love this place! Always a thrill to be in there. Every time I'm there I always find something nostalgically awesome. Very friendly and fun staff. Definitely would and will recommend this place to anyone and everyone.
Fantastic experience: Great selection, great people will shop here again
Fantastic experience: Compared to some of the other game stores in Kettering/Dayton this place always has good selection, good prices, and good customer service. GameSwap is a much much better option than going and getting ripped off at gamerunners 5 minutes away.
Fantastic experience: This was a fun game store. They had old video games from the 80s in their arcade. We got the dance game.
Fantastic experience: Great place; huge selection, great people, and arcade games you can play free of charge. 10/10 will be coming back with more money.
Fantastic experience: Literally the best game store I've ever been to. Their selection is incredible. They have a ton of retro games, movies, and even a vinyl record section. Amazing!!!!
Fantastic experience: Wonderful place! I love the goofy decorations, from the homemade art all over the store to the various posters and or action figures with googly eyes it was very enjoyable to absorb all the little details of the environment. The action figure collections were odd and old and fun to go through. And there were lots of retro Games, consoles, movies, records, and CDs. It had everything you could want from a store like this!
Positive experience: Nice selection good prices nice cashiers
