Fantastic experience: Please come here it's amazing for retro games. Every worker they've hired is either hilarious to talk to, superior knowledge on retro consoles and niche games like Illbleed and haunting ground or will help you with everything instantaneously. I've never had a bad experience here outside of other customers being kinda creepy but every time the worker helped mellow it out. That's not their fault I think it's just a Lafayette on a weekend fault to be honest. I believe it's Angelo but shout-out to my fabergé egg friend in being such a shining light in the world. He also has the same memory I do where he remembers conversations really well so it'll be months and he's like so Faberge eggs lol.

Fantastic experience: Angelo was amazing when greeting me and told me about the amazing deals they have! He was so honest and nice and honestly deserves a raise. They did amazing in helping me find a game perfect for me!

Negative experience: Went in for some older games and picked up a copy of Ghosts N Goblins that they had in the display case. It was the filthiest game I've ever had misfortune of buying. I had to clean and repair it before I could even try it to see if it worked.

Fantastic experience: I am usually not a fan of "game stores," as they tend to charge way too much for way too little. It's actually to the point where I don't even stop at them. Well, yesterday was a little different. It was me and my fiance's anniversary and we went up to Lafayette for the day. After hopping a few different places ( pawns and thrifts ) I saw Play N Trade on Google Maps here. I'm usually skeptical, but I figured we'd stop by anyway for the fun of it. Walking in was wall to wall games— pretty typical for a store like this, kind of the point. Though, what really amazed me was the prices. Legitimately, everything I saw in the store was well priced— actually amazingly priced considering how stingy and overcharging game stores can be. I was gawking at the prices honestly. Near the counter, they have one of those 3DS and DS holders GameStop used to have, talk about nostalgic. As well, they have a ton of different trinkets ( blind boxes, keychains, plush ) that I assume are imports because they're too cool to be naturally sold in America. Now, for the best part of the visit. With their membership, I managed to pick up a CIB ( complete in box ) copy of Pokémon Black 2 for $161. It's an amazing price for a horribly priced game. I've been trying to find White 2 or Black 2 for forever for my collection, and I've only ever been met with misery. Being able to pick it up in person and examine it gives way more comfort in such a pricey purchase than an "add to cart" does on eBay— who knows about authenticity at that point either. All the people there were incredibly kind and helpful, a family with kids were in front of us and the worker was super attentive with helping them while others kept checking on me and my fiance. ( We were standing around because I wanted to see Black 2 behind the counter haha. ) Also, please get their membership. It was a one time fee of $10 for 10% the purchase we made, as well as cutting off cost from the games we got. Think like GameStop's old reward program except it expires in the year 5000, apparently. I think this is a must visit if you're a lover of physical game media or looking for something specific. Please excuse the picture not showing the front, I need to clean some sticker residue haha. P.S, you think I can still get Genesect even if the distribution ended in 2012? Maybe if I ask nicely.

Negative experience: I was told that the cashier didn’t have time to plug my used ps3 to make sure it worked before purchasing it because he was alone and there was a line behind me. As the consumer, that isn’t my fault that you’re short staffed. And was pushed to side and made to wait to finish my transaction. This is totally unprofessional and he seemed very perturbed that I even asked to plug it and make sure it was working. If I was already in line then why wouldn’t my transaction and my needs be finished.

Negative experience: I went into the store I pick a game i wanted and anorthern couple came in and they where at the register as I waited anorther customer came in an ask about a Nintendo like no one was in line as the cashier stop helping the couple and started help the lady I stood there 7 minute while 1 cashier talk to the couple about nothing then the other guy continue to help the other customer..so instead of going off and tell them hello are Yall gonna check me out I throw my game down and left I want be back sad customer service

Negative experience: I purchased a “New” Nintendo 3DS from this seller, but once I got home it was obvious the system was not new at all. The L and R buttons had grime and signs of wear, and the console was already modified with Luma3DS custom firmware pre-installed. A true brand-new 3DS would never come pre-modded or dirty. This is misleading and dishonest to customers. If you’re going to sell used or refurbished items, label them honestly. Selling a used console as “new” is unacceptable. I will not be buying from this seller again. Update What I received was actually a Nintendo 3DS LL, which is the Japanese import version, and not even the New 3DS model the owner claims I bought. I asked the clerk if it was new, and he didn’t explain the difference he just said yes and that they “just came in.” I was excited because I thought I was getting a clean, unused 1st gen 3DS system, not a used and modified import with visible wear and Luma already installed. I know the difference between the 3DS family models, and the owner trying to make me look uninformed in his reply isn’t cool. I would have been totally fine buying a used or imported system if that had been communicated clearly. The only issue was that it was represented as new when it was not. Leaving this review so future customers know to ask questions and get full info before buying.

Fantastic experience: Cannot give a good enough review the lady that closed last night Rochelle was absolutely Beyond helpful and kind. She was polite and sweet to the customers before me. She was more than enough help with my game console that I turned in. We talked for a few. She’s an absolutely wonderful person. When I was signing the check before I left she offered to help with my son who’s autistic and no weird comments or remarks about my sons stimming or behavior ( it happens more than you think with a Special Needs toddler ) Just holding him and playing with him and was super gentle with him !!! She walked us out and she was beyond kind and helpful and great person to talk to will be coming back soon!!!

Positive experience: Pretty good service, wish the consoles and games were cleaned and inspected better. But can't complain being it's the only retro game store in the area

Fantastic experience: Went in yesterday and truly every employee was just so kind. Everyone had a great recommendation of games. I was able to choose at least five new games for each of my consoles recommended by different employees. Jeff personally came out and helped me just because he had the time Jeff is the owner by the way, and every selection was reasonably priced and I was able to even sign up to be a plane trade member And now I And now I can save money on every video game purchase I make I will no longer be ordering from online or getting video games from any other store because the selection was so great as well The toys and the movies I actually ended up choosing about three new DVDs and me and my family are gonna have movie night soon and watch the new movies I got

Positive experience: Good store but please please please play test your games before putting them on the shelf, to avoid situations like mine. I live in Arkansas and stopped here while visiting family and purchased a game. Obviously I wouldn’t be able to play it until I was back home 9 hours away. When the game didn’t work (and the issue is with the disk I was sold not the consoles), they of course couldn’t refund it even if I mailed it over to them, because like I said, I’m in another state. This is why testing your games before selling them is important, to avoid situations like this. If the game had been tested beforehand it would’ve been obvious that it shouldn’t be sold. So now I’m down 10 bucks and can only get a refund if I spend money to mail it to a relative over there then have them drive over to the store. Test your games. (Edited to 4 stars because yeah, when you put it like that I can see why testing all the games isn’t possible)

Fantastic experience: Below market price on most things. Thank you so much for the honest business practices. Got two classic Dreamcast games and a controller for the price of one new game.

Negative experience: They had my game for cleaning for 30 days. I was told 2-4 weeks was the time frame. I called once a week for an update. I was never given anything other than the tech has it so it will in the next few days. After 24 days I was told the tech tried to call with no answer two days prior (no missed call). Gave me a new price and again said within the next few days. On day 29 I went there and got the same answer finally day 30 they called saying it was ready. Yes the game works fine. Service and communication sucks! Time frame is ridiculous since the man told me the cleaning takes only a few hours. I will not return!

Fantastic selection of the older rarer stuff, great wishlist system for whenever they don't have what I'm looking for, and the discounts are better than every other place I've tried. Staff always super friendly and knowledgeable. Highly reccomend checking them out

Fantastic experience: We absolutely love this little local store. They have games from every era.... even atari & N64! Our xbox took a dump so we dropped it off to get it fixed! They also have arcade games in store for only 25 cents to play. The staff is also very nice, patient and knowledgeable. You'll never go back to GameStop.

Positive experience: Decent little gaming store, I have found numerous good pickups here. Every now and then you come across a gem. Pricing is a little high, but that’s okay because they are very easy to work with for returns/swaps if something doesn’t work correctly. That added security is worth the few extra dollars! They are open at convenient times unlike other game stores that shut down at 5. I have 2 complaints that I feel management needs to address. 1. Store policies seem to differ from employee to employee. Everyone is confused on the buy one get one policy. Some employees allow the more “rare” games to be sold because the store still makes a good profit, while others insist that they can’t do bogo on certain games. I end up getting stuck waiting for them to all group chat and discuss pricing, which leads me to my 2nd complaint. 2. There should not be any guy one get one game exclusions, and if you wish to exclude than maybe you should work on a lower percentage multi game discount for rare games. Simply excluding specific games entirely seems unfair to repeat customers. A used game is a used game. If I’m purchasing a game in the case that costs $100+ I should be able to pick another game in the case at half off as the sign on the door does not have any exclusions as it sits. I’ve spent a LOT of money in this store and it would be nice if the store would honor the BOGO on all games, especially for customers who frequently support the store. As much as I want to leave a 5/5, these issues need to be addressed and unified among the staff.

Positive experience: Not very friendly/eager to help

Negative experience: Last time I bought a console there I had to by the controllers separate. Went in to sell a system and they wouldn’t buy it ONLY because certain double AAs fit in the controller and other brands were loose. They said it was probably from using it too much but I’ve only used that controller a handful of times. They wouldn’t buy the console without the controller. So, I have to buy both a controller and a system separate but they won’t buy anything separate? Been coming here for years and this really threw me off.

Negative experience: **NOT BLACK FRIENDLY** The employees here are always disrespectful towards Black customers Let's go over what I have seen over the many times i've ben here - Older Black woman shopping with her son or Grandson The Employee (long black ponytail, and glasses) spoke to this lady like she was not worth the air in the room simply because she was trying to understand what the difference was when buying version of a game for her son. - 3 younger Black kids walked in (Manager immediately tails them all around the store but never actually interacts or speaks to them, clearly thinking they are trying to steal with no evidence - They will refuse to speak to you no "Hi welcome to Play n Trade" no "Can I help you" none of that. Just because they need you to know they don't truly want you there Fine by me, Never getting a cent from me again

Negative experience: Everytime I come here I wish I had gone to the Carencro location instead, even though it's inconveniently out of my way. The guys here aren't even subtle with the profiling. Will be finding a new game store because who has the time and patience for the disrespect

Fantastic experience: Fantastic location with a great selection of more obscure/rare titles. Prices are always fair within the market. They offer Buy 1 get 1 50% off on most titles which can score you some additional deals. Staff have always been knowledgeable and friendly. My only complaint.... they are 3 hours away and only pass by when in town for work.

Fantastic experience: I love this place. I been here since I was a kid. But know I am an adult. They do great work over their. My playstation 2 game was scratched and it wasn't working. So I called the place and they repair my disc. I never saw one scratch on it. So it means that I went home and turn on my PS2, and put the CD in. It finally worked. Thanks. You guys are awesome.

Negative experience: My PS4 stopped reading discs, so I took it to Play N Trade. Two weeks go by and they say "we don't know what's wrong with it, we can't fix it." Which is ridiculous because the part that needed replacing would take 3 minutes to replace. I would have done myself but a how to video on YouTube swade me from doing so.

Fantastic experience: Great game selection, friendly staff, but don’t bring a game console to be repaired, you will be told it can’t be repaired, but they offer repairs on certain game consoles. Sometimes you just need an explanation why it can’t be repaired. Just ask and you’ll get your answer....

Fantastic experience: Best place around for retro games, retro game systems, accessories, and the newest systems. Spent the past 10 years buying, trading, and selling with #PlayNTrade; since before my kids could see over the counter. 10/10 and for us gamers during #socialdistancing this is an absolute necessity. Super sanitary, max 10 customers, everything gets wiped down, gloves and Facemasks for the staff, reminders to keep 6'-8' apart. Having a kid at home with heart issues is tough and the team at Play N Trade Lafayette remind me of the team that we started with back in #WoodstockGA; always helpful, knowledgeable, and the best around.

Fantastic experience: Lots of games for sale for really good prices. I always find something good here. They did a repair on my PS4 and I couldn't believe how fast the repair was and knowing what is involved in the particular repair I needed and the speciality tools and skill required to execute it I am very very pleased with how much they charged. Everyone is friendly and they're open late. Good central location in town with plenty of free parking and easy to get in and out of. I am not a gamer and this is a place I feel welcome at. Like I can just come and hang out and whatever.
