GameStop: Reviews
Negative experience: My pickup order was "stolen" over closed hours. Out of past experiences Pokemon cards are kept behind they counter so to hear they were stolen sounds extremely suspect. With that, they couldnt cancel my order despite being unable to fulfill it either. Lame to say the least.
Negative experience: just wanted to return a controller and this one guy with yellow tinted lenses was being an absolute twerp , made unnecessary comments and was just overall a annoying experience
Fantastic experience: Lucas was amazing and very helpful.
Negative experience: every time i go, the atmosphere is so hostile. the last time i went, i asked one of the workers for the price of a shirt bcz it didn’t say on it, and she said “it’s like $20.” i asked her for the exact amount bcz “like $20” could be anywhere from $19.99 to $29.99. she was rude when she took the shirt from me and scanned it. i didn’t even wanna buy it anymore bcz of that. every time i go, it’s like that. the people are hostile and not helpful, and i prefer going to the other gamestop in town bcz of it.
Fantastic experience: Went in to return five Xbox-360 disks bought online, not knowing that many 360 games are not playable on the Xbox X. I already had the return slips from GameStop.com. Josh greeted me in a friendly way, and then he helped process the returns quickly. He then went on to educate this new Xbox owner about the ins and outs of buying games, something that really helped me understand the pros and cons of used vs new and digital vs disk. He then asked if I wanted the refund to go to my credit card or a GameStop card. I went with the GameStop card, and then he helped me get the best deals buying different games online. I had just enough left over to pick up a Call of Duty: WWII used 360 disk in-shop that went for less than $3! (Being able to buy used games was the main reason I bought an Xbox X.) Josh's professionalism and friendliness made a great impression, not only of the shop he works in, but GameStop as a company. Now I have a reason other than clothes and Chick-fil-a to visit Oaks Mall!
Negative experience: Nice store but had a terrible experience with a certain employee, sadly did not get his name but he was an older white man. Asked him nicely about a code for a game while checking out and he immediately cuts me off and says I should’ve come the day before since they were limited supply (had no idea there was an event going on just asked about it for my boyfriend) once we get to the payment part he asks for my number connected to a gamestop account and I said I dont have one since I just wanted to pay and leave, he then says “this is why you didn’t know about the limited time event” in a very condescending tone. I understand if he was having a bad day but this was a completely terrible way to talk to a customer who simply asked about a code, he could’ve simply said “I apologize but the code was a limited time thing and we aren’t giving them out anymore” and it could’ve been fine but he just kept making snarky remarks.
Negative experience: This hurts to write because I have been a loyal customer here for many years. But this place has severely gone downhill. When the main people who have been there a while are working it’s usually decent but unfortunately most newer people I come across do not to seem to know what they are doing. Either that or changes are happening and I’m just not being told. Anything outside of buying or a regular trade in feels like an impossible task at this point. I went to return a couple of games that didn't work and since they were part of a 4 for 40 deal he is talking about return them all. While I'm confused he has the nerve to interrupt me and tell me what’s going on with an attitude embarrassing me and making me look bad. I will not stand for that. Even if that’s how it works the attitude was not ok. Yes it did all work out once the main person was there but I was so ready to leave at that point I don’t care if what I got now dosent work. I’m just tossing if that’s the case. I will not bother returning anything here anymore. Only buy or regular trade from here on out.
Negative experience: If there was a way to put 0 stars I would. After several attempts a trying to let them make it right and MULTIPLE times of this occuring they have continuously messed up pre-orders. The customer service is despicable, rude and no sense of resolution.
Fantastic experience: This is the best GameStop in Gainesville. The Archer road one sucks and they're always lying to you cause they don't feel like working. The oaks Mall GameStop is the only one I care to go to.
Negative experience: The thing I got was on sale yet charged the same price as if it wasn't on sale
Fantastic experience: This is a great place to swing by for anyone who likes games or collectibles, among many other things! Josh is an amazing store manager who goes out of his way to make the store fun and enjoyable to visit. For example, they opened the store extra late for the Switch 2 launch, which was such a cool experience. All in all, thanks Josh for giving us a fun spot in Gainesville for new and used games!
Positive experience: The staff here are friendly and helpful. The problem with this store is it's two small and they don't have the best game selection. They have other cool stuff worth shopping for here.
Positive experience: Overall a meh experience I get that I was there later in the day but the store was still open for 20 minutes by the time I left but felt like I was being rushed out by a disinterested employee
Negative experience: Absolutely abysmal service. Stood in line for over 30 minutes with my family waiting to do a simple exchange but the store lead was content to argue with a customer the entire time. She could’ve asked him to leave but instead she held up the line while they went back and forth on how what he was getting for his product was fair.
Fantastic experience: Friendly Staff & Good Size I really like the way this store is arranged. The figures, collectibles, and games are all neatly aligned and the floor has plenty of room to navigate easily. The staff member working the day I visited was very friendly and informed me of the store's special offers that week. Although I didn't purchase anything, I enjoyed browsing around very much.
Negative experience: Walked in said hello to the manager and he immediately responded with I don’t know you and I was like well you work here right ? Then I just eventually left. GameStop employees continue to set the bar extremely low.
Fantastic experience: Great place to shop for games. I just wish they had computer games.
Positive experience: About average. Everything is pretty pricey and sadily they didn't have the game that I was looking for.
Negative experience: Basically told me couldn't help me, go to this other location instead and didn't really tell me why. And the map didn't indicate it was in a mall.
Fantastic experience: Took my grandson. He had questions, and the clerk was patient and knowledgeable.
Negative experience: The people are very nice and as helpful as they can be but we bought a pre owned Xbox s and controller, remote was broken so we couldn't even test of the console worked we went back got a working remote and the Xbox will not stay on for more than 20 minutes before it just shuts off so we will be returning everything
Negative experience: GameStop has really gone downhill. Purchased Metroid Prime Remastered for Nintendo Switch. The lady at checkout handed me the case with no game in it. Didn't even bother to grab the game from the drawer! I obviously said something. She did the same exact thing to the guy in front of me! They can't be this inept.
Fantastic experience: Went in to say I have been inside one before they are gone. 5 out 5 of, was able to enter and leave.
Fantastic experience: Man know Me by name now so yeah I'm come here alot ....so what it better the going to hang in bar and booze
Fantastic experience: Always a pleasure to be in this store. The staff are helpful and friendly.
Positive experience: Like everywhere else, lots of stuff out of stock but good selection overall. I'll be back
Fantastic experience: This place is small but still a good place I've actually always been treated nicely and been helped when needed by their staff no matter when I was in there cuz I don't go in there much but I especially can say recently when I went the guy behind the counter Matt I believe his name was was very kind very informative and helpful and I'm not the gamer or into all that but my boyfriend is and I was getting a surprise game for him and Matt was very helpful with making sure the game I grabbed was in fact going to work on our console he in a non pushy annoying way not like how a lot of place make us feel when they're giving us the run down of all the extra bells and whistles u could add for this or that much etc he didn't make me feel that way at all and actually becuz I didn't even know they offered things like warranty and have an account so that ur purchases collect u rewards that u can later us on future purchases etc but I do now and actually I was glad he mentioned them cuz I felt they were necessary helpful and actually not unreasonably priced. And any and all questions I had about any of it he answered and if he wasn't sure he let me know wut he thought but that he wasn't sure and who I could talk to or wut I could do to better find out or if it was something he could check real quick himself then he did. So if anything Matt is awesome.
Positive experience: Prices are high but that's just the prices for the items, not as much stuff as i wanted them to have but it's also the day after black Friday so
Fantastic experience: Friendly, helpful staff. Great place to shop for limited edition preorders so you're not competing with bots online.
Fantastic experience: Always a great place to get my kids game's.
Fantastic experience: Definitely my favorite store it sucks the issues the company has had but this is a gamers lounge I would advise corporate to offer a more social environment that allows kids to sit and hangout it would increase profits dramatically
Fantastic experience: Quick service. They helped with an online order when they didn't have a game we wanted.
Fantastic experience: Great customer service. Reps were able to explain system requirements as well as discuss upcoming game launch dates.
Positive experience: Okay but needs more inventory. Customer service was good.
Fantastic experience: Daniel was amazing. He knew exactly what was best for my family.
Fantastic experience: Love this place mad love they giving me when I buy video games for my PS4.
Fantastic experience: Great store, lots of different merchandise, very helpful and friendly employees.
Positive experience: Well it's GameStop, I'm giving it a 3 because everything is so expensive.. but the staff is very knowledgeable and very nice, and they do have some deals! So definitely check it out
Negative experience: Beware they will add warranty to your purchase without asking permission. Also got a reusable shopping bag added that I did not need. Thought it was a freebie with purchase. Nope I paid for a huge bag for my Switch game that could have fit in my purse.
Positive experience: Surprisingly good gamestop. Found some good deals on games that I never would have expected from gamestop. Unfortunately newer games like for Xbox One, PS4, and Switch are quite overpriced and it'd be better to buy new due to a $5 price difference and used games seemingly never being checked before being sold.
Positive experience: It shows that this location is the least loved in town v.v like most of the mall it just looks like they're getting ready to close their doors.
Negative experience: They won't take returns on items that the receipts clearly states that can be returned. Now I am out $50 for a power supply that I never used. I would not have opened it if I knew I was not able to return it. Please update return policy to show that ANY new item sold cannot be opened.
Positive experience: I stopped by here to pick up a couple games for my sons Nintendo Switch. Online said they had them in stock both new and used. I got there about 20 minutes later and they had the used cases on the shelf for them to be picked up from the counter. I took it up to the counter and the lady said they didnt have them in stock used. However, they did have them new. Eehhhh okay, I lol get Zelda Breath of the wild for $60 new then tack on a $3 warranty plan good for a couple years. It stops working I bring it back and get a new one for free. The used one was going to be $35 though. I also bought a Zelda wireless controller for the Switch to go along with the Game and so my son can play on the big screen TV. Added a $17 used Lego worlds game and my bill was around $140.
Positive experience: Employees are awesome but misguided us on dates for a product to come in. Not their fault though. They were told a date and it never got shipped. Corporate is to blame for that.
Positive experience: Good store for console gaming but they are biased towards Playstation. They need more variety and more xbox products.
Fantastic experience: Cashier was knowledgeable helped me save money and he steered me away from a shotty controller for my switch 5stars
Fantastic experience: Very helpful employees if you need help with something. The store was pretty clean and organized, however some things may be limited stock at the moment. Last time I went in here was for a Nintendo switch that I wanted, and when I looked online I saw that they were going from $400 all the way up to $600 on ebay, this was the reason why I went here. But unfortunately they did not have them either. So if you are looking for a switch this is not the place to go at the moment! But they did have many other things in-stock, like xbox, Playstation, and games. Not a bad place to go if you are looking for somewhere that usually dosen't have to many people inside.
Fantastic experience: Sold my son a disk case w/ the wrong disk in it. Then sold him a disk that wouldn't play. Not the friendliest guy working there either. Oh well we love gaming so nbd I guess
Fantastic experience: Buy 2 get 2 sale right now is amazing. Always really nice staff who are willing to help you.
Negative experience: I hated the service here I was treated really nasty and I believe my account was over charged I'll never shop here again the little girl that waited one was prejudice towards me I hate everything about this location that boycott this location I had a very bad outcome
Negative experience: I used to like going in here even with horrible over prices because of good sales. Now all you get is high sales tactics and when you order something online to pick up in store at a great price the store ends up cancelling because they "can't fulfill". Wow. These stores just keep going down hill.
Fantastic experience: The staff, especially Nicholas, we're very helpful as we looked for a present for our neighbor's son. We don't know much about video games but they did a fantastic job helping us figure out a good present for him!
Fantastic experience: The people that work at GameStop are really nice they want to help you out the best way that they can.
Fantastic experience: This is the only game store I go to. Jon greets everyone with a smile, treats everyone like an old friend and is happy to help with anything needed. On occasions where a game disc has been damaged, he's gone above and beyond to find me a copy to swap out, including calling multiple stores and getting them to hold items for me. When I was unsure about buying a Switch or a used 3DS, Jon took out both items and patiently explained all the pros and cons of both, giving a demonstration of both the original Switch and the new smaller version. I settled on a used 3DS and couldn't be happier. Every time I go into this location I feel like the employees recognize me. This is a good thing! They're very good at picking up on if you're having trouble with finding what you need and always offer help quickly and solve problems efficiently. They're fun to talk to, joke with, and discuss games. The used selection of Xbox One and 360 games is fantastic for such a small store, and if you're looking for something they don't have on location the employees here are always quick to check around their sister stores for you and ask to hold items so you can pick them up. Can't recommend this store enough!!
Negative experience: I used to love GameStops and have been shopping there since it was Electronic's Boutique. In recent years however the used game prices and trade-in value have gotten ridiculous enough to be a meme. I have literally seen used games priced higher than the new copy and you'll be lucky to get more than a dollar for your trade-ins. Frankly I would just shop online at this point.
Positive experience: I don't know how they're still in business. GameStop does not give you fair buyback prices for your devices and games. The store is VERY small. There are other GameStop locations nearby. Doesn't make sense for this location to exist.
Fantastic experience: Great trip to the store. Joshua helped me so much by showing me spots I could look for products I'm interested in. And we shared some laughs. Thanks a ton.
Fantastic experience: Nice little store with polite staff. The store attendant was helpful and knowledgeable in assisting me in picking out a new game for my son. A+ for that.
Positive experience: Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Store was clean and organized. GameStop has always been known for their "in your face" upselling attempts. Roughly 75% of the interaction was having pre-order (reservation) pushed at us and listening to a long list of games coming out soon, even after informing staff that we were not interested.
Fantastic experience: Josh the Sga was extremely helpful and welcoming. Great customer service give that man a raise
Fantastic experience: Really nice store! Clean, pretty well stocked. Holly and Jordan always go out of their way to be helpful and friendly.
Positive experience: Not to knock these guys down, I'm sure they do a good job for being such a small store, located in a good place, feet from a food court but selection unfortunately is limited if you dont have the newest system.
Fantastic experience: Kind, knowledgeable people. Great variety of new and used games. Return policy on used items is fantastic.
Positive experience: Great place I found the game I was looking for and they have so many options to choose from I will go there any time
Fantastic experience: Helpful, polite and overall pleasant experiences whenever I go to Gamestop.
Positive experience: Great stuff and employees just wished there were more games
Negative experience: I preordered fifa champions edition in store and was told i could come pick it up at 9pm on the 24th. and i called to check if i could pick it up and they said you have to come tommorow.
Negative experience: Sales people talk way to much. Can't just go into store without being harassed about buying their program saver multiple times. Had family waiting in car and got two speeches. Makes me not want to go back. Easier just to buy online so I dont have to deal with it.
Negative experience: Stop trying to upsell me 10 different things. I spent over 600$ and told the cashier that was all I wanted or needed. He kept going on and on about memberships, programs etc. I had to threaten to cancel the sale to get him to shut up and take my money.
Positive experience: Many times, you outgrow or get tired of playing the same games. One of the best things about Gamestop is their buyback program. We know a lot of friends who frequently take games in to receive store credit for other games and then they don’t have to spend as much money that way. It is a valuable program they have. My husband has a rewards card. So, you can get an even a better price. Many times, they have pre owned games for many systems. We have always had good service and the employees are usually knowledgeable and good.
Fantastic experience: Love this place. If aren't explaining a habe to the kids trying to ten ten trucks to get to the next level they are asking is if we need any help. If they don't have what we need, they'll order out and get it in the store. Great people. Very friendly and understanding
Negative experience: Not bad not good prices high and service slow gossiping about what I did at home isn't about games flirting etc cmon potential buyer....left empty handed
Fantastic experience: Love these stores. Especially our local store by Firehouse subs. The staff is really friendly and helpful.great staff.
Negative experience: I used to love GameStop but they have shrunk the stores down so much that you can't even walk through them if there are other people in the store....and there is always a huge crowd of people and it seems like the company has a Wal-Mart mentality for making sure to save money by never having enough employees. The employees themselves are usually great and very personable but I avoid going to GameStop anymore because it is such a displeasure to shop there. I usually go online to avoid it.
Negative experience: Little jerk on staff told my wife "gaming is a mans world, go grocery shopping or something" I am i Shock and awe. I will be calling corporate in the morning. He cost your company the purchase of a complete console, a few acessoried and and extra game or 2 to go with it. Hello walmart. Goodjob.
Negative experience: One person working on Sunday??? Plus this is the 33rd time my son has bought a game and it didn't work. Which means I have to bring it back to the store and wait in line again to trade it in. Its horrible.
Positive experience: Staff is not very knowledgeable and they offer poor returns for used games. However prices are good and sometimes you can find hard to find games.
Positive experience: Great little store. Does the most it can with the little space it has. Friendly staff always ready to talk about and recommend their favorite games. One of the only reasons to visit the Oaks Mall as it has become so focused on clothing stores. Never a fan of "club rewards" (I don't need more cards!) but if you become a member, it is a huge benefit. Cheek them out!
Fantastic experience: Honestly, some of the best experiences I've had. Very lenient with return dates given some criteria, do some great deals for me as a Pro Rewards member, always have my back. They are very driven on customer service at this location. Highly recommend them and their pro rewards membership for $15 a year. Not a bad deal at all if you game avidly!
