Experiencia negativa: This has got to be the dumbest card store known to man. I walked, was completely ignored to the point where even when I asked for help it seemed like a bother. Nobody knows the price of anything, you have to be your own self help employee. They don’t negotiate price either on used cards. New stuff is 30-50% above market. SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE
We want to clarify a few points in this review, as some of the claims are not accurate.
Our store offers a $10 annual, non-recurring membership that provides set discounts on card singles. This allows us to maintain consistent and fair pricing for all customers. We do not negotiate individual prices, as not all staff members are authorized to do so. A standardized pricing structure helps ensure transparency and avoids confusion at the register.
Regarding trade-in values, condition is always a major factor. In this case, the cards brought in were heavily played or damaged, including a ripped Pikachu card, which significantly affects value.
We also reviewed the in-store interaction and confirmed that staff did engage with this customer while assisting others.
We attempted to reach out privately to better understand the concerns raised, but the customer declined further conversation. We respect that decision and remain open to constructive feedback.
We encourage customers with concerns during a visit to speak with a manager so we can address them promptly.

After inspection, our technicians found multiple issues that would have cost significantly more than the system’s value to repair. We explained this clearly during the evaluation. The system also had a roach infestation and showed signs of not being well maintained, which contributed to the overall condition.
2. About the $25 bench fee:
This fee covers the time and labor our certified technicians spend diagnosing a device. It is a standard, non-refundable fee that you were informed about and signed for at check-in. Even when a repair is not completed, our team still performs a full diagnostic.
3. Holiday turnaround times:
During the Christmas season we experience a very high volume of repairs. We work as quickly as possible, but we never rush diagnostics—especially when a device requires extra evaluation due to its condition.
4. Our goal:
We understand it can be frustrating when a repair isn’t possible, but we did provide a full diagnostic and communicated all findings before any fee was charged.

Experiencia negativa: Every time I come in here , the workers are always rude. Today I came in, she looked at me, I said “hello”, and she just walked away and didn’t say anything. Yet when other people came in after me as I’m browsing, she happily says “Hi, welcome in.” She kept staring at me as I’m walking around and it made me extremely uncomfortable, so I decided to leave, despite wanting to buy things. I love coming to this card store, but this is not the first time that the staff have been disrespectful and ignored me.

We appreciate all feedback, but let’s clear the air for anyone reading. This customer came in visibly intoxicated and kept us tied up for over two hours on a trade-in. He never gave us a straight answer on what amount he wanted, and every time we got close, he pulled out the good items and left us with the junk.
We even pulled up the prices on the computer in front of him—the total value was about $400, and most of it was dirty and needed cleaning. To say Game X Change gave $500 more is hard to believe. Two of our managers tried to work with him, but in the end, he snatched everything back and stormed out.
For everyone else reading this: we’ve been doing this nearly 15 years. If you mention a competitor’s offer or a number you’re hoping for, we’ll do our best to work with you. Unlike some places that give you one take-it-or-leave-it price, we actually negotiate. You can’t make everyone happy, but we’ll always work hard to be fair and transparent with our customers.

I started out purchasing in person @ the Gulfport location and after a few times, seeing the condition of the LP & MP cards, shows me they are tough on conditioning & what they take in to resale (in a good way) I actually order cards from the Mobile & Foley locations w/o fear of getting a damaged card & feeling ripped off. Shipping is not terrible but could be a little faster being I am in South MS, however minor price to pay to be able to have more peace of mind when it comes to conditioning & pricing

They completely restored it, and I mean completely. It looked and felt like the same one I used to play as a kid. As soon as I turned it on and heard that startup sound, it was super nostalgic. It honestly felt like I went back in time for a second. It meant a lot more to me than I expected. What really stood out was how personal everything felt. They didn’t rush me, didn’t try to push anything on me — just real conversations, helpful information, and intentional work. It’s rare to find a place where you feel genuinely taken care of, but that’s this place. If you’re into gaming, cards, or repairs, this is the place for you. Experiencia fantástica: This place has what you need. Plenty of collectibles, from western to Japanese, from Fallout to Evangelion. A large collection of all Nintendo consoles, with games and more. A shelf of used games at good prices, and some good phones. Their amount of controllers was good, and they had decent pricing for Nintendo and PlayStation controllers. Service is smooth and easily navigable. Here, I got an Xbox 360 and a little buddy for my friend. Couldn’t recommend it more.

Let’s clear a few things up: the prices you listed aren’t just exaggerated—they’re flat-out false. We track current market values daily, and while prices do fluctuate, nothing on our shelves has ever been priced like what you described.
Now, when we’re lucky enough to get Pokémon products at wholesale (which is rare these days), we actually lower the prices for our members to help keep scalpers at bay. But when we have to source from trusted third parties just to keep inventory on the shelves, prices reflect that cost. We’d rather have product available than empty displays—and most collectors and fans understand that.
So if you're upset about Pokémon pricing, your frustration is better directed at the supply chain, not the small businesses trying to make it work. We don’t print the cards—we just hustle to make sure our loyal customers can still find them.

We appreciate all feedback, but this comment is simply not accurate. At Play and Talk, we consistently pay more than 40%—often higher than anyone else locally—especially for high-demand cards. We're not a "scalper shop." We pay fair prices and sell at market value based on current demand and availability. When we get product at wholesale on release, we pass those savings on—often pricing lower than big box stores.
We also offer an easy, no-line buying experience with fair access for all customers. Yes, we require a free membership to help prevent resellers from clearing out inventory—but it keeps things fair for actual collectors.
We take pride in our pricing and our community, and we welcome anyone to come in, compare, and see the difference. We're always happy to show what we offer and why so many people choose us again and again.
Experiencia negativa: Went in today to trade in a ps5 with 2 controllers. They opened it up to inspect it it was a little dirty and signs of a couple dead bugs. Ok I get it, it's old never been opened the person there was like the most I can off is $20. I denied it took it home broke it open cleaned it up a little and traded it in at another game store for $200. $20 bucks was a joke because all they would have done took it to the back broke it all the way down cleaned it up and sold it for a lot more then $20. Update To give clarity on response, I got there a few mins after 11, gentleman said trade in I said yes he said come over here I did, he said how much you looking to get I said what y'all offer for a ps5, he broke first top white panel off was like dirty. Then broke other panel yes I'll will say there was three dead roaches by fan. He turned asked the lady we want a ps5 with bugs she never answered he went to drew by cash register to get something to break the tab off where the fan plugs into lady walks over he says it has bugs i haven't broke the tab yet she was like no need the best I can offer is $20 I said no I'll just go home and clean it. Now it's 15mins home not 10mins. Next I never said I broke it completely a part like y'all would do I said I broke it down cleaned it a little. To go over what I did is I took both white panels off took fan off and broke it open a little to remove what dust and bugs I could get out wiped it down a little and put it back together. So that should give some clarity to you saying live bugs, and I completely cleaned it. I like to use y'all because usually y'all match or offer more then game stop so I drove out my way to give you business. And it was a little over a hour before I made my post.

When you brought your PS5 in, we opened it up for a routine inspection — and what we found wasn’t just a little dust. There were live roaches inside the system. That’s not just “dirty,” that’s a health and safety issue for our staff and store. Because of the condition, we respectfully declined to take it in.
You then asked, “Well, what would you even give for it?” — and we answered $20, based on the system needing a full teardown, deep sanitization, and potentially only being usable for parts. That was not an actual offer — we had already told you we didn’t want to purchase it.
What’s even more interesting is that this review was posted less than 10 minutes after you left the store. In that time, you claim you went home, fully cleaned the system, drove to a different store, and sold it for $200 — all before hitting “submit”? That timeline doesn’t add up and comes off more like an attempt to damage our reputation than share an honest experience.
We take pride in what we sell. Every system goes through cleaning, testing, and comes with a warranty. We don’t cut corners or put other customers at risk. If another store was okay skipping that process, that’s their choice — but it’s not how we do business.

Experiencia negativa: I have been coming to this store since they have opened, and have bought and sold many games and consoles over the years. Today, I went to sell my PS4 console that I bought from them, and it’s sat in the same condition since purchase. They refused to honor the trade, and I explain to the manager, Ron, that I’ve never had issues with this console. They loaded up a disc and told me it didn’t work, when I have never had issues with the disc drive on this console. This interaction has me befuddled, and melancholic, and I might not ever return to this business again. What’s even crazier about this situation is I brought the console home immediately , and I loaded up a copy of Madden 20 for the PS4, and the disc drive worked. So , I’m not sure how to feel about this. Just very upset, bad business. EDIT: This is my second review of this business, and it’s still not good. In January of 2025 , I brought my 360 that I purchased from this place to have my Xbox looked at as I didn’t have a power cord for the system, and I had a disc that was in there for quite some time. The repair guy comes back and tells me that my disc drive is broke, and needs to be replaced. I took my console and left, and about a month later was able to afford a new power cord for the system. Upon powering the system up, I found that there was never a problem with my disc drive. I’m not sure if the repair guy was trying to get me to pay for the replacement just because, or if he didn’t know what he was looking at. My system never had any problems to begin with, so it’s just confusing that they would tell me this. I’ve had many good experiences with this place, but this certain situation is troubling to me.

Experiencia fantástica: Recently took my iPhone in to have screen replaced for a crack and the employee saw right away it was the plastic guard over the screen that was cracked and not the screen! Promptly replaced the guard for much less $ than a new screen! Super nice folks.

Experiencia negativa: BUYER BEWARE! They sold me a bent rookie card. I returned to the store within 15 minutes of purchase when I noticed the bend. They charged me a 15% restocking fee which is ridiculous. They knew the card was bent and told me it was sold "as is". I would go somewhere else if you are looking for a reputable dealer.

Experiencia fantástica: Love this store, I frequently visit to pick up some Pokémon booster boxes and I’ve always gotten insane pulls from them, pulled the alt art moonbreon from the last booster box I picked up there. Staff is always super friendly as well, and they generally have a really good selection for cards, games, statues, collectibles etc. I’ve seen people griping about some of the prices but I don’t think a lot of people understand that at the end of the day it’s a business and the seller needs to make money as well, and a lot of the Pokémon cards at least are the Japanese packs, which means they’re probably paying an extra penny to import them. Regardless, if you’re into nerdy stuff in general this is the place to go to. Their bigger store across the bay is also awesome as well. I’d recommend both.

Experiencia fantástica: AMAZING!! The selection at this location was absolutely fantastic I am already a huge play and talk fan especially the Gulfport location and this one may have taken the cake. Somehow they put twice as much good merchandise in a store half the size of the Gulfport location, the choice of video games here was fantastic with everything from Dreamcast to PS5. They even had the newest releases which I was so excited to see as I was hoping to pick up a copy of Metaphor. Overall just know this is the spot to go for classic and modern games and just an amazing location to go for all your favorite game and anime needs.

Experiencia negativa: Ron the Manager at Play & Talk is a bully. My daughter and I went to look for an iPhone , our initial experience with staff was very pleasant until the Manager, Ron wanted to be a jerk and flex his seniority in front of everyone. When I asked for his name so that I could share this experience he did not want to provide that information, however all other staff provided their names willingly. Then he eventually came from the back of the store and loudly stated his name. Then trying to state all the store policies regarding purchasing an iPhone over $600, well keep the phone and you just lost our business and it was the most expensive phone in the case. I normally don't do reviews but this one was necessary.

Experiencia positiva: I bought a PSA Grade 10 Shining Fates Charizard Vmax from them a few weeks ago for $400 before taxes. I don't know how often they update their card prices, the price tag had a date from back in 2022 I believe. So I take the fault for not checking prices online before hand, but I was excited to get my hands on it. After checking, most of them on Ebay and other sellers are going for $150 to $200, and that's for a grade 10. So I feel a little ripped off, but you live and you learn. Still a solid card overall.

Experiencia negativa: I bought an iPhone 11 from them and the battery was seriously degraded. They wouldn’t replace with a new battery. Play and Talk does NOT stand behind their products and sales. Edited to reply: No one cussed you out. Calm down grandpa. I don’t have a receipt. No one keeps receipts. I do have a credit card app and can show you where and when the phone was bought or you could ask the clerk that helped me. It’s pretty shady to not replace the battery BEFORE you sell the phone and all of this could have been avoided. Also, pretty sure I was never told about your ridiculous mandatory receipt policy

When you requested a return, we asked for a receipt, which is necessary as proof of purchase in accordance with our store policy. This policy is clearly posted at the front of the store and printed on every receipt to avoid any misunderstandings.
We also remind all customers to keep their receipts in case any issues arise, so we can promptly assist with repairs or exchanges. Unfortunately, without a receipt, we cannot process returns or exchanges as we need to verify the purchase.

Experiencia fantástica: I just went in for the first time a couple of months ago and the staff has been very friendly and knowledgeable every visit. I'm mostly interested in more retro games and their selection is diverse, clean, and well organized. Clarence got me signed up for a membership to get the discount on used games so it's already paid for itself (Clarence is the GOAT!!). The other game stores around, which shall not be named, are either very unorganized or the employees seem like they don't want to be there so it's definitely a beath of fresh air. Even though it's about a 35-45 minute drive for me, I'll gladly drive past other stores to give Play and Talk my business!
