Experiencia fantástica: Stopped by the Studio Hero x 1 Up Retro fundraiser pop-up after the store break-in, and it honestly reminded me why community matters so much. Even with everything they had been through, the vibe was welcoming and supportive, and it was really cool to see people show up for them. We came toward the end of the event and weren’t able to participate fully, but the fact that so many businesses and customers rallied around 1 Up Retro speaks volumes. Wishing them continued success and definitely planning to support in the future.

Experiencia positiva: Great location with a pretty average selection. I get the feeling they, reasonably enough, rely on in-house trades for stock, but I don't think I've gone in and been able to find a game I was actively looking for. I would recommend they "seed" their stock with online purchases even if it means marking them up $10 to compensate. They have plenty of systems but the game selection is the equivalent of a wall of Madden 2007s for PS2: Whatever they have, you probably already have it or don't really want it. I like that they put on local events but there are other local options for when I'm looking for decent games.

The store is packed with retro consoles, old-school cartridges, and some collectibles that bring back all the nostalgia. The staff are friendly, helpful, and clearly know their stuff, which makes browsing even more fun. They also have a small section with art for sale, some posters and a couple of Mario-themed pieces. It would be nice to see more of that creative touch throughout the shop since it would really add to the overall vibe. A few more themed decorations or local gaming art would make the space even cooler. Overall, it’s a great store with a huge selection and a lot of heart. Whether you are hunting for rare games or just want to reminisce about the classics, 1-Up Retro Video Games is absolutely worth checking out.

Made some good priced X-Box One deals. Too much old games? You can sell them here. Only the parking situation is not the best one. Nice employees inside ... great for gamers.

Experiencia fantástica: Nice store honestly, easy to find stuff inside it, staffs nice, decent prices, they sell cheap Pokémon cards, 25 cents for loose, Pokémon cards that aren't worth really anything, theres still some cool older cards, and holos mixed in and some pokemon that belong to trainers like Team Rocket, good for those trying to collect Pokémon cards for fun, they also sell ex and v and older Pokémon cards for 75 cents to 5 dollars depending on what you are buying, I'd recommend this shop for anyone looking for Pokémon cards but dont care as much for valuable cards, they do also sell cards that are kinda valuable, i saw a $200 collectable one there if that interests you, its good if you're trying to get all 1025 Pokémon or trying to find ex, v, Japanese and older(like 2005, 2007) cards or find cards like Arvens Pokémon or Team Rockets Pokémon for your collection

Experiencia negativa: Good selection. They charge way too much though for the condition they keep the cases in. No plastic sleeves and they apply tape directly to cases leaving residual glue and damaging items. If they arent going to take care of the product they shouldnt be trying to charge premium resell prices. Edit reply: They did not clean residue (or offer) and the plastic sleeves would allow clear viewing of the cases just fine, also without every random persons oils touching the cases. Again premium prices with the shop unwilling to go the extra mile. Better to just buy online tbh.

Experiencia negativa: Good prices on retro consoles but other than that this place is too dirty. The ground needs to be mopped or shined or something, it feels like I'm in a Goodwill. You might as well not even have a card section of the store, the prices are horrible and the bulk isn't organized and there are dirty and damaged modern cards in the boxes! There is cheap video game merch you can tell was cheaply made, you don't have to peddle bad merch! Lastly, not enough inventory.

I’m tryna shop not enter a whole museum and I’m kinda being over dramatic w this one because it only happened once, I think. Experiencia fantástica: With myself being considered a Gamer starting back in the days of the Super Nintendo system & onwards (Super Nintendo, N64, Playstation, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, etc.), I honestly love what's now considered as "Retro Gaming." So with today (2/10/25) eventually/finally being my first visit to this Retro Gaming Store, I absolutely loved the environment. The staff were friendly & really helpful. They unfortunately didn't have every PS2/PS3/PSP corresponding games/accessories I asked about, but I eventually found at least 4 PS2 games I had ask if they had. I definitely want to go back as often as possible, & most definitely recommend other Retro Gamers to check out this store if you don't already know about it.

Vintage video game posters adorn the walls, video game music is blaring from the speakers, stuff from the ancient Atari all the way up to the PS5 on every shelf. Experiencia fantástica: Was in Sacramento and my friends Jerod and Jace from my part time job at Laughing Crow Collectibles in Modesto told me to check them out at some point and figured this eas the perfect time. The shop was very spacious with arcade games in the back and a testing station for games in front. While their I was able to find a couple of things for my personal collection for an affordable price. Will definitely check back in!

When I arrived I was told they are not accepting trade ins even thought I had stuff like ZTotK in ex shape. I want to support independent stores but with poor selection of games and worse customer service I won't be coming back. I wish I didn't have to go to the big box store but they did give me over $150 in credit for the same bag of games 1-Up wouldn't look at

It can get warm during the summer, but the store has a great atmosphere. It's a place where gamers can hang out. They also have comfy couches for the non-gamers to relax while the others shop.

Update: this place has given me some of the best trade-ins for store credit in the Sacramento area compared to GameStop and some other stores. The owner is chill and treats returning customers amazingly. The selection of retro games is pretty cool and they have some unique items such as inbox Chrono Trigger which is pretty awesome to see. I also have a little lounge area where you can just kick back and play some games and hang out.

Experiencia fantástica: As a customer, since it’s opening on its first day, watching it grow into a staple and part of the community in Midtown Sacramento. It’s super cool. I’m not quite sure if it’s the owner. I interact with every time I’m in there, but my son always has plenty of questions, he is always so excited to go and hang out there. Both gentlemen that my son is interacted with have been kind and patient, and we were just there yesterday and they were extraordinarily busy and my son wanted to talk about his retro gaming collection and the gentleman was so interested in what he had to say and it made my heart happy to see my son engaging with people. As a mother of a child with autism I have to say thank you very much. It’s nice To know that when he’s in your store, he will not be made fun of and his business is appreciated in his enthusiasm for gaming is met with your great enthusiasm. Side note, I purchased a game that was not compatible with my consul and they just exchanged it. No questions asked it was really really cool. Another thing on a financial note they have a customer appreciation sign-up and the points don’t expire and that’s a big help if we don’t make it in time, another thing so if you break something they can typically fix it or replace the parts It’s not just a fun place. It’s actually a legit business to help keep your investment running. Thank you

Experiencia positiva: I have a gone a few times to 1-Up as the location is great in Midtown. The selection is decent for how much foot traffic they get. I was a bit disappointed with my first purchase at the shop. I bought two games and it ended up being that 1 of them the case was broke on the inside so the outer case was taped shut?? I not sure why a Gamestore would sell a game like then when they could easily replace it. This is even more disappointing especially when the pricing at 1 up is not great. Prices will be above Ebay and Pricecharting.

Prices at 1up are just as bad, if not worse than eBay. And just a waste of time and money for collectors like me. For what it’s worth the store at least has some atmosphere and games set up to play, but inventory was nothing special and fairly small, especially for the prices they were asking. Experiencia fantástica: Fantastic customer service. My husband and I stop in a few times a month when we're in the neighborhood and almost always buy a couple of games. The employees are nice, selection is solid, and the prices are good. Recently we bought a game but when we got home and opened it we realized it wasn't the game it was supposed to be but instead 4 random discs that were useless to us. I immediately called and the employee who answered said they'd look for the original game and make it right the next time we visited the store. Due to holiday travel we didn't make it back in for a couple weeks and a different employee was working. I was worried that it'd been too long and they wouldn't honor the promise made to us over the phone, fortunately the employee working, Mikaela, turned out to be so helpful. I explained the entire situation, she was unable to locate the game we'd thought we bought so she gave me a full refund and a discount on a replacement game. I really appreciate that she made things right, she was apologetic and took responsibility even though she wasn't the one who made the mistake. I def appreciated her help!

Experiencia positiva: Really happy this place exists and it fits perfectly in the midtown vibes. Record shops, boba, coffee, comics and now retro video games! There are also new video games, though the main attraction is seeing games from previous eras. They keep the good stuff behind the counter. Some key RPGs and a surprisingly ample collection of PS vita games. I think the biggest collection was PS2. The only reason why I put down 4 stars is because there still a lot of unsorted games behind the counters. They need more display space. Once they have that up, then it’ll be great. Still absolutely worth the visit though!

Experiencia fantástica: Calling all geeks lol.Pretty cool store. Big video selection. Everything from Nintendo, Sega, Playstation and basically every gaming consoles ever made lol. The inventory is constantly changing so you never know what your gonna find . They have random odds and ends like plush toys, stickers, etc. They resurface game disks for $4 bucks if you have a game that doesn't play anymore because its all scratched up, they can fix it. They repair, buy, sell, and trade. The 2 young men at the store were really kind and very knowledgeable. They had an answer to all my questions. Experiencia positiva: In terms of service and variety of console, this place almost has it all from NES to the Xbox one and knowledge on all as well. They have an impressive variety of games as well but if you are looking for a very popular game from a console, you may see yourself paying a hefty amount or seeing that it is not in stock. Although do not let this discourage you, as I am only a college student and do not have the correct knowledge to appraise game costs. I saw go in and look around because the store is quite neat and interesting. Would recommend.

The owner is great, prices are fair and they get the biggest turnaround of any store I've seen. Always new stuff out, they get a ton of trade ins. Experiencia positiva: In Sacramento on vacation and decided to check this place out. Huge selection and cool atmosphere. However, I bought two games here and neither of them worked. The PS2 disc had tons of scratches, and the DS game was very visibly corroded. I imagine they don't really test any of the games considering the only two I bought were in bad condition. Returning the games was very quick and easy. If you are local, this place probably rules because returning a broken game is really simple, but I would avoiding buying anything here if you're from out of town.

Also, they constantly have card in their .25 cents box, but when you go to pay for them they tell you they were in the wrong place, and they end up being a few dollars, or even 10 or 20 dollars. Experiencia fantástica: Just came back from a stop into 1UP Retro to trade in a couple consoles, controllers and a game. Their trade in amounts trump Gamestop's. The process was quick and easy, and Travis was great to talk to! I wanted to spend more time in there but could not. Cool artwork, tons of games, cool arcade machines, and lots more. Experiencia fantástica: Travis is a great shop owner. There's is always a full selection and great store policy to be had for any issue products, more than other shops offer. He ensures that he takes care of his customers, and his store. I've had a couple issues with product, but it's nothing that hasn't been resolved. We are lucky as a community to have a great shop with an endearing owner.

Experiencia fantástica: 1-Up Retro is my family's favorite game store! We can find something for everyone and we always find a ton of good stuff. The employees are friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming. We enjoy the music. In-store events are also cool - we attended a game release and had a great time! Highly recommended if you're looking for retro - modern video game stuff.

Experiencia positiva: They’re very nice don’t get me wrong, but there have been many incidents where I have been told, “Hey, if you really need something from us it’s best you give us a call! Thanks man, have a good day!”, I got a call on a game that I have been wanting I called them to hold it for me like they said they would and I got zero calls back nor an answer. I love their hospitality and the way they make you feel that gamer nostalgia, but wish communication to these guys was better.

Experiencia positiva: New and old games, as well as rare ones. All at seemingly reasonable prices. 4/5 only because the staff is typically caught off-guard with general questions and doesnt seem to be as knowledgeable about games as you'd think someone selling 5-star rarity games would be. Aside from that, the atmosphere, collection, and overall friendliness of the staff is top notch.

Experiencia fantástica: If you enjoy the classics and newer games you should check this place out! The staff were super friendly and helpful, the selection was impressive (NES, PS4 and lots in between), and the decor was a perfect homage to retro gaming. Their used game prices are much better than GameStop, they do trade-ins, and they offer a 7-day guarantee on games. We’ll be coming back for sure!
