Retro Shark Gaming: Opiniones
Experiencia positiva: Very original type of store
Thank you, Mickey! Let us know how we can earn those last two stars!
Experiencia fantástica: This place has the nicest staff as a woman I feel comfortable and not talked down to here. Highly recommend to come here for trades and the game system case.
We're glad to hear that, Brittany! Thanks for the review! We appreciate you.
Experiencia negativa: Extremely hard to get any help with the cards or get anyone to acknowledge your presence while waiting patiently. Extremely discouraging would love to do business, but after many times of waiting to be helped while the store is dead and not getting any acknowledgement after 20 minutes infront of the card section. I simply can't support coming to an establishment anymore that doesnt support or recognize a repeat customer or value my time. Very sad
Experiencia negativa: Still Terrible. I know where the SHARK comes from in their name. I have been going here every week for over year, since I work across the street. I sometimes buy, sometimes don't. For the first time I decided to trade in some games for credit. I brought in 12 games a mix of PS2, PS3, 360 and Wii games. They kept them for the weekend and when I came in to finalize the trade, there was about 6 they didn't want and the remaining they would give me $3 for. Yeah, about 50 cents per game. I decided not to trade since I can make 200% more selling them on Facebook. I wasn't expecting to leave with a stack of games so I didn't bring a bag to carry them in, when I asked if they had a bag I could have, they said yes, for 5 cents... yeah, no. Game collecting isn't fun anymore. Everyone just wants to gouge you; everyone wants to flex about how much they paid for that ultra rare game. It's not fun. I am going to just buy reproductions off Ali Express from now on.
Experiencia negativa: I thought this place is gonna be pretty cool. From the outside it looks like a really nice trading card store. However I don’t know what they’re doing on the inside. You have to use a kiosk in order to get pricing for the cards which I find is weird. If you wanna look at the card and the condition, they don’t hand the card to you they have somebody model show it to you. No offense, I have kids that know what they’re looking for and how to handle cards better than some of the people in the side there. Not worth the time. Don’t get me wrong. They have a good selection, but they’re just gonna send you to TCG player not sure why but that’s what they do. I think the store needs to revert back to you some more traditional methods of showcasing cards. When somebody’s looking for $100-$200 card they want to be able to look at it. Feel it make sure that there’s no divots. I don’t need it modeled to me. Save yourself some time go to another place.
Hi Kenneth,
As of right now, we have over 240,000 cards in our inventory. The kiosk is our display for in-store inventory and is not "just TCGplayer". TCGplayer just provides the UI and makes in-store pickups from online orders possible. Kiosks are needed for stores of our size, so that we can provide larger amounts of product for you to peruse, while also showing price and conditioning information.
Our staff is specifically trained to condition cards based on TCGplayer guidelines, as well as how to handle them safely so that the conditioning isn't changed. We are always happy to show you the cards under a light, so you can see the card and it's conditioning yourself, which you described as "modeling", but to reduce potential damage and excess handling, only our trained staff may touch cards prior to purchase.
This is the most consistent and efficient way we've been able to expand our available inventory for everyone. If you have any questions about how to use the kiosk, or any other feedback/questions regarding the card handling process, please send us an email at [email protected] We'd be happy to assist in whatever way we can.
All the best,
Experiencia negativa: Extremely unhelpful employees. Call and ask if something is in stock? Can’t be bothered, you’ll have to look it up online. Come in store and ask for something ? They’ll point you to a computer so you can do it yourself. The funniest part after they make you do their job, they somehow still have the audacity to charge over 30% market value. They obviously do not get proper distribution so they clearly resort to clearing out and up-charging local stock, most likely the Winco and Fred Meyers they’re conveniently located next to. This place is an embarrassment.
Hello. I'm sorry you're upset! Are you talking about prices on tcg singles or sealed product? We only have single prices in the computer, and sealed we should be able to provide an answer for. I'm assuming singles. For singles, we charge a mix of Market price and current listings. We use Tcgplayer to automate the pricing and don't set it ourselves. If something is over, feel free to alert us, because it's probably an error and we don't want it incorrect either! And because it is singles, our singles kiosk is often in use and our employees are unable to access it to provide pricing. We're working on getting another kiosk to alleviate that.
We have multiple distributors. We only purchase from them and from trades that come in.
Thank you for your review and have a great day.
Experiencia negativa: I'm never going to that place ever again. I tried to trade some games in for cash. 2 PS2 games, and 2 GBA games. However, my games have been rejected. They said we can't take these games in. And they call themselves a retro gaming store where you can buy, sell and trade your games in. Turns out they're all liars. Thx a lot Retro Shark Gaming.
Hello Andre, We take in items on trade daily. We aren't obligated or required to purchase everything that's brought into us for trade though. As we explained in-store, we may deny games for a variety of reasons, including condition, quantity we already have in stock, or overall value. I'm sorry you were unhappy with your experience and that we were unable to make an offer on the items you brought us.
Experiencia negativa: I bought a DS game I already owned accidentally, and due to work schedule was not able to make it in before their 24-hour return window. As such my only option was to "trade in" the game I just bought, and had not even put into my system, and only got $3 in cash or $4 in store credit for it, despite spending WAY MORE than that when I first bought the game.
Hello,
We have 2 sections of our return policy. The first is a 24hr window to return for any reason for store credit, the second is for 7 days if there's something defective, also for store credit. You came back in 8 days after your original purchase.
While the $3 in cash and $4 in store credit are our normal rates for trade on this value of game, we made an exception and actually gave you more than the original $4 offer because of the situation, which you used to buy another game.
Have a great day.
Experiencia negativa: Another customer lost… I’ve always loved coming here—taking trips down memory lane and sharing my childhood nostalgia with my own son. Sadly, this last visit will be my final one. About four months ago, I bought a game from this store, took it home, and it didn’t work. I came back roughly 15 minutes later to exchange it for store credit, following their policy. At that point, I asked a simple, reasonable question: moving forward, could games be tested before purchase so I wouldn’t waste my money again? I was told a resounding yes! Fast forward to 12/30/25. I walked into the store with my 5-year-old son to buy him a LEGO Batman game for the PS3. When we reached the counter, I politely asked the “manager” if the game could be tested—just to make sure it worked. After disappearing into the back for a few minutes, she returned and said they were too busy and didn’t have the time. That response said everything. As someone who’s been a regular all of 2025, I apparently wasn’t worth a few minutes of basic customer service. The body language, the tone, the lack of care—it was all incredibly discouraging. I didn’t feel like a valued customer at all. I felt like an inconvenience. It’s hard not to believe the real reason games aren’t tested is because refunds aren’t the goal. Instead, customers are pushed back into the store to spend more money under a rigid “store policy,” regardless of whether the product actually works. This may be long-winded, but the takeaway is simple: this store doesn’t care about keeping loyal customers. They’ve lost mine—and they’ve lost a Sunday night MTG Commander player as well. I genuinely wish this experience had been different. I really do.
Hello, we’re sorry about your negative experience.
We’re happy to test a game sometimes when we’re not busy. Unfortunately, there was a large line behind you and many other customers in the store. The manager offered to test it after we were no longer busy, or to take your information and test it and call you back as soon as we had the opportunity. You declined all of these, though, and that’s okay. But it’s holiday season and there were lots of other customers who also needed help. We spent multiple minutes trying to provide a solution. We certainly don’t want you to feel like an inconvenience.
We test many games. We also visually inspect every single one and re-check discs many times throughout the year to make sure of quality. We also broadcast what our return policy is and have it on the receipt as well as sitting on the counter where people are purchasing their items. I’m sorry you don’t like the policy. It’s not at all meant to push people back into the store.
Are you sure you also aren’t thinking of a different store that agreed to test things for you prior to your purchase? You gave a description of the person who said this, but we haven’t had anyone that matched that description in multiple years.
If you are a regular on Sunday, you’ll know we care a lot about our customer base. We close the store down for retail but remain open for a free to play community night. We also often provide food! We do this to show appreciation to our community.
Experiencia fantástica: Very helpful and great customer service.
Experiencia fantástica: We love it! Here! They have the greatest pop characters to collect and the vibe is good
Experiencia fantástica: Just a great den for geeks. Lots of little collectibles every where. If you like mtg or any other card games you can probably get it there.
Experiencia positiva: They have very nice employees and they have me good service they have a wide array of magic packs but when I sold some of my old switch games to them I feel like the price they gave me was very low but overall I’d say it was a good experience I will probably sell my cards and other games somewhere else but i definitely recommend going here, the prices are a different story, they are a lot more then other game stores I’ve been to
Experiencia fantástica: 5 star review they where so nice and i bought two cards from there the only problem was there wasn’t that much Pokemon packs just cards but over all 5 star review
Experiencia negativa: Got me confused & wasted my time. Priced a box of cards on Friday (by a male staff), only to come back 2 days later, on a Sunday, to find out that they couldn't then sell the cards in boxes (by a female staff). Wanted to support local business before online store & was going to buy 10-12 boxes if they had them in stock...
Hi there, We're sorry for the confusion. On Friday when it came out, we had boxes for sale. Stock on Riftbound diminished very quickly and we no longer have boxes to sell. Product is very limited on Riftbound. We are hoping to get more in and to be able to sell full boxes when we do but we're uncertain of when that might be.
Experiencia fantástica: This gaming store is AMAZING! They have great prices and awesome employees.
Experiencia negativa: The entrance seemed pretty accessible to me but they took my cards I was trying to sell and told me they would have a price for me the next day I came back the next day and they said it wouldn't be ready for a couple days??
Experiencia negativa: If you want to sell your cards do not come here. They offer a range of 15%-70%. I dropped off approximately $350 worth of cards (around 10 or so in total) and waited about a day and a half to have them valued. Upon returning to receive the offer, I was presented with an amount that was 40% of the cards market value. The cards were all in great condition with no damage. I proceeded to take them to another local shop that instantly valued them and offered 65%. This review is only regarding their practice of buying cards. If you have cards you want to sell theres many other places that'll provide 60%-75% of the cards value and also wont have you wait in a queue just to be scammed.
Hi Kyle, We check each card individually and make an offer based on their value. The higher value the card, the greater the percentage we can offer. Was your offer at the price in credit? Our standard offer is cash, and our offer to you was just over 50% at what the cards were valued at. The numbers that you quoted are about what we would've offered in credir.
We have many individals who bring us trades and expect their stuff to be done in timely fashion. In order to assist everyone efficiently, we do trades in order and we may need to request that trades be put into queue. We do not take any product until after a person agrees to a price. There is no way for us to "scam" you in this process. As you mentioned, you declined and your cards were returned to you.
Experiencia positiva: This place is super cool, must see to appreciate. Very friendly and helpful staff. Check them out!
Experiencia negativa: my husband and i used to frequent this store before our experience several months ago. we purchased a dvd set that ultimately was not functional. when we brought the dvd set back to this business, they made us wait in the store while they checked to see if we were lying about it’s functionality. however, they also clearly did not prioritize checking the functionality because we were waiting at least 20-30 minutes before they let us know they were finished verifying it was indeed, not functional. it’s a bad look to treat your customers like liars when you’re the one who sold merchandise you didn’t properly vet. even after all of that, they also only offered us store credit. needless to say, they lost our business. if you’re looking for retro games stores in the portland metro area who will value you as a customer and respect your time i can highly recommend hawthorne game exchange and video game wizards.
Experiencia negativa: Way Over priced. Just buy your used retro off eBay for half the price. They also won’t do simple repairs which should be standard at a USED video game store. They don’t even fully refurbish their used consoles, they just blow them out with PC duster and resale them. You’re better off buying one half the price on eBay and cleaning it yourself if the seller hasn’t. Do better.
Hello Sir,
You called us about modding your console which is not a "simple repair".
All of our consoles are fully tested to ensure they're in proper working order and also provide a 14 day defective warranty on consoles and controllers. This isn't something you can get from ebay.
We have a thorough cleaning process we use for consoles and while we do have a vacuum/ blower as part of that, it is not the only part of the cleaning process. We do not offer or advertise repair services currently and it's not a "standard" service for a retail store.
All the best,
Experiencia negativa: Hardly "retro" if you haven't heard of an Intellivision before... instead of finding out what I needed you just mearly said that you don't have it. Not sure how a "retro" gaming place isnt able to help me... Good Luck
Hello C, You reached out to us by phone and it was difficult to hear you so we asked some questions for clarification. Once we understood that it was for the Intellivision, we clarified that yes we did know what that was, and gave you options based on the information you provided and the types of cords and converters we have in store. You stated that those options were not what you were looking for and insulted the person trying to help you. We have many different parts and pieces for many consoles in existence, but it would not be possible for us to constantly stock every type of piece, for every console that ever existed. I'm sorry we weren't able to assist you with the specific part that you were looking for, and I hope you're able to find it. All the best,
Experiencia fantástica: Good selection of DS and 3DS
Experiencia negativa: I will never do business here again and highly recommend nobody else does either. I went in to buy a Super Nintendo Console and a few games. They were charging half of what most are selling for on Ebay. My first visit of the day I spent nearly a half hour standing at a locked case being ignored by every employee there. There looked to be more employees than customers and none of them would acknowledge me. The only acknowledgment I got was when I left and someone hollered "Thanks for coming in." I returned hours later to be ignored again. But finally after my wife locked eyes with a guy and loudly asked if I could get a little help someone finally came over. I asked about the console and was told everything is tested and verified yet when I brought it home it didn't work at all. No picture, no audio. No money back either. Store credit only. So now instead of saving $100 by buying from them its gonna cost me an extra $200 because now I have to buy from someone on ebay who no doubt will sell a far superior product than they do and since I have no desire to step back into that store I'm just out my initial investment. Maybe I could just take that pane of glass for my $100 in store credit and save future customers the trouble of trying to find an employee willing to do their job! My recommendation is Video Game Wizards. 2 locations, way more selection and way better service
Hello! I'm sorry shopping here wasn't to your satisfaction. Threatening to break the glass of a small business seems pretty unnecessary, though. I understand your frustration, but the credit back only is something we make known at the register. We're sorry that doesn't work for you, but we established that years ago due to other circumstances. Might I suggest you spend the credit on one of our games? We have them for the Super Nintendo.
I'm also deeply sorry the console didn't work. I am unsure what happened. We obviously don't want to be buying non-working stuff ourselves. The console was on the trade log and marked fully functional. Again, deeply sorry.
As for you feeling ignored, we've been in the process of training a number of new staff members. We take customer service very seriously and endeavor all on staff to greet and assist as quickly as possible. We were busy at the time of your shopping and staff probably assumed you were still browsing.
I apologize your time in here was a hassle and we wish you nothing but the best.
Experiencia negativa: How are you going to run a business where you sell cards but you won’t even let a customer inspect them? You do on the spot condition checks which takes so long, and then price them at a terrible price. Customer service is horrid. Hire people that actually have passion about what they’re doing.
Hello,
We do allow customers to inspect cards prior to purchase and we have individuals available to show and adjust the angle so that it can be fully examined. That being said, we don't allow individuals to handle the cards directly before purchase, as any additional damage caused during interactions becomes our responsibility and can cause the value of the card to go down.
Most of our cards are preconditioned. You may be speaking about the pricing process which can take some time. We agree that this takes too long and are working on getting them digitally input so that there's no delay in finding out prices.
We price based on prices shown on TCGplayer. This is a standard market process and is practiced by most in the business.
All the best,
Experiencia negativa: I went to buy some singles and they will not let you check if thr card is mint or not and trust on them. Very dude and mean of a costumer service and still expect for us to trust their grading services. Avoid the grumpy female that thinks she is making you a favor
Hello! Yes, we don't let people hold the cards. A lot of these cards can get really expensive, and unfortunately we've had people accidentally damage them or go to walk out with them. We do our best to work around this, and have staff who are happy to hold the card and move it around so you can see everything, though!
Experiencia positiva: Great for buying. Not great for trading.
Hello! Could you explain what was wrong with your trading? We are open to feedback and do our best to make it a smooth experience for anyone who brings stuff in.
Experiencia fantástica: They offer top dollar for used gaming consoles/games. Check this place out you won't regret it!
Experiencia fantástica: Great hobby store with ample room to play board games or tcg's. Oversized chairs accommodate players of all sizes.
Experiencia fantástica: Great place to find older games and consoles. Plus toys and accessories.
Experiencia fantástica: This is my number one, absolute gaming stop spot. They honestly have everything you are looking for. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and very nice. The store is always stopped and clean. There is some one always willing to help or answer any questions. I never feel rushed even when I have no clue. What i'm talking about?Someone behind the counter knows exactly what I am talking about hahaha. Love coming to this place and highly recommend anyone. Looking for retro gaming apparel.
Experiencia negativa: We used to trade in our items all the time. They were always courteous and gave us fair prices. Recently we too some Sega Genesis games to sell. When they looked at the items one of the guys said oh wow I had this as a kid it was one of my favorite games. They said they would evaluate the games and give us a call. There were 2 or 3 in the cue so it wouldn't take too long. Hours turned into days when we went in to get our money they said there was no game in the case (for the one the guy said he played it as a kid). This is totally wrong because he opened the case saw the game and commented on it to check them in. Our only conclusion for this is that he lied and kept the game for himself. He stole from us. We will never trade at this store again. Unless he makes it right and apologizes and pays us or gives us back the game. They know they stole it and they know who we are.
Experiencia fantástica: Stopped in to look around. A very large game store with Magic, Pokemon, D&D and many boxed games. A large play area and very friendly staff. Nice store.
Experiencia negativa: Usually i like retro, but im not very happy with the scalper pricing for the final fantasy pre-release. I called around and realized they double the price on everything compared to other stores. I dont recall them doing that with lotr.
Experiencia positiva: I do really like this shop for all that it offers. Between the vintage and newer pokemon card collection, video games, Funko, board games and rad collectables, it's a fun shop to visit when I'm back in Gresham. One thing I will say is appreciate when I'm looking at cards in a shop though is not having prices available and having to wait on pricing, it's a small thing to not pick about as a customer. This shop doesn't do that and it means having to wait for someone to help and price the card for you, which only takes a few minutes in my experience. It's not the end of the world for some people, it's only a preference.
Experiencia negativa: When I went in to go sell some of my PS fives and PS4 games the management and the employee was horrible. Don’t go here because it’s always a excuse on why they on why they can’t take your games I understand policies and certain things But telling a customer that y’all won’t sell the product because I’m proving your employee wrong and they said and I quote “WE HAVE GAME TESTERS IN BACK “ they said multiple times that y’all have a tester, but then y’all don’t wanna go test the disc to see they work that’s unprofessional I put in hours on the games that I’m selling I wanted too sell NCAA And metal gear and nba that place is unprofessional don’t go there you wasting your time lmao and then they tried to say about a blu ray disc and the games not gone last long bro I purchased them when first drop and I had my ps5 longer than that and my games work perfectly fine so i don’t if im wrong I will apologize and take accountability of my actions and words but its not making sense
Experiencia fantástica: Awesome place! Great display! A little to proud of whats in the high end case. I am a collector and all the prices were spot on except what was locked up. Maybe im just cheap . Anyway ill be back to buy some more!
Experiencia positiva: Got my order with no problems but there was no tracking for it. It wasn’t a big deal but I was nervous it hadn’t been sent
Hi Christian, it sounds like you made an order with us via TCGplayer. Your order history should have updated when the order was sent and shown the shipping history, with or without tracking. We're glad to hear your order arrived safely. If you ever have any questions with an online order, please use the "message seller" option and we'll get back to you asap with an update. Have a great day!
Experiencia negativa: Terrible trading service, tried to trade cards and told to leave my cards their and they'll call me back after they get a trade value, after that I could choose to go back down their and then trade. Like who would leave their cards and come back another day with no guarantees that condition and all your cards would still be their.
Hi Sam, with large amounts of cards, it takes time to condition and properly evaluate the value of the trade. We are very careful with trades to ensure everything is safe and secure during the evaluation process. You also visited near the end of the day which is why we offered to review the items and call you when our offer was ready. This is a standard process for many businesses. If you bring only small amounts of cards in those can often be reviewed same day. All the best.
Experiencia fantástica: A great used game store with a nice ambience and a large variety of options. I would recommend.
Experiencia negativa: xtremely disappointing experience at Retro-Shark Gaming in Gresham. They offer bottom-dollar trade values, charge premium prices for cards in poor condition, and won’t even let customers properly inspect cards before purchasing. There’s zero room for negotiation, and from a value standpoint, you’re much better off taking your business elsewhere. The customer service is polite until there’s a problem—then the tone shifts dramatically. I experienced what felt like gaslighting when I raised a valid concern. Instead of addressing the issue, I was dismissed with a condescending attitude and told “what’s done is done,” even though I never agreed to what they claimed I had. One manager in particular was dismissive, unhelpful, and made it clear they had no interest in resolving anything. That alone was enough to guarantee I’ll never return, and I absolutely will not recommend this store to anyone. If this is the type of business you choose to support, that’s your call—but I’d strongly advise caution. My experience with Retro-Shark was unprofessional, disrespectful, and incredibly frustrating.
Experiencia fantástica: found Journey Together packs pokemon thankfully limited, Or plenty of good perhaps rare games gaming products :)
Experiencia negativa: I use to like this place, but it sucks now. They overcharge for everything, prismatic ETB’s are 140$ at even a market price of 100-105, the singles if they aren’t battered are like 20% more than the highest market price. My biggest gripe though is the trade in value. I offered 821$ worth of cards to them which I literally could see the price of as they offered me 300$ for everything, I offered 5 cards worth 140$ a few weeks before that, they offered 65$. Do not trade with these people they will conveniently charge market for anything they sell and buy in anything you trade in at 40-50% of current value.
Hello there, First things first: We did make an error in pricing your slab earlier. We talked about it and realized we did not value based on the Beckett Gold label. We still don't agree with the value you assigned it, but we were off as well. Apologies for that. We also are maxing out offers on non-10 graded cards at 50% cash currently due to the large spikes in trade ins and slow moving nature of them during an extremely volatile market.
Second: Prismatic ETBs have only just dropped a bit today. If you're looking at market data on Tcgplayer (the site we use for all ungraded cards), it's skewed by sales of ETB accessories and other incomplete ETB products. Actual low as of right now is 124, and that comes with an ETA of 1-2 weeks for shipping.
Third: I'm unsure what market you use, but due to the high volatility of the current Pokemon market, we're looking at a conglomerate of the lowest handful of current listings by other LGSs on TCGplayer and using that to assign value. We do this to catch sudden spikes as well as sudden drops and be able to offer a fair service. Seeing large differences in Tcgplayer market and actual low is extremely common (going both up and down) currently.
Lastly: your percentage on our current offer range is incorrect. I think some of it is due to our mistake on the slab, and some of it (this is just taking a guess based on common things that pop up when dealing with Pokemon and MTG) is due to disagreements on condition. Unfortunately, pack fresh does not mean NM. Things like print lines are common, and are an automatic bump from NM to LP. The value difference between LP and NM is often a lot for Pokemon, and would affect our offer significantly. Our offer percentage does vary quite a bit based on card value (we offer more the higher value the card is), sale velocity, and cash vs credit. High end, NM Pokemon (cards worth at least $50) we're usually in the 60% for cash offers. Below that varies a lot.
I'm sorry you're no longer happy with our service. The Pokemon market is extremely volatile and we're adapting the fastest we can.
Experiencia negativa: The place was organized and clean. Staff was okay but wasn't super warm or welcoming. There was a large variety of PS2, PS3, and PS4 games. A fair amount of retro games for Nintendo 64 and few for DSI, Gameboy, and Wii. But the pricing isn't that great for new or even old games. It makes sense that the older games that are more popular, you pay more for it. But the older one off games were up there too. New games were very close to retail for any devices, I could buy it brand new else where. I understand older games/devices can be hard to come by so if you are willing to pay that price, kudos. Seems like they mainly focus on DND and Pokémon cards. Half the store was cards, 1/4 board games and 1/4 games/devices.
Experiencia negativa: bought resident evil 3 and was able to play like 3 out of 10 times because of corrupted data error that happened after the first game play. I tried to return the game but was told it was an issue with my system, but i have no issues with my ps4 reading any of my other games.
Hi there, We tested the game here in store when you brought it back and weren't having any issues with it playing, which is why we determined the issue was associated with your machine. That specific error is likely an issue with the save file on your playstation. There are many walkthroughs online that give steps on how to rectify that error. All the best.
Experiencia fantástica: Great and friendly environment, amazing selection of playing cards, video/board games, movies and many other things.
Experiencia fantástica: Play DND here, staff is super nice
Experiencia fantástica: Great store, they have a really good selection of retro games and accessories, and cards too. The customer service is fantastic, the folks who work there are so nice, personable and knowledgable. Kaitlin (apologies if not spelled right!) was super helpful, kind, and patient regarding an issue I had. I’ll definitely be back!
Experiencia positiva: Went there to just see what they had and window shop, ended up leaving with a very clean ps1 and a copy of crash team racing. My only complaint is they do not use "butter" stickers on game cases, I am still trying to get the residue off of CTR. Other than that good prices below pricecharting if you're looking for retro consoles, games ect. Definitely will be back for more, if you're reading this review catch me on whatnot XxretrojoexXpdx
Experiencia fantástica: Love this place great staff will always bring my business here!
Experiencia positiva: Friendly staff, clean space, well stocked used games, and excellent selection of magic cards. Their miniature selection is... ok. But they are a card and used game shop first, so it is to be expected.
Experiencia fantástica: Rain is the reason I enjoyed my experience. From the initial phone call to the unspoken helping hand. She aided me not only in my purchases of pokemon but the passion of pokemon. I look forward to the soon to be pokemon community events at this location!!
Experiencia negativa: My son and I are new to Pokémon. We wanted to get boxes to keep our active decks in so we bought two Spectrum Prism boxes. I opened my box first and realized they were difficult to open and my 7 year old with small hands was not able to open my card box. When we went to exchange the unopened card box with our receipt from two days before, the manager was unwilling to do so. I would have probably paid more money for a different box on top of what we already spent, sadly instead they lost a customer for what I anticipate will be a long time. I understand having certain policies but that’s just incredibly poor customer service.
Hi there, Im sorry to hear about this experience. While there are some items we cannot accept returns on, if it was a still sealed deckbox with the reciept we should have been able to assist. Please come back this evening or tomorrow evening and we will make sure you get taken care of. Thanks,
Experiencia negativa: I called and asked about three specific Sega Genesis games. The woman who answered looked them up and said yes we have them. I got in the car and went right over when I got there they honestly had 5 or 6 Sega games and none of then were the ones I called about. I think they just say yes to customers in hope of when you get there you might buy a plushie or some magic the gathering crap. If someone calls and you say you have it that's wrong wasted my time and gas.
Hi there, I'm sorry for the mixup with these games. We never say yes if our system doesnt show the games in stock, but we have been rearranging some sections so there must have been a misscommunication with the person you spoke with as far as where those games could be found in the store. If you give us another call and leave your information, we would be happy to find and place the games on hold for your next visit.
Experiencia fantástica: Such an amazing experience! I came in close to closing time and they took super good care of my needs! Helped me look for a game and explained the details! The manager caitlin is fantastic!! She was so nice and extremely helpful, you can tell that she really cares about the customers and making them happy! If i could give 10 stars i would!
Experiencia negativa: Tim the man who claims to be the one in charge of operations stole many of my cards of great value from my pokemon collection. They kept 2 binders overnight with a promise for their safety and upon pick up Tim had the nerve to offer me 3$ for one card and denied having all that are now missing. I worked hard for the cards I have acquired and it causes me great pain to lose them and to be lied to and even spoke to with such disrespect. Please DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE THEY ARE THIEVES!
Hi there, We take the security of items in trade very seriously and ensure everyone gets their items back if they don't accept our offer. Can you tell us what cards you think were removed? When we received the binders they were not full and had some empty slots, which has been verified by camera footage. We reviewed the cards that were there and found one card we were interested in, which we made an offer on.
When we spoke with you about the offer you stated there were less cards in the binder than when you dropped off.
Please send us the list of cards you believe were taken and we will look into this on your behalf. You can send the list to [email protected] and we will make sure this is thoroughly reviewed and that we get back to you ASAP. Thanks,
Experiencia negativa: Scalpers. Promised pre-orders at msrp, come in day one of release to be told if we want it we have to pay 150$ for something that's 50$, and 50$ for somethings that 10$. Go anywhere else, they don't keep promised and paid for pre-orders and will lie to try to get sales. Edit for response: maybe don't tell faithful customers they can have them be set aside using in store credit we had been building up there solely for the purpose of this release almost a month in advance. Each time we would sell stuff here to add in-store credit, we asked to make sure our box would be ready for us when it was released, and we were assured every time it would be. Don't trust anyone's word here, because the owner will either change his mind or not inform his employees who then give false information. Either way, don't come here to buy new cards.
Good morning, we did not promise preorders. In fact we have been turning everyone away who has asked for preorders. Prismatic evolutions is a very limited item and we have been telling everyone it is first come first serve. Pokemon doesn't have msrp and we have been stating that it will be sold at market price, which is what we have priced our very limited selection at.
Edit for further response: To address what you said. 1. You were allowed to spend your credit on this. This was not prohibited. There were boxes present when you visited our store Friday and you chose not to make the purchase. 2. The manager mistakenly said we could hold this for you. He then called prior to inform you that we could not but told you to come in early for it. You understood and made no complaints about it which is why you were waiting in line and had the ability to purchase if you wanted to. 3. No one gave you a price or promised anything. Neither of you even talked to the person who does the pricing. The most that was said was that we wouldn't know the price until the night before and we would price about market. 4. To address you being displeased with the price, I can promise you we are too. We got less than 20 ETBs for this set after requesting multiple hundred from the distributor. There is no more coming as far as we've been told. We're a business. We need to make money. We need to keep product on the shelves. If we sold at typical prices we'd have no volume and no product. It's an unfortunate circumstance for everyone and we're truly sorry that has made you so unhappy. We're not pleased with it either.
All the best.
Experiencia positiva: Friendly staff good selection I would avoid buying single packs from here I got a charizard v for 24$ on tcg it’s 11.15$
Experiencia positiva: This guy had the audacity to try and give me $15 for 8 mint SIR’s absolutely crazy. I wouldn’t try selling your cards here. Good selection of everything though I do appreciate that. Just wish the employee/owner was a little more professional.
Hi there, Thanks for your review. You brought us several copies of Magneton #159. There are two versions of this card, one is from the standard packs, the other is a special Pokémon center exclusive version, which has the Pokémon center name and a pokéball on the right hand corner, under the "40". The Pokémon center exclusive is rare and expensive currently. The version without, at Near mint, we would expect to sell at a maximum of $3.00. We use TCGplayer for checking current prices and while artwork may be similar between different versions, all individuals on staff are trained to look for the slight differences so that we can offer the appropriate price. Pricing varies widely from card to card, and just because something is considered a secret rare doesn't necessarily mean that it is going to be valuable, even in mint condition. If you ever have any questions about why an offer is presented for certain cards, we are happy to explain our reasoning for the offer and which version of the card we are looking at. Thanks,
Experiencia fantástica: They buy and sell pokémon cards here. They also have a really awesome plushie of Audrey too that's around $200 some odd dollars. They actually carried quite a bit of stuff for a gaming store I was surprised at what varieties they had. The staff is friendly and they host gaming nights here.
Experiencia fantástica: They have a great selection for certain systems but was still able to find some good PS1 games. Very good pricing overall, other retro game stores in Portland are wanting more than what eBay sells for, this place has most under. The staff are amazing! Very knowledgeable, friendly and like making small talk. Definitely recommend checking out even just to browse!
Experiencia fantástica: Been coming to this store for 2 years and it good it have good prices for games and movies. Also people who work there is nice and helpful.
Experiencia fantástica: Great place to find a hidden gem. Huge selection, great organization, tons of funko pops, And great place to buy or sell .
Experiencia fantástica: Dynamite location, great selection and tons of gaming space too.
Experiencia positiva: This looks like a great store for people who enjoy board games, card games, and I guess funko pops as well. The videogame selection is a little sparse compared to other videogame stores in Portland but I definitely had a good experience overall. I hope to return in the future since they had some really good deals for Xbox titles and kept most of their games in good condition.
Experiencia positiva: I enjoy coming here, the only real drawback has been the singles selection. Nice place though and a good selection of other things.
Experiencia fantástica: Always great customer service and always have answers to questions . Highly recommend this store
Experiencia negativa: Was wanting to but some pokemon singles, but got ignored for over 20min. Walked out a little disappointed
Experiencia fantástica: Retro shark is a great classic game shop that also has cards and board/table games. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Experiencia fantástica: My friends and I love playing here on Sunday and Monday! There's a good variety of cards, video games and board games. We mainly play Magic. The people who come in are chill and the workers put a playlist of music on to give a relaxed atmosphere. The staff here is super nice and knowledgeable about magic. Tim is always really great to have a conversation with and always offers good suggestions of different cards to place in my deck. There's drinks inside but if you feel peckish a dollar tree is right next door so it's very convenient for long play days.
Experiencia fantástica: I just want to say, I was very impressed by the customer service I received from the young lady here. From the time I called to a day after when I visited. Her spirit was uplifting and made me smile. It's rare now these days. Thanks for making my experience giving up some things I have held onto fun knowing I wasn't silly for thinking they were treasures too.
Experiencia negativa: BE AWARE!!! They have hidden predatory return policies. BE CAREFULL!! what you purchase from them. They also have higher prices than other competitors. I would recommend double jump games video games or video game wizards. I bought a gamecube super smash bros controller for 40$ like 2 months ago. The same day I used it and the R button was not working and glitchy. I went the next day to return it. Their return policy states they accept returns on defective accessories like controllers. So I thought I would be getting my money back. But that was far from the truth. So I said I wanted return it and told them the R button was not working. They then take the controller to run a "pie" test. And they said it passed the "pie" test. They said the pie test is accurate. I said it wasn't working for me. I tried to use it all day on mario kart double dash and was not registering the R button for drifting. No where on their return policy does it state any item has to pass a "pie" for it to be defective. Thats absolutely terrible!! that they have levels to their return policies. They should do better and clarify their return policy. They then said they can't accept a return and can do instore credit. I asked what was store credit? They said 12$!!! cash Or 15$!! Store credit And I paid 40$ i told the store employee no where does it say on their return policy an item has to pass any test of any sort to deem it defective. And the store employee just shrugged his shoulders and said nothing! They would have gained 28$ if i took the cash offer and most likely throw it up for sale again for 40$ what a sketchy business tactic to do on customers. Knowing i would take a big loss on a controller that did not work i then said i would just keep the controller. That's insane!!! I was super frustrated and took it to double jump games and they offered me 25$ store or 20$ cash for the state of the controller it was in. Way better then what retro offered me. They make it sooo difficult to return items. I DO NOT RECCOMEND THIS IF YOUR TRYING TO GET BACK INTO RETRO GAMING!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS SKETCHY BUSINESS!!!
Hi there, our return policies are posted in store to be reviewed before purchase, as well as stated verbally at time of purchase and printed on every reciept. The "Pie" test you referred to is a test that confirms the responsoveness and functionality of the controller. If the controller is any way defective, it would show via that test. Based on what you stated, the tests all passed and the system recieved the appropriate input information from the controller, indicating it isnt defective and was functioning properly. As stated on all of our return policy documentation, all returns are for store credit and controller returns for defect must be done within 14 days of purchase. There are no "levels" of return, it just happened that it passed all tests and therefore was not defective. As it was proven with the test that the controller was not defective, it would fall into the "for satisfaction" category of our return policy, which is 24hrs from purchase. Over those time periods we are willing to discuss trade in, which is the amounts you referred to. Im sorry you're unhappy with your experience but we hold ourselves to the highest standards for honesty in all business dealings and have everything clearly stated in multiple ways regarding our return policies.
Experiencia fantástica: Kat is amazing! Gave me a little extra on my trade in for being a long time customer, and her service was quick and extremely friendly. Wouldn’t ever go anywhere else!
Experiencia positiva: I have went to Retro several times to sell my Magic & Pokémon cards, first couple times I was ok with what they offered me, the last 2 times I felt completely low balled, especially after I went to a different shop and realized they could have offered me a way better deal. Won't be going back to sell my cards anymore. Staff was friendly overall probably because they knew they were going to get great cards for super cheap. My fault for not speaking up but I will take a loss just to see what kind of business I'm dealing with.
I'm sorry to hear that you feel you were lowballed. That is never our intention. We pride ourselves on providing the most fair prices based on the condition of the cards and the value of them. If you ever have questions about an offer, please ask the person handling your trade to provide more details. We are always happy to explain the exact percentage we are offering on a specific card and why we are offering that amount. We hope you'll give us another chance.
Experiencia fantástica: Always a great place to play when I'm in town. The people and environment are top notch.
Experiencia positiva: My autistic son like it and get more business then books and books next door. Even got a hi walking in
Experiencia fantástica: Usually have some good things especially a large section of video games i personally think they should sell more figures but thats me 5-31-24 got that big sentinel figure worth the price ow I need to make room for it
Experiencia negativa: Had some bad customer service this evening, unfortunately it's only when the owner isn't around. I felt very ignored, I asked a question, the employee started to answer and then started engaging with another customer on their question and finished with them before redirecting attention back to me, I also waited in line, and when asked what I wanted I informed the employee what I wanted and they said ok, and then got on the computer and was researching something for about 4-5 minutes best count by my watch... the employee then re engaged with me and got me what I wanted which took about 45 seconds to grab and ring up... the problem is when the owner is around they are very attentive and helpful, when the owner is not around, not so much. This had been trending for a while.
Experiencia fantástica: This place has the friendliest service in the Portland Metro area for retro video games! I had purchased a PS2 system package, but the controller had a couple of buttons that were not functional. They were happy to make the switch for me at no additional cost. They also have a good but small selection of hard to find items at reasonable prices. Highly reccomend!
Experiencia fantástica: Staff is always friendly and helpful, and large selection of gaming needs.
Experiencia negativa: Sold me a controller with stick drift and wouldnt buy it back, the people here are incredibly rude. DO NOT GO HERE.
Hi there, I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with your controller. All of our controllers are fully tested before sale. In addition, our policy is that, for controllers, if you have an issue you can return it with your reciept for store credit within 14 days of purchase. When you came in, you stated it's been two months since you purchased the controller so it's now outside of the refund timeframe and we aren't able to take it back. All the best
Experiencia fantástica: Fun little gaming store! I love retro game hunting, some of the games were a little over priced for the standard (probably for holidays, this is something people do frequently) but their consoles and controllers are a great price point! Will go back soon :)
Experiencia fantástica: This place is super cool! I've been trying to hunt around the Portland metro area for a copy of The Urbz: Sims in the City for Nintendo DS, which I've had a hard time finding. They had not only one copy, but two! (And I took both, I had to give the other to my boyfriend who is now enjoying this amazing game too.) The people who run this store are friendly and helpful, and they generally know a lot about games! I enjoy how the store is organized and they have a lot to offer when it comes to geek culture. I don't often come to Gresham area, but whenever I am around, I'll definitely be stopping by this store, and recommending it to others.
Experiencia positiva: This place is awesome for video game stuff. Good selection, fair pricing, etc. Trade-in process is ATROCIOUS, however. 5 mtg cards took almost 2 hours to get me an offer. Most trades you have to leave there for almost a week before you get an offer (if they even call you. I had to call them). If they worked on the trade in issues (there are many), I feel like it would be the perfect store.
Experiencia fantástica: Employees are helpful and knowledgeable, there's a decent selection of games to choose from, and it's not GameStop. Had a nice conversation with the dude behind the counter about gatekeeping gamers and how much they suck, and that accessibility of games to new gamers is a pretty good idea.
Experiencia fantástica: I recently found a few Pokemon cards in a storage unit I bought, knowing very little about them I decided to try and sell them. The people here were very helpful and brought to my attention that some of them were fake and showed me how to spot the fakes. All and all I got a fair price and learned some new details for the future. I highly appreciate the help and recommend anyone interested in this stuff give them a try
Experiencia fantástica: Good selection of video games (used), TTRPGs and supplies, and open space/tables for groups to play. They seem to be actively improving things like store layout and their stock. I don't live particularly close so I only have been in a few times over about a year, but if you're in the neighborhood you should check them out. A good place to support.
Experiencia negativa: Me and my girlfriend went into the store as I was excited about finding a local game store to possibly play in. First experience walking in was that it was well kept and plenty of space! Sadly no one talked to us for the 30ish minutes we spent looking around the store. Even when we stood at the counter expressing interest in seeing stuff behind the counter the employees would just walk past us as if we weren't even there. We finally gave up and ended up leaving.
Hello there, I'm really sorry to hear about your experience. We pride ourselves on our customer service and this is certainly not something we find acceptable. Today was a really busy trade day and I know the team was behind and rushing to get things done for people who were waiting. Regardless, this isn't acceptable and we'll make sure it doesn't happen again. I hope you give us another shot.
Experiencia negativa: This store has really gone downhill since they moved. Prices are pathetic, new employees are rude, I bought games here a a year ago before I moved and 2 games I bought were not working. Plus the store credit is a ripoff. I can't believe the new employees and manager are that dumb. Never going back here ever again. It's a shame too because I used to come here all time without any problems like this but now the new employees are so dumb. They made me wait for the dumbest reasons and I was about to walk out in silence once but didn't because they caught me perfectly but still this store is so bad now I can't believe it. Don't shop here
Experiencia positiva: Love the store. Great trades and the community is amazing. One of the staff members can be short sometimes but other then that it’s amazing
Experiencia fantástica: This place is fantastic and has a little of everything. Retro video games, board games, D&D supplies, collectible cards and even DVDs. They have a great table area for game play and host several events. This is always a must stop when my family is in town.
Experiencia negativa: First off they are incredibly rude to my wife. They always seem nice to me but anytime my wife has gone in or talked they treat her like she is stupid. Second they don't offer actual legitimate offers on trades. We brought in $1300 worth of Pops and they offered us a whole $400 which is laughable. They want to pay as little as possible but then sell their pops with no concern for damage and as expensive as they can get. AVOID THIS STORE!!!!!
Hello. We offered 400 in cash or 500 in credit for 1200 in Funko pops and declined some because of damage. I know that seems low, but most of the Funko pops were 15 dollars and below in value and were items we can still pick up from distribution. Had it been asked, we could have explained the entirety of our offer, which was much better percentage wise for the stuff that was in higher demand/collectability. We can't make high percentage offers on lower end figures.
As for being rude to your wife, I was the one who helped her and that's simply not true. She came in and stood around our counter waiting for her turn in line. She said she was there for Funko pops. I asked her name and we made sure it lined up with one of the pop trades in queue. I asked for one second so I could find the offer, and then gave her the quote. She immediately said no and asked for the stuff back. I said no problem I understood, apologized, and got her the collection (60+ Pops) in the order she wanted it while also watching it to make sure nothing happened to her stuff (even though we were quite busy at the time). Other than being asked to hand her a specific Pop, there was basically nothing said, as she was preoccupied on her phone, until I told her to have a good day . She seemed a little upset, but said the same back to me. I understand people being upset with offers on their collections; they hold more value to the owners than us. That is perfectly understandable so it was no problem. But as for me being rude, there was almost no dialogue so I'm unsure how we could have been. She said no, asked for her stuff back, then took it while I stood by and got it to her in order.
Experiencia fantástica: This is a well managed, clean, reasonably priced, and easy to navigate store. They have a wide selection of merchandise for collectors, children, and gamers alike. The staff is as knowledgeable as they are friendly. This is, without a doubt, my new go-to shop for anything card / board / video gaming.
Experiencia fantástica: The person that helped me out was knowledgeable. I didn't know what to get my son and he presented me the best option .My Son was happy and he didn't try to sell me the expensive stuff .. I did buy a faulty game but he made it right with no issues and just Incase it didn't work out he had a back up plan. . Thanks !!
Experiencia positiva: Great place is clean and they have a nice inventory too! I bought a G293 Logitech racing wheel with a shifter and it works amazing, employees are friendly
Experiencia fantástica: Great place to play Magic: Commander on Sundays . I also like coming here to shop for Magic singles during the week, the new computerized system is nice, and the prices are fair . Friendly staff and players
Experiencia fantástica: They had all the cables I needed to use my NES with a hdmi on the tv and offered to help with troubleshooting issues as well. Very nice staff, great store, and comfortable atmosphere for hanging out with friends.
Experiencia positiva: I miss stores like this where you can buy a board game or get rid of a board game if it's got value the only negative I could see is I needed ask some questions and there was one guy there and one guy selling a big box of stuff and I didn't have time to wait around
Experiencia negativa: Staff are pretty rude . Just wanted to sell some games and the new trainee didn't even know if they trade cash for video games. Tf ? Its funny they are nicer in their reply to your bad comment. Dude is definitely targeting every bad comment lol get a life
Hi there. The 'new hire' is literally on their first day and had been there for only a few minutes. I'm sorry they were unable to help to your satisfaction. We are happy to buy games and do pay cash or store credit.
Experiencia negativa: Not what it used to be Old time video game lover here... buuut nowadays this store is more like a tabletop/TCG haven with "retro" on the side.. contrary to their name ... nearly 2/3 of the store is dedicated to this genre in brand-new condition. Back when it was in gresham town fair this store really felt like a cozy hole-in-the-wall with hidden gems, but now it feels like just another goin' gamin, gambit's or small scale guardian games (we already have plenty of stores like this in the area). The retro video game sections feel neglected and for what there is the prices are steep. I checked the facebook and theposts are pictures of printouts and whiteboards , when they actually used to update the new games and items they got in stock like most other retro stores... hard to tell if they really care about building a community or know what their store should be. Just look to the other recent reviews if you want to know about that. Not meaning 2 be salty just sad to see it go this way, and miss being able to find retro gaming closer to Gresham instead of just popping in to the closest goodwill and hoping for the best. If you want a stereotypical "game store" experience this place is fine, but if you're looking for what this store used to be, and like Retro Gaming, you'd better off wait for the Portland gaming convention, or go farther into PDX for HGX or doublejump.
Hello. Our space is 4500 Square feet. Less than 700 is dedicated to TCG. It's just behind the glass cases, as well as some stations for sleeves. Our retro game selection has actually expanded though. It is a little picked through currently though, as we're trying to restock things after the holiday rush. We do need to do better about updating our social media as product comes in, and that's something we'll be working on going forward. Thanks for your feedback.
