Negative experience: Overpriced because retro video games are currently popular. They have a decent selection but you're gonna pay 20 dollars for a game that you can get on eBay for 5 plus 3 or 4 bucks in shipping. Just order your games from Amazon or eBay....also you can at least return them if they're bullshit. Guarantee Software Seconds won't refund you. Idk for sure, but my experience there tells me it's not likely

Negative experience: I had the misfortune of dealing with Dennis at Software Seconds. My experience was that his rudeness was eclipsed only by his dishonesty in our transaction. If your interest is in computer or electronic hardware, this is not where you want to shop. It's shocking how little knowledge Software Seconds appears to have about the products they deal in. Not even a basic understanding of how computers work. Do yourself a favor and shop somewhere else. I don't know what happened to him, I will not do business with Dennis again. Edit: Dennis Mistoler is the owner and the "Response from the owner" below is likely written by Dennis himself. The deception and dishonesty continues...

Fantastic experience: Awesome place, I got two games from here and a power cord and controller from them. Everything was great and the games were used but literally looked new and were in mint mint condition thank you!!!

Fantastic experience: They have basically every console, except current generation (PS5). Lots of games for every console and even current generation. Was really a nostalgia hit. Packaged and ready to go system from Atari up to PS4 with lots to choices.

Fantastic experience: PURE RETRO GAMING NOSTALGIA. It's a rare thing to walk into a retro game store that specializes in just that. Now you couldn't set a better scene either: One person tinkering on an N64, and the other thumbing through inventory and answering the phone while giving me a friendly greeting. They usually got a team story boarding for hours to depict something like this. Selection wise you have what is essentially left and right. You walk to the left or you walk to the right. Every square inch is used to display a great selection of vintage - modern games. Stuff actually worthy of ogling. Not just your typical filler junk.

Fantastic experience: Friendly guys, and quick service. Brought in 2 GBC games that wouldn’t save, and they fixed the batteries within 10 min and at a very fair price. Can’t wait to come back now that I know yall are here

Fantastic experience: Software Seconds is the best retro gaming dedicated shop in Columbia, SC if not the southeastern U.S. at large! The owner is immensely personable, fair, backs his products to the hilt, and has an absolutely incredible shop. He has stuff in his shop that made me drool as a kid born in '77, and frankly still makes me smile today. Please support this amazing local business. We have purchased Wii games and accessories, a PS2 and a ton of games, and I've plans for a Sega Game Gear and other systems in the future. He also has a top of the line disc resurfacer if you find yourself in need of having a disc corrected. Check 'em out!

Fantastic experience: This is the BEST video game store in all of the Carolinas. They deal with EVERY single major gaming system you can think of and they have unbeatable prices. Not to mention all the services the store owner provides. Very knowledgable and their inventory is always on point. If you're looking for a very specific nostalgic game, they will most likely have it. I've gotten countless PS2 games and accessories here and even got a PSP! And unlike the other game stores, they sell modded PS2 memory cards and a hard drive of 200+ PS2 games for the low! Better than every single store, yet it's so humble.

Fantastic experience: I love this place! If you want retro ANYTHING game-wise they probably have it. I have seen things at this store that I have never seen before so there are hidden treasures here as well. The owner is very nice and he engages with you if you have any questions. The owner also fixes your old consoles and he can remove scratches from your old disk. Overall, I give this place 5 stars because the selection is wide, the atmosphere is nostalgia heaven, and the owner is very helpful!

Negative experience: I came in a while back and purchased a Game Cube power supply. I didn’t use it till today when I finally wanted to play my GameCube. Now it suddenly has power supply issues. I took it over to my friends to see maybe it’s just my GameCube. Nope it fried his GameCube too so, now I need to buy 2 new GameCubes. Don’t buy from this place expecting good products.

Fantastic experience: 30 Minutes away from my house but totally worth the Travel for my retro Xbox Collection, every Employee was super Inviting and their Niche Inventory was perfect for anyone with any kind of Vintage/Retro Collection

Negative experience: Meh. Overpriced games and systems. You’re better off buying online, that’s what they do. I prefer Firefly.

Positive experience: Large selection of classic system games just needs the floor plan to be rearranged so that you can actually move around in the store. Currently, it's way too tightly packed.

I'm not a huge gamer, but I still loved looking around at all the cool stuff. It's very nostalgic! The guy was super helpful. I got a Wii game resurfaced that wasn't being recognized by my console. Negative experience: Was sold a fake copy of Pokémon Diamond. The cartridge was bulky and kept getting stuck in my DS. The bronze on the chip was cheaply made and didn’t reflect light properly like other games. The fake serial number on the back was easily rubbed off with my finger. I’m not sure if this was a simple oversight or if you guys even check to see if games are counterfeit but for a company that’s been actively selling on eBay since 2001, I sure hope so. Wasn’t worth the drive or $80.

Negative experience: Just bought 3 ps2 games from here and 2 of them don’t even work at all. And of course all sales are final. Waste of money. Will not be back, would not recommend.

Fantastic experience: This place is a gamers paradise! Best video game store of its kind I have been to! From Atari through Xbox 360 you can find just about anything. There are some PS4 and Xbox One items as well. I shop here before I got anywhere else…and believe me, I go here a lot! Most of my collection has been purchased through Software Seconds. Prices are very reasonable, selection is great, items are clean and worthy of being played and displayed! Mike is great, knows all the products he sells and he stands behind what he sells. This place is a must go! You’re likely to find what you are looking for and then some!

Fantastic experience: The retro and previous gen consoles are well put together, and with everything included you need to make it a gift or a setup for yourself to play at home. The games(handheld included) are in wonderful condition, are organized and displayed very well, and reasonably priced. If I can't find something one day, I come back a little later, and there's hidden gems here. The guy who works here is knowledgeable, understanding, and very helpful. I'm going to be very sad to move soon. This is one of the few biggest spots in the area for great games, consoles, and parts. I've gotten a gcn set, old gcn+wii games I grew up with and lost with time, a pokemon yellow with new battery, pokemon gameboys of two generations, gba games. My bf has even gotten plenty of parts to accommodate for our old consoles/ newer TV models, which work well with the gcn sold here. The wii are personalized with skins, and there's awesome accessories for your nostalgia.

Fantastic experience: I traded in 72 Playstation 1, Playstation 2, Xbox 360, and Nintendo DS games. Along with a PS2 with two controllers, Nintendo DS, two rock band guitars, a drum set, and a microphone and got $380!! An awesome deal in my eyes!

Negative experience: Place sold me a bad console that was “refurbished and guaranteed” (upon further inspection, there is a stain of sticky substance that is clearly visible after taking the top off, therefore I am highly suspect any work was done on the system at all); was told to contact if there were any issues at any time after purchase; called back and even offered to pay for shipping but they were not wanting to do that; now stuck w/ two non-functional units of the same device. Really disappointing…I derive no pleasure from submitting reviews such as - really hate to do it but here ya go...

Fantastic experience: One of if not the best video game store I've ever been to. The owner is very nice and works with the customer. The layout is very functional for the customer to shop around. All the products are clean and wrapped like new. Very organized and full of gems. As a video game collector and reseller it's hard to impress me as most video game stores generally have the same stuff. But Software Seconds is full extremely interesting items. With that said Software Seconds has been in business for over 25 years so he's built an abundance of kiosk machines, and great signage. The owner actually sold me two extremely great signs while I was there and gave me very good prices. For anyone within a decent range of this store I highly recommend. Being at this store really boosted my morale as I was out of town for work. With that said my photos are from my hotel room. To finalize my review I am extremely happy with my visit to Software Seconds and hope to find myself in Columbia South Carolina again.

Fantastic experience: Software Seconds has been around for ages. I remember when they were further down St. Andrews, right past Piney Grove. They have a great selection of classic games and systems. Easily the best selection around the greater Columbia/Midlands area. When I went in today they had a NES Power Pad! This store is so cool and the staff is always nice. If you need classic games call Software Seconds and check them out, they've always got something on hand.

Fantastic experience: Been sort of in-and-out here for about a year (I think?) and I have to say, fantastic. Some absolute childhood memories here. Halo, Forza Motorsport, Project Gotham Racing, stuff many early 2000's people would remember. Console selection is pretty big, supporting as far back as the Atari 2600 and up to the Xbox 360 (at least as of my last visit...) I mean hey, they even have a Vectrex in there. At that point, what isn't there to like?

Fantastic experience: Great selection of games, very helpful staff (the owner is usually there), very knowledgeable, professional, and the deals are amazing. Local business that's been here for years and I'm sure they'll be here for many more. Retro gaming is making a comeback! Support your local stores! There's plenty to choose in the Lexington/Columbia area for sure, but I recommend this store.

Negative experience: Lots of merchandise, but as a collector for roughly 20 years, this place gave me weird vibes. Lots of pirate ROM carts and excessive pricing on some products and normal pricing on others, as well as no pricing on some products and the owner admitting that he didn't know of at least one displayed item works without giving a price... I don't know. I've been doing this for a long time and I was not too enthusiastic about spending money here.
