Fantastic experience: Calico Games gives me nostalgia. A kid roaming through the aisles looking at the back of games without a smart phone and hoping the game is good. The building is small, but has a lot of retro games, but plagued by MLB, NFL, FIFA, etc games(All retro game stores are plagued by these).Gotta scan through them and you might hit a banger. Prices are good, not scalper level. They price them depending on damage level and what's missing. Pictures are from Mira Mesa, Escondido and Vista locations.

Fantastic experience: First time visit. Picked up some bangers for my personal collection. Great staff, helpful with my questions and concerns. Awesome selection of video games and accessories. They had some heavy $$$$ titles in stock too. Stop on by if you have the chance!!!!

Fantastic experience: I find mint hardware here and at other locations. It was more affordable and like new. I recommend buying from Calico Games stores across the county, over shopping online, if ever possible. I went through 5 rusty xbox returns with 2 big online retailers that let me down. THEN I went to Calico Games and the console was there on the shelf like new. Exactly what I wanted.

Fantastic experience: Best retro gaming store I’ve ever experienced. Not sure if it was his store by the gentlemen helping me was an encyclopedia of gaming knowledge and had all the answers to my questions and trust me they were almost endless. I coulda stayed there all day talking pokemon GBA games but they were already 10 mins past closing time. He didn’t make me feel bad at all for being there late and was instead welcoming. He was such a nice guy that when we left my gf and I went to Starbucks and we both wanted to grab him one for the help. lmao. We didn’t bc they were closed and that’d be too much but he was that COOL that we at least contemplated it. The store had it all as well. 10/10 will be back. Thank you.

Fantastic experience: I've found the most rare stuff at this location.

Negative experience: I went there twice the first time was good the second time was not good because my family went to return a game and the game could be returned like two weeks but the worker say no it’s one week which even not a good thing because that’s isn’t a lot of time because there may be people that are busy and have to go to work I know the workers are working but that is bad working and being rude to a customer is unacceptable and I’m not trying to say to stop shopping there I want to tell out my experience of bad service I would rather buy like old games with my money some where else

It is a family owned business and it’s very professional and if you can’t find it, they will help you find it even recommend different places. If you’re looking for a certain game or console, doesn’t matter they will help you find it and if they can’t they give you recommendations of places to look, I give this place 10 out of 10 !!! I will come back to this place!

Fantastic experience: This is a great retro game store. The selection is huge given how small the store is and spans all your major consoles. Loved the spread of Nintendo games by the counter. The prices are very competitive with what you find online and often beat them out (including shipping). They also carry accessories like travel cases. In the middle of the store are a bunch of anime and pop culture items. In addition to games, they offer services like replacing save batteries. Employees are nice and happy to answer questions. The employees at the counter always let me browse at my leisure. Love that San Diego has such a good retro game store! Selection updates every day, so I recommend making regular visits to see what you can find.

Negative experience: I have been here twice. First time they wouldn't stop unpacking boxes to give me any time. Second time minimal time. I felt like I was a bother. I will spend my money elsewhere.

Positive experience: Lots of types of games for different consoles, and a reasonable selection for each. The games I bought worked. There was a return period in case they didn’t, but the staff tested them when buying them.

Positive experience: I was only looking for a charge cord for a Sony PSP. They also had replacement battery packs (3600mAh). Ended up leaving with cords for Gameboy Advanced and Gameboy 3DS.

Fantastic experience: Wonderful staff, great prices compared to other retro game stores. The staff also is pretty knowledgeable about a good variety of their stock. The major thing that impressed me is the guy (i’m so sorry I forgot your name) who replaces the internal batteries on GBA games. For a couple bucks he was able to restore 3 of our pokemon games internal batteries. Which is a service they offer!!! I asked about it when I bought a copy of pokemon silver, and he let me know, if you give them a heads up that you plan on coming down to get the service done they will be able to help out. I suggest calling a few days in advance so the guy who does the replacement can bring his kit in. My partner called prior to coming in and was informed how many batteries can be replaced as they were running low at the time. Overall my favorite place to frequent with my friends and partner.

Fantastic experience: I do not recall his name but an associate fixed the internal batteries of our Pokémon GBA games at a very fair price. Although he was busy with customers he handled everyone with excellent customer service and did a great job with our internal batteries! With great customer service, product, and video game knowledge this is definitely the place to go for all shopping options!

Fantastic experience: I live in Chula Vista and I normally go to Luna Video Games since there is one local, but I was in the area last week and saw Calico Games and decided to check it out. So happy that I did!! When I first walked in, I immediately noticed how clean and neatly organized everything was. I also noticed the rep welcomed me in immediately while helping another customer. Once the rep, Andre, was done, he comes to tend to my needs. He was VERY informative in the games themselves (you can tell he’s a true gamer), whats in stock, and the brands/consoles. Once I chose the controller I wanted, without me saying anything, he noticed that it wasnt as clean as it could be and also cleaned it for me. 10/10 service! Will definitely be coming back even though its more of a drive.

Fantastic experience: Very clean nice store! Has pretty much all your gaming needs at a reasonably to very good price! Very few selections for newer games but the selection for older classic games are HUGE! Cashier was also very friendly and helpful, I HIGHLY recommend this place if you're looking for that one hidden gem or if you're just gonna browse around.

Fantastic experience: A good place to sale your old games and find old games. It is not like the main stream video games store. That when the video games are to old they quit buying and selling the games. I am glad I found this place.

Fantastic experience: This place is great, a huge selection of games from semi-modern all the way back to Atari generation. Prices are reasonable and every game I've bought from them has worked. You can even find things like old Nintendo Power magazines from the '80s. Wish I'd found out about these guys sooner!

Fantastic experience: A great local retro video game store - providing niche and hard to find games. This is one of their 3 locations here in San Diego. This is the closest one to me and I frequently visit a couple of times a month as their selection and inventory constantly change. Fairly active on their Instagram as they post the latest trade-ins for sale. Pricing is fair and on market value. They do trade-in which you can either opt for cash or in-store credit. Store credit can be used at any of their 3 locations in San Diego. The staff here is friendly and knowledgeable and variety of selection of games and consoles will have you grinning with joy. Photos they have plenty of n64 boxed games.

Positive experience: This place was so helpful and so patient with all my games I sold them. Very professional and friendly. They made me feel so comfortable. So I went back the next day and dealt with a guy named Eric who was just as friendly and patient with giving me estimates on all my games. So I definitely recommend this little spot to everyone!! Fantastic experience: Calico Games has been my store of choice when it comes to video games. The staff is very friendly and help make great suggestions for games you might've not though about playing before. The retro game selection is enormous with games and consoles from all generations. While prices have risen on various things likely due to COVID or for other reasons, the prices are still very reasonable. The staff don't harass you to join a membership or to pre order select games coming out; Instead you're free to walk through the selection of games available at your own pace with help from the staff only if you need it. When trading games in, you get more bang for your buck with Calico Games than you would at a corporate interest like GameStop. I wish I could give six stars, but I'll settle for five.

Fantastic experience: A nostalgia trip back to memory lane. They had all my childhood games and systems. I had to buy my first Christmas morning videogame that I opened up when I was a kid in 1989. They are friendly and very helpful and always have great stock of games.

Fantastic experience: This is a video game store. The staff is very knowledgeable about all the games and game consoles and are very polite and helpful. It is my grandson's favorite store.

Negative experience: i waited 15 after 12 and the working was about to open the door but he apparently left the keys somewhere else and left so now i have to wait more. i don’t recommend this place at all. bad service edit: it has now been 25 minutes, will not be coming back here anytime soon, and now he came back and left again guess he got the wrong keys again ‍♀️

Fantastic experience: This place rocks! I cannot say enough good things about this place, it a nerd heaven. The staff was very knowledgeable across multiple platforms. The store is clean, laid out well and everything is in alphabetical order. They have a 7 day return policy on used games, if you get home and something doesn't work. They had a huge selection of retro games and systems so we picked up some new to us Gamecube games. If you're into retro gaming, this place is for you.
