Experiencia negativa: This store takes no responsibility for sales. And they hide damage. It's just unacceptable when that's what you're paying for these days, buying things in store. ____________ I bought a pile of items, about 15 things. When I added them up when I got home, they did not add up to the total. I believe an item was left at the store. Unfortunately, I only had the total charge and the top half of the receipt (see photo), because that's all I was given. It was ripped in half. I called to ask about this, and was told they cannot help me over the phone. They said they do not keep their receipts. I called again, really trying to just discuss this, as honestly I presume nothing is wrong. But they could not help me without contacting IT and would not discuss my purchase over the phone. In 2025 this is ridiculous for several reasons. I presume nothing was wrong, but their actions have left me wondering if actually there is something wrong. We're talking about $8. They probably assume people will not trouble themselves to come in over this meager amount of money, and I will not. I do not recommend making purchases here. There are other options for this stuff in Chicago, that care about providing good service. This place relies on its good real estate and doesn't care if you come back. Update: after seeing my order aside and trying to talk with them for a week, I decided to keep everything. That's when I going the damage under a sticker, in a store that keeps their boxes of all prices behind glass. And another sticker literally did damage itself. They have stickers too. I saw them on other products. It's just so uncaring to the customers to not put them on a $16 item. See photos.

Experiencia fantástica: A breath of fresh air in this streaming world. My wife and I hated how our favorite movies kept moving around streaming companies so we decided to buy our own copies. They have an excellent selection, well organized, and the staff are all very helpful. A gem in the community.

Experiencia negativa: Really bad trade in experience. I brought items in midday and didn't get an offer until 24 hours later. They refused to discuss the offer on the phone. I got there to learn that they were offering me THREE DOLLARS for four brand new, sealed seasons of TV on Blu-ray and three DVD movies. Not three dollars each, mind you. Three dollars total. Oh, and thirtysomething cents. Can't forget those. Totally insulting. The only reason I'm not giving them one star is because the sales area is well organized, and the employees are just doing their jobs politely. It's corporate's policies that caused all of my headaches. Reckless Records is next door. Go there instead.

Experiencia negativa: Repugnent. Been going to Exchange since I moved to Chicago in 2019. Prices are not always incredible, but usually fair. That has clearly changed. If you're unaware, Pokemon booster packs are sold for $5 MSRP. What this store has done, is they have either opened product or ordered from the manufacturer so that you may have the wonderful opportunity to buy at 3x the standard price in their store. Yes, sealed Pokemon product is difficult to come by right now;, but Exchange has made the deliberate decision to prey on children and parents who don't know any better by participating in this gross scalping phenomenon. Don't get it twisted: Exchange wants to leverage your ignorance into more money. They are hoping you give in and pay them while adding zero value. They are gouging you, deliberately. Wii Sports, one of the most printed games of all time, being $55 and selling an empty case for $40 os just further proof they don't mind robbing kids and parents who won't know any better. I used to recommend this store to people in the city. Now? Ebay. At least I know there my money will go to a human, rather than the endless greed of this "small business".

Experiencia positiva: Came here to look for something, came in said hi to front desk and browse on my own and this blonde lady came up to me asking I needed help before I could even move down the aisle. Not even 5 mins later again comes to me again asking if I needed help. At this point felt kinda annoyed by the 4th time I felt like she was giving me attitude like if she was racially profiling me. Regardless I bought something even thought she literally hovering around me like cmon everything is locked up how you gonna act like I’m a criminal? I spent money here and guess what ! The controller I bought didn’t even work, tried connecting to 2 different Nintendo Switch’s and nada. Not happy at all right now.

Experiencia fantástica: A small section in the back for vinyl records but mostly video games and funco items. We did find an autographed Green Hornet book in a bin that I didn't know I needed and a few LPs. Staff was great and the store was clean.

Experiencia negativa: So I ordered two dvd sets and 19.00 bucks each so my total was 39.00 bucks and I'm taking them back one of this disc doesn't look right and I found them on another website brand new for the same price I find it crazy that I paid the same price for some used dvds and I can get them for brand new for the same price will be returning them and gonna order them from fye and get it brand new

Experiencia negativa: It's definitely a neat store. Lots of older video games and amazing stock. However, I would recommend thoroughly checking the item when buying from them. One of the Nintendo 64 games I bought was a reproduction version. I was warned of this and the guy knocked down the price. But I bought a second Nintendo 64 game that had 5 bad pins and in the worst condition for a game I've ever seen. No good way to get a hold of them besides going back to the store.

Experiencia negativa: Terrible experience. Liars and manipulators. If you don’t accept old game systems, just say that. I attempted to trade in a working Xbox 360. I specifically asked if they bought those and the guy said yes but he’d have to evaluate it, and it would be hours before he could get to it. I said, okay. I can come back. I get a call just before close that they made an offer on it but won’t disclose details over the phone. I also specifically ask is it worth me coming back. He says yes. The next day. I walk over a mile to get there and say they won’t accept it due to its “condition”. Refused to elaborate and when I said I don’t really want to haul it back, they won’t give me anything. He said we aren’t a donation service. Rude the whole time. No explanation. The console works when I returned home. Just don’t lie to people.

Experiencia fantástica: One of my favorite stores of all time. I have been shopping here since 2010. Video games, music, and movies. what more can you ask for? To top it all off, when you take something back you can get store credit or cash. People are friendly, great customer service, and fun. Hey, the people know me in the store.

Experiencia positiva: With an insane selection of games comes an insane markup on price. 10-30% more than eBay is robbery. Solid Staff here they're knowledgeable and down to earth. Strictly giving 2 less stars for pricing. Before I knew better I bought a childhood favorite of mine (Monster Rancher 2, Ps1) for $80 when it's clearly a $30 cib game. My fault for not researching but I was new to collecting at that time. Still should've never been priced that way in the first place.

Experiencia negativa: I used to hustle video games as a full time job and still keep an eye on game prices for my personal collection. FYI....This place is a total rip!! Go next door to Reckless Records instead for your video game purchases. I'm often in the area and always see what they have at the exchange. Mainly, I'll stop by to kill some time but occasionally I'll pick something up. It seems like they have everything priced pretty high because they know they're in a wealthier neighborhood and people will pay what they're asking. As I mentioned earlier. While their selection is a bit smaller, Reckless Records has some really cool video game stuff. There have been several times I saw a game at the exchange, walked next door and found the exact same game for 10-15 dollars less. Trade in offers....as expected....are extremely underwhelming. The staff is probably required to ask you if you need help as soon as you walk through the door. Personally, I find it to be weird and off putting. I'm kind of nit picking now, though. The exchange gets 2.8 out of 5 stars. It is what it is.

Experiencia fantástica: I was visiting town and dropped by here early in the afternoon. I noticed a SUPER good condition Backwards Compatible PS3 that they had just received from a trade in and I asked to buy it. They said it needed to be cleaned and tested first and to check back a bit later. After a few hours, I called back and they had not gotten around to it. I was leaving town later that evening and asked them to please try to have it ready for me. About an hour before closing time, they informed me it was ready for pickup. I got stuck in traffic on my way back and my ETA was a bit after close, but they stayed opened and sold me the console! Super awesome and friendly staff. Not sure of the girls name that helped me, but you are the best! Thanks so much.

Video games prices where in line with price charting. The selection was amazing from DVDs, CDs, video games, Pop figures, board games etc. It was a pleasant trip for quick visit while staying downtown on vacation.

Experiencia negativa: Awful Bargain, Don't Sell\Trade Here Long story short: they gipped me I came here about a month ago to buy a Wii to try out some old games [And gamecube games] l used to play with my family. Some worked, some didnt. The Wii was cheaper than the GameCube so I went with that. Came back to return it yesterday. It was a week after the 30 day policy, so they told me I wouldn't get a full refund. No prob. Since I brought my own games to sell [I Only purchased the Wii from them] I figured it would at least be half back. Guy behind the counter [Dreadlocks with one blonde loc] said he'd test them all & to come back later. l come back to find he only paid me back for MarioKart- which was no longer working- and wouldn't accept the other Actually Working games. He also said he'd give me $36 for the Wii and 1\6 games Didn't realize til I got home he only gave me $26. The Wii costed $85 btw. Not Cool. How is the GameCube more expensive than the Wii but none of my working GC games were worthy for a sell- but the no good MarioKart was worth keeping?

Experiencia fantástica: This store is SOOO cool!! As a horror loving individual, they had a plethora of horror themed items. My boyfriend loves DragonBall, tons of stuff for him. Video games galore! Even super old consoles. Unique Monopoly boards, Super Mario items, it was a great gem found on our trip from Michigan! The guy that checked us out was pretty rad too. Thanks for the excellent experience!

Experiencia negativa: Worst experience buying a retro gaming system. We got one Sunday night and the girls we so helpful. The first one we bought acted up so we returned it and got a more user friendly system. Then an hour later that breaks. After we had tried twice bought 500$ worth of games and controllers nothing worked. So I go to return it today and a different manager who couldn’t look me in the face or speak to me while taking 36 min to return everything. and they only refunded 360$. The associates are nice to mangers are rude. They systems don’t work and they will rob you of 200$ and tell you to leave. AVOID!!!

Experiencia positiva: One of the few places I can find that feels like a fun trip into the past while also having a modern feel to it. I managed to find items here that I enjoyed using. The people are also very kind and easy to talk to. If you need help finding something, they’re more than willing to help do so! One issue I had with this was the condition of some of the items I purchased. While I will give them the benefit of the doubt by saying it’s not entirely their fault, I still ended up returning the items for a small stocking fee. I almost felt bad doing so since they were so nice to me for having to find it for me when I called in advance for them. They were still willing to accommodate my request to return them without giving me attitude. Overall, I’d definitely come back here for the selection of items and people to interact with just to talk about games, movies and other related stuff!

I was helped by a gentleman named Tyler, who was legitimately the nicest person I had met all day :) Tyler helped me find a game, and for a good price as well, as well as explained all the different price points and conditions they sell the games at. Very helpful, I seriously can't say enough nice things about them. They have a good inventory with lots of variety, and reasonable prices, and if I lived in Chicago, I would 100% frequent this location for all my gaming and music needs.

Experiencia negativa: I'm changing my review to one star because of the rude, lazy, unhelpful manager. I could barely understand him because he mumbled everything and he gave no explanation for his delays in handling a trade/purchase (I had to wait 25 minutes at checkout with basically no one else in the store). I asked him specifically about one of the used products and what it came with, and based my decision to purchase it on that information. After purchase, I saw that the condition of the items included was not as he had previously stated, so I immediately returned the item. I was then told I had to pay a restocking fee because he didn't bother to look at what was included. He tried to get a couple of digs in like it wasn't his fault before he gave me the proper refund. The other 2 women working were very friendly, competent, and attentive. I genuinely liked interacting with them. The manager is lazy and a bad reflection on the otherwise great people working for the organization over the years at both locations. I can only imagine he was hired because there are labor shortages, because I can't imagine employing someone so lacks a days ago in any managerial capacity. Total lack of awareness.

Instead of just saying that, they instead went to "there are signs posted" and "we're not a rental store". I get maybe they get people trying to pull one over on them sometimes but you shouldn't treat everyone like that. I'm stuck with my $100 plus purchase but they also lost a repeating customer.

Experiencia fantástica: This is what GameStop is supposed to be. Packed with video games, old and new. From the new gen consoles all the way back to Sega Genesis, they have a ton of games. They also have accessories, vinyl albums, CDs, and DVDs as well. It seems that you can sell your old stuff to them too.

I exchanged some Euros for dollars at the highest rate compared to other stores that i had called them and asked for rate. Another best thing about this store is that it is open even on weekends. Experiencia fantástica: I use to pass by this place all of the time and always wondered what was inside. I only managed to stop by a few days ago and my inner child was racing. There were so many games and movies from my childhood the nostalgia was too much to handle. The staff was extremely nice as well. They were able to track down one of the very first PlayStation game I've played and got it sent over for me to pick up.

If it's your birth month, and you have their rewards card, you get a small discount on new items and a bigger one on used items. They let us take advantage of the discount because it was my birth month, even though I was signing up for the rewards card in store at the same time as I was making my purchase; very kind of them. Worth a visit, imo; they have a friendly touch that other places lack.

I wanted to trade in a new game that retails at $60 and they offered me $11 for it (in store credit) and then they would resell it at $50. That's a 78% margin of profit and 355% markup (much higher than GameStop)–I ended up getting $48 for it on eBay. Staff is hit-or-miss. One clerk mocked me for one of my purchases, but most people there are pretty okay.

What I love most is the real variety in most of their selections, and the best part is the sheer amount of used games they have. I've saved upwards of $200 dollars buying just used games from them. No real reason to go to GameStop or Best Buy (unless you want an exclusive). And I can't praise their music selection enough !

That is due to the poor customer service they provide. I have been in there more than 5 times and every time I feel like I am not wanted there. The people behind the counter seem as if they are disinterested in helping any customer. Their attitude is as if they feel like they are better than you and a "how dare you disturb me" type of attitude. I know I will not be going back there anymore because of this poor customer service. If any manager or employee sees this, please take note and adjust how your business is run. Treating people like they nothing is a poorly run business and a bad reflection on the franchise.

Experiencia fantástica: First you gotta know no Atari, NES, Dreamcast, and very few SNES games. But as for everything else they got it and more. CDs, DVDs, Blu Rays, and Vynal including consoles. Price wise it's fairly obvious by looking at the prices they are using some sort of guide. I would say their selection is pretty good over all. It's also the only store I seen to date that sells used Anime DVDs, there selection of those are quite excellent. So will I be coming back, yes in fact there was a couple of games I wish I brought the cash for, also a few Blu Ray discs that I been wanting for sometime, I also found and bought something Amazon doesn't even have the Cars movie soundtrack CD, complete with poster and it's in excellent condition.

You can also sell or trade in all those games and movies you haven't opened in years for some new goodies!
