Fantastic experience: Went to get my an old DVD restored that was super scratched. It could have not worked but wow. When I got home it Played ! It worked. Definitely recommend this place! I also bought a cool 64. Nintendo game!

Positive experience: Lots of old reasonably priced video games. They also have some consoles and handheld game systems. They have a lot trading cards too.

Fantastic experience: A great place to browse cards, owner's very knowledgeable and a blast to talk to!

Miguel Mathews Posted on Google 1 month ago

Negative experience: Called to ask about selling some cards the clerk who answered the phone cut me off twice with attitude then said they would pass without caring to hear what I had or anything literally 15 seconds of his attitude without any provocative. Very disappointing I will never have need for service like this.

Retro Next Door

We actually did hear you out on what you wanted to sell, you told us you wanted to sell some psa 10 cards, we don’t really do much graded so we informed you that we would hold off especially since you stated you’d be driving from out of town. We mostly lean into singles due to the fact that we don’t feel we have the strongest customer base for graded cards. I’m sorry if you were cut off, we were busy in the store and I needed to return guests inside the store. Sorry for the phone call coming off like that and I hope you find a shop that is interested.

Fantastic experience: Love visiting

Randy Attar Posted on Google 2 months ago

Fantastic experience: Had a nice selection of retro video games. Everything was in great shape with decent prices. Defiantly heavy on the Pokémon cards so for any collector looking for a hidden gem it’s worth the drive. Located on the back side of the shared building with all the businesses

Fantastic experience: My favorite store in Salem! :^)

John Bliss Posted on Google 2 months ago

Fantastic experience: 10/10 best shop around. Brought in some pokemon cards to sell and they gave me a more than fair offer for them. They’ll check the current market price for them on the spot so you know you’re getting a good offer. They price better than anyone else in Salem. This is definitely going to be my go to shop moving forward.

Angel Mayse Posted on Google 3 months ago

Fantastic experience: No sale pressure, they were kind and patient while I picked out cards. They let me go through their pokeball cards and I was able to get what I needed at a good price. I was also able to trade for a few cards, I will definitely be returning!

Fantastic experience: Hello, son of the mother of this account, I love coming here for games and Pokémon Cards, unlike Gamestop who charge me 5 dollars for cards I'm looking for, I got the cards that I was looking for here and only 1 dollar each.

Video Game Reviews Posted on Google 9 months ago

Fantastic experience: The owner seems like a nice guy, who is a true fan, and not just in it strictly for the money. He offers very fair rates for items you're selling, compared to other brick and mortar stores. He is selective about what he'll buy, but I certainly can't blame him for that.

Zachary Moore Posted on Google 10 months ago

Negative experience: No cleaning service for ps4 and ps5

Retro Next Door

We have never advertised ourselves to do repairs or service people’s consoles? We are just a store to buy or sell

Tim Johnson Posted on Google 10 months ago

Positive experience: Cool selection of new Pokemon singles

Lexi Vaughan Posted on Google 10 months ago

Fantastic experience: Visiting from Orlando, FL, and we wanted to find some cool card shops to visit. Came across Retro Next Door, and we had a great time in the shop! A lot of really cool, reasonably priced cards, and Cent was very nice. Even gifted us one of the game posters on the wall! Bummed that were from out of town, otherwise we would come back all the time!

Alex Grosser Posted on Google 11 months ago

Fantastic experience: They had a ton of games and some really neat Pokemon cards.

Kody Johns Posted on Google 11 months ago

Fantastic experience: Prices are insanely fair. Also the guy working was super knowledgeable. Thanks to them I got a copy of Kirby's Air Ride. I hope this place is here to stay. Wish they had more Seag Saturn games but that's a tall ask lol.

Negative experience: Hard as hell to find, for starters, online says they open at noon but don’t count on it. No signage anywhere outside the building to suggest it’s actually WAY INSIDE the 45th parallel, which has plenty of bathrooms, you need a code for. Super unimpressed and won’t be back. Went way out of my way to only have to leave disappointed. Maybe shopkeeper should update important information about business hours if they want to continue to get them. Thanks for wasting 2 hours of my day

Retro Next Door

I’m sorry about the situation with the signage, that is reserved for outward facing units so I can’t really do much about that, our website does explain that but I understand it’s a bit wacky. The bathroom situation is also out of my control, that’s up to the owner of the building, there was homeless issues so they had to do that. I got here 10 minutes late and I’m sorry about that but I’m not sure where the lie about 2 hours comes from.

Stephen Cole Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: If no one's there, they might be dropping the kids off at the pool. Give them a few minutes. Also, don't worry about the reviews, the worker here is super nice. They don't want to offer you a low price when they know you can do better somewhere else. Also, pay attention to the name!!! It's RETRO Next Door, not PS5 Next Door....

Retro Next Door

I was in the restroom sorry about that

Alex C Posted on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: The two workers there seem lazy like they just wanted to get through their shift I had to greet them. What’s up with that?? lmao they didn’t even bother looking at my video games Nerdy short looking dude with glasses just looking for his preferences on videos games you can tell he’s one of those I think i know it all geez either way I took my games to another store where they offered me $60! which I thought was a crazy good deal considering They were older games I’m glad you didn’t take them either way you did me a favor!

Retro Next Door

Sorry you didn’t enjoy your experience but as we told you, we don’t really want to be buying Xbox one games and ps4 games especially sealed ones. We are allowed to decide what we are interested in buying and what we are not interested in. You called our store asking if we buy games and the whole time we said depending on what it is and we can’t guarantee we’d be interested. It also turns us off when you say you’ll break the seals of the games in our store if we can’t buy sealed games since we know that’s GameStops policy so you clearly got turned away from them too

David K Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Great variety of Pokemon Cards with a lot of knowledge. Also about an even amount of vintage games going back to the NES system. Was difficult to find as it is in a doorway area for the 45th Parallel. No signs on the outside of the building to show the store is there.

Arayah Simpson Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Best shop around to get pokemon cards.

Justice Stacey Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Super cool little game store! Has a bunch of games for different systems, lots of consoles, and a ton of pokemon cards! They also will resurface disc's for a pretty low price, and the staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable! Definitely my go-to game shop in salem!

Tyler W Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: One of my newfound pleasures of Salem! Great help, selection, and customer service. Pricing is very decent, highly recommend if you are into retro games.

Alex Mendez Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: A great gaming store for anyone looking to boost their Xbox/PS2/PS3/X360 collections at very reasonable prices. I was impressed to find some hidden gems here that I couldn't find anywhere else in Oregon and the owner was very helpful in getting me checked out. It might not have the deepest library of videogames in Oregon, but it's definitely worth checking out for anyone who enjoys 6th/7th gen games and also enjoys Pokemon cards.

Brandon & Jessica Jackson Posted on Google 1 year ago

Positive experience: Selection is good staff is friendly but this is the third time we have come at opening and stood waiting to get in and it's not 5 or 10 minutes but it's currently a Saturday and 12:31 in the afternoon... My kids love the store but the Tardiness of the business is hard to deal with.

David Webb Posted on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: 10/13/2024: went to the store today around 4 and they had left to go to the movies. Why have store hours if you can’t follow them Original post: Great store, but every time I go at 12 it is closed and I have to wait about 15-30 minutes for them to open

Retro Next Door

on 10/13 we did not close to go to the movies, the worker left a note that they went to the gas station market to grab a quick lunch and that they'd be back in no more than 15 mins. I saw the note on monday and can see there was sales after 4 so that part of the review is not really factual

Blake Basargin Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Has a great collection of games and consoles with the gamer aesthetic along with Pokemon cards. Clearly has the passion, Owner of store runs more then fashionably late on several occasions around noon. 5/5 stars for great passion in the nerd community. I do love the disc buffer, does a fantastic job getting rid of shallow surface scratches and the owner is nice to his customers. Great job

Retro Next Door

sorry that i run late sometimes, i live over an hour away from salem and sometimes there are things out of my control like today on august 1st there was a semi truck that caught fire, caused a ton of traffic on highway 34 and the entrance to I5 which held me up a lot, on top of that these past 4 months i have to run errands for my mother who broke her leg and ankle back in april and she also runs businesses so I have to run errands for that before i come to work here. I know its not a great excuse but definitely living over an hour away plus having tasks that temporarily i have been given does not add to how easy it is to be super punctual and I understand that and appreciate you at least giving our store more chances after seeing that. Will try to be better and sorry about all the inconveniences.

Jace Race Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Great selection of games and consoles, as well as other collectibles such as Pokemon cards! The owner is knowledgeable and passionate, always ready to offer recommendations or chat about gaming history

Hoshiko Rose Posted on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: Kind of overpriced. Why would I waste 40 min of driving to and 40 min back for over ebay prices?

Retro Next Door

Sorry you didn’t enjoy the prices, we price exactly at what eBay prices are, I’d consider that market not “over priced” we do have things like overhead to be considering unlike eBay sellers and we also try and offer fair prices on stuff we buy which also means we can’t really be selling for under market. Sorry you didn’t enjoy the visit but we really do try our best as far as prices

keno Posted on Google 1 year ago

Negative experience: Prices are absolutely terrible, don’t be fooled by a retro nostalgia resale store they know nothing about what the have, all they know is “we can make money selling old games” . Also these fools have maybe the worst trade in credit ever I’m talking worse than GameStop, I wouldn’t recommend this store to anybody with a working brain. Don’t support this excuse for a game store.

Retro Next Door

for context, this person had come into my store and I had told him the price we were willing to pay, he negotiated and i agreed with what he asked. He then tried to say that the price i gave did not include his corroded gameboy but it did in fact include that. I told him that the price i was offering was already the best i could do and told him id hold off if he wants more for the gameboy, I told him that he can return the money to me and i will return his items to him and he refused to do that. I am not sure why he would not take his items back if we offer less than gamestop. We have a lot of reviews of people say that we pay fair and i also do believe we offer the best prices in salem but also some of the better prices in the state, i think the constant flow of inventory would also reflects that. WOULD GENUINELY love to know why he did not take them to the other retro video game store in town or gamestop if we offer so low.

Riley McClarin Posted on Google 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Been here many times, these guys are the absolute best game store I’ve ever been to! They have a great selection for any game console you can think of, very competitive pricing as well. Owner is great as well, do all your retro game shopping here!

Angelyka Cava Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Cool store! I definitely saw some retro games here being sold for pretty cheap prices, I got Final Fantasy IV on Nintendo DS for $25 which I thought was nice. The place can be a little bit hard to find and it's on the small side but so worth looking around. The owner seems friendly and calm, I went in once while someone who didn't know much about video games was trying to argue with him, but he held himself together well. Good return policy and customer service. Probably a good place to check out every so often.

Katelyn Carver Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Excellent store! Great spot for Nintendo and PlayStation games. A little disappointed with the Genesis selection, but that's the market. Did find a CIB Genesis game that I didn't have, so very happy with that. Definitely recommend and will be back myself when I'm in the area.

Marina Leigh Posted on Google 2 years ago

Positive experience: Shop is cold and dark, employee there didn't seem to know what anything was, shop is way out of the way and in a location that makes very little sense.

Tristan Ritz Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Good selection of games in good condition. It's my go to place for games!

Derek Joseph Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: I bought a ps2 from this location, and it barely worked. Making very loud noises, and I had to restart the system multiple times just to get it to work with any game. They offered to give me a different ps2, but when I buy.. it has to be mint. I just wanted a refund, but the person was very short with me and said, "Come in, and we will see what we can do for you." really fast. I said, "Okay", and they hung up as fast as they could. No I'm sorry for the inconvenience and no explanation. I will never return there again. Keep the overpriced $120. I'm a collector, and the only reason I paid a premium was because it was mint on the exterior. I can't believe they would sell a system that is broken. Do they even test their systems? Who knows. I'm sure they will say we test all our systems before we put them out for sale. Well, you definitely didn't test this one that sounds like it has a chainsaw living in it when you turn it on. Response to owner: I said I never tested it until I took it on a trip as my traveling ps2. You saw that in the other review. I also said in both reviews that I tested multiple games on it. My games are near mint. These are all games that I play regularly on my home ps2. All these arguments are just strawmen. I knew they were coming, though, after reading the other reviews you responded to. It's pretty clear that you think you know everything, and the customer is only right if they sing praise. I'm no idiot and I've owned many PS2s in my lifetime. I'm no liar, and I take care of my consoles with great care. I keep them in original boxes or ps1 traveling cases. Your man on the phone was super rude to me. Maybe he is you. Either way.. you don't know how to treat a customer. The proper way to respond is, first of all, you're sorry and that you want to make things right. Whoever it was on the phone was super quick with their words and obviously annoyed (very unprofessional). Much like I was when I found out the playstation was broken after not trying it for a month. I just trusted you guys and that was a mistake.

Retro Next Door

Sir we literally said bring it back and we’d give you a different one and then you asked for cash so yes I said bring it back so I could check it out and see what the best course of action would be. We aren’t going to pigeon holes ourselves into a refund if the console is working fine when you bought this close to 2 months ago. There is several things that could be the issue like possibly scratched games. If you look at the reviews you’d see we take care of our customers. You also left this same review on our other locations page and didn’t even reply to us for 3 weeks when we said we’d make it right in that review.

Cover Person Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: I went in to check it out what they had. And woah I was blown away at the prices, and they had a good selection. I wish they had more GBA games but I can tell they are doing their best !!! I will be coming back

Halloween Surfboard Posted on Google 2 years ago

Negative experience: Somehow managed to quote 15% less than GameStop offered for the same exact items for an in store credit trade. All three times I’ve tried shopping here they’ve been entirely uninterested in doing business quote from one visit “nothing moves out of the store so why would I want to buy more”? Stick to Game Crazy for local Retro Games

Spencer Dahl Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: The worker was very friendly and informative. We received very fair trade in value and they have a very large stock of retro games.

G Cox Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Went here. Totally worth it. Tell him what you’re thinking. I told him I was just thinking about the Gamecube Pikmin. He has 48 unopened copies. Wild.

Fantastic experience: Great place to find used video games and consoles! Great prices and friendly staff.

Jeremy DeGuzman Posted on Google 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: I was looking for a retro video game store in town and was specifically looking for Xbox and Xbox 360 games. This store had a great selection of games at great prices. I went in just planning to look and ended up walking out with 6 games. The employee there was very helpful and friendly and he clearly knew his stuff about games and provided recommendations. I hope to see this store succeed and get more and more business because they deserve it. They have social media accounts and even a YouTube channel which is really cool because it’s a cool way to get to know a local business a little better.

Fantastic experience: Every single time I swing through Retro Next Door in Salem it's an incredibly pleasant and welcoming experience. The owner is an incredibly educated and kind person who gives great deals, and puts his items at a fair price. For all your video game, pokemon card, or Disc resurfacing needs make sure to check out Retro Next Door! I never do business with any other brick and mortar because why waste my time when I've found a great one already!

Sarah Mallory Posted on Google 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Easily my favorite game shop I've ever been to! My first time here a few months ago I bought a wave bird for my Gamecube. The shop owner, Cent, took apart 5 separate controllers to build me the perfect one! They even have TVs and consoles set up so you can test out controllers and games before you purchase. No more having to take someone's word for it, they really take pride in their stock here! We were also able to snag a hard to find jrpg for one of my collecter friends. It was in beautiful condition, and he absolutely loved it! We were finally able to make the 2 hour drive out here again and we definitely did not leave empty handed! I was able to buy 2 of the games from my wishlist, and turns out their shop in Eugene has a third! We brought more friends this time and they had a great experience as well. They bought a copy of Pokémon Silver for the Gameboy, and Cent replaced the battery right there in the shop. To sum it up, the selection is great, the prices are right, and the customer service is out of this world. Most shops you're lucky to get just one of these qualities, but all three? Definitely worth the drive, and we'll probably be heading to their Eugene location soon!

Fantastic experience: A little difficult to find but person on phone gave great instructions to find way in. Very clean store and pricing was more than fair.I will come back.

Fantastic experience: This place is really great, a little hard to find and honestly not really advertised, but the staff is honestly more friendly than any game store I've ever been in.... they have Ebay Prices which I think is amazing! In fact ive never seen that before.... overall a great experience.... if you're stumbling across this store from a google search like i did... Go There! Its a great Store, Great Vibe and awesome shop for gamers who actually play their games

Logan Stewart Posted on Google 3 years ago

Positive experience: In the confusing liminal space of 45 parallel is a Wonderful Retro store. The staff are friendly and helpful. The prices are terrible.. But every retro console is being sold for 200 dollars now a days so The prices aren't any different than ebay.

Erik Chavez Posted on Google 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Very nice place helpful people enjoyed my visit plenty of selections.

Nicholas Ohren Posted on Google 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Found this place online, checked it out and was pleasantly surprised. A wide variety of games from a wide selection of older consoles at fair prices. Even found a few hard to find games. Will definitely be checking them out again.

Addison G Posted on Google 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Went back for the 2nd time in probably 5 months. I wish I came down to Salem for this store more often as not only have they grown in great inventory, they also have a very nice staff, and they were very helpful yesterday in making sure my Nascar 2000 disc, as well as Namco museum and gran turismo and frogger disc's were removed of scratches. I will be coming more often. I hope this store eventually becomes a successor as it being new and already very good with prices (VERY).

Ruben Sanchez Posted on Google 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: I went in looking for a Star Wars Wii videogame. I was impressed by the selection of older videogame consoles and videogame collections. The owner of the store (He preferred to be called "Cent") greeted me on my way in. After some time browsing, he walked over to me and helped me find what I was looking for (Lego Star Wars Saga). While I was waiting to be rung up at the front desk, I talked to another customer. The customer and I got along well, especially after Cent joined in on the conversation. The store has a nice, quiet, and friendly atmosphere. I went back to the store soon after to sell my used videogames and used videogame consoles. While I got a good deal for most of my used videogames, the store would not take my used videogame consoles because I didn't have complete sets (console, power cable, av cable/HDMI cord, non-third party controllers). Still, I will be coming back. Also, the store has an Instagram account (retro_next_door_salem), which uploads what new inventory that they recently received in.

Joshua Bathke Posted on Google 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Super grateful for these guys! Their service and know-how is very helpful and they go the extra mile to make sure their customers are happy. I was missing a power supply to an older console and did some calling around. Turns out Retro had a few at a good price but they were closing soon. They ended up staying up until I got there after hours which helped out a lot. Even made sure to connect the power supply to be sure it functioned just fine. Definitely made a customer out me, I highly recommend these guys!!

Jay Kinsley Posted on Google 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: hard to find the place because there's no exterior signage, you have to go into the building and look for it. but it's a rad little store with lots of cool inventory.

Fantastic experience: This place is the best I got a Wii and 4 games. Also got 3 Wii controls and 3 nunchucks for like 30-25 buck

Fredy Posted on Google 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: Awesome selection of old games, consoles , and handhelds. My son and I loved this store and found everything we wanted.. would definitely would come back and recommend to anybody. Can't wait to see you guys get bigger. Just one thing please make a big ol sign that shows how to find your shop in the sketchy wearhouse. Otherwise totally an swesome store and awesome help from workers that really helped us find everything we wanted and gave my son a great prices.

Mr. Hadouken Posted on Google 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: It's nice to have a new store open up around the area. The owner is a good dude who does care for his games. The place is new and is starting out but you can tell the skeleton and strong foundation is there. Can't wait to visit it more in the future.

Aloidia Posted on Google 3 years ago

Positive experience: Really great vibe with games ranging from the game cube to ps4 games. A bit pricey but they're flexible with their prices in how much they can bring the price down (it's not a best offer). They clean the disks up before handing them off and allow returns for games that don't work since they are unable to test them themselves.

Fantastic experience: Love the store, amazing inventory. Good prices and they pay very well for trade In’s.

Neanderthal huck Posted on Google 3 years ago

Positive experience: As far as cartridge games go, eBay prices without the selection. Wouldn’t return. I can get a better selection from home. Competitive pricing would bring me back.

Retro Next Door

sorry you did not enjoy the visit but in the modern day a store matching ebay is pretty reasonable given that most stores have a "store tax" and we also need to worry about people coming to our store just to buy and resell the games they bought from us. you also asked for 18 dollars off of 88 which would be 20% off and that is rather steep of a first time customer to ask for, 2 of the games you wanted would have effectively been free. We did counter with a 10% discount but you did not hesitate in declining that. You also said sidequest had better prices than us which was also inaccurate, the zelda you got from us for 35 they sell for 45 and the other games were the same as well with only one being 3 dollars more. the inventory for SNES and NES is lacking and I did admit that to you, we try our best to source inventory and we pay fair so that we can try our best to have good inventory. Sorry that you did not enjoy your experience but I don't agree with our pricing not being completive, if locally we have the best prices, the stores in portland you named are also more expensive on 3/4 titles and we match ebay and even offered 10% off. I feel that would be defined as competitive

Fantastic experience: Found this neat retro video game store on a random Google search. Has a nice variety of retro stuff from nes, n64, ps1, ps2, and GameCube. Been here a few times and prices are reasonable with more than fair trade in prices!

Fantastic experience: Best retro game store in town, no question. They're new and they've already left their competition in the dust. Great selection, awesome trade-in pricing, and friendly staff. I'll undoubtedly be a return customer.

Fantastic experience: Super nice owner, and good prices. Newer shop that has alot of room to grown and gives really good trade, and cash value for games and systems. If ur looking to buy, sell or trade they will hook you up. Shop is a little hard to find but it's inside of the mall structure. Look for one of the doors that leads into the halls and not the outside shops.

Retro Next Door
