Experiencia positiva: This is my personal go-to spot in town for buying retro consoles & anything to do with retro accessories (cables, controllers, etc.) - if you're looking for it, there's a good chance they'll have it in their own dedicated section. Furthermore, I also frequent for the refurbishing and GameBoy cartridge battery replacement services, which are awesome and pretty unique compared to what other stores in town offer. Employees are spectacular and remembered me as a regular even though I didn't feel like one beforehand. Neat selection of GameCube stuff that sits at the front of the store and is always fun to glance at no matter what you're looking for. Unfortunately I am hesitant for the five-star because the games can run a bit pricier than other stores, but it is what it is & this remains a fun place to bring friends as well.

Experiencia fantástica: I love going in on my days off and finding what’s they have in stock and display. My collection grow bigger and bigger. The prices they have for games I think it’s fair. Sometimes I’ll trade in games I don’t want for either cash, or store credit and use that to buy games I would love to have. The staff are nice as well and make me feel welcomed.

Experiencia positiva: The staff were very friendly and helpful. No complaints there. Unfortunately I don’t think the trade value is very good. I work in a resale shop so I understand they have to make a profit and not every game sells well or is in the best condition but I do feel it was still very low.

Experiencia positiva: The store is amazing clean and well kept only reason for a 3-star review is when I attempted to reach them by phone to ask them if they had what I needed I could not get through no matter what I did, I called a total of 15 times and couldn't hear anything or they couldn't hear me every time. So this message is for the district manager, GET YOUR PHONE FIXED!!!!! I had to call the store off of bandera road and ordered to check inventory at your store off 410. When I asked the employee on staff he said he's attempted to inform you about it but you didn't believe him. This is now a customer complaining about it. I will erase my review and go five stars once the phones have been fixed

Experiencia fantástica: I was amazed this location was open during the holiday. I brought in a scratched disk that I intended to play but was framed unreadable after a certain point on my console. I was able to call in can confirm this service. Went In A few hours later and was helped with this repair immediately. In under 3 minutes, the person was able to provide the disk back. The mark was still visible but substantially reduced This person stated the service was on the house. I was shocked, but for the better. This retro video game store is not like the others. They not only made my day, they made my weekend. Also, the game is working fine now.

Experiencia fantástica: I had sold some older game equipment and games to a different location but they didn’t have the game I wanted in stock so I came to this one. Apparently when they created my account with the store credit, they spelled it wrong so at first the associate wasn’t able to find it. Cameron (the associate) went above and beyond by calling the store I sold to and trying to get to the bottom of it. He made some calls, kept me updated, and eventually they found out what went wrong. I really appreciated Cameron’s effort to help me when he didn’t really need to. Thank you again Cameron!

An hdmi cable for Wii as well as an expansion memory cover, both for less than what I would have paid on Amazon, plus the ladies here were super nice & helpful. 5-stars A++[

Experiencia negativa: We visit Game Over stores wherever we travel. This store lacked in customer service. Was not greeted or offered assistance. There was an offensive odor in the store so didn't wait to see if we were going to be helped. Definitely will not go back to this location. Game over will always get our business but not this store.

Experiencia negativa: If you want anything older than the XBOX One or PS4 generation and don't want to hit up garage sales or pawn shops, the only place to go in San Antonio is Game Over. Sadly, Game Over is a disappointing chain that gouges its customers and provides iffy frustrating service. After my most recent visit and evaluating what's important to me as a customer, I've decided I will never be visiting a Game Over again. Of course, they do the standard game store behavior of marking games up. This is part of the basic economy that makes a game store function, and you should always expect to pay a premium at a game store for service and seeing it in person, so I'm not super surprised. To get an idea, I generally source my valuations from PriceCharting and did some quick comparisons. A loose copy of Tomodachi Life sells for $73 but Game Over had it for $90. A loose copy of Pokemon Ranger sells for $24 but Game Over had it at $45. A loose copy of Pokemon Yellow sells for $52 but Game Over had it at $100. They also do the standard game store practice at buying games on the cheap, but Game Over does it in a uniquely obtuse and deceptive manner. Let's look at Pokemon Yellow as an example. To get a quote from Game Over's website, you have to put your item in, which is sometimes labeled wrong, then input your name, address, email, and phone number to get an estimate. As of June 22nd, they estimate Yellow at $45 in store credit, which sounds pretty good, and would be pretty good. However, they deceptively change this quote in-store. A staff member told me prices were "based on the needs of an individual location's stock". Basically if a location has a bunch of XBOX sports games they aren't gonna pay a lot for your stack of Madden '08s. To the degree they do this, though, is astounding. The online quote estimator told me my five games and two amiibo were worth $71.75 in store credit, and in store they were quoted at $30. All items were complete in-box and in good condition. This is just over 40% of the online valuation. After being told online your game was worth $45 in credit, would you take $18 for your Pokemon Yellow, knowing they'd resell it at $100? Even with the absurd fudging on both ends, your in-store experience is still hit or miss. From my experience, half the staff is super chill and great to talk to, while half give the vibe they'd rather be anywhere else. I recall one recent occasion where I waited 20 minutes to be helped while waiting at the register because I wanted to buy an amiibo that was locked behind the counter. I was never helped, I just left because I was frustrated the employees were sitting around while I waited at the register to buy something. I like to think I'm not super rude or an overdemanding customer, I'd just like to be asked if I need anything if I'm standing at the register for twenty minutes while there's only one other customer perusing around the store. I'll admit if you truly know nothing I've seen them answer basic questions about hardware and compatibility, which can be a helpful service worth paying the premium for, but depending on your luck in the employee lottery they may or may not be helpful. Overall, Game Over is an incredibly frustrating chain that thrives in San Antonio because its only competition in gaming is GameStop and its only competition in retro gaming is Flashback and Propaganda Palace. I'd love for San Antonio to get more locally owned game stores, but based on my many experiences in these stores, Game Over is not the caliber of service I want to see more of here. We deserve better.

I had boughten a specific item that wasn't a messily $10 but roughly $35 to $40 and the damn thing didn't work , the person at checkout told me if I had any issues I could bring it back for my money or store credit , I call the store and the manager tells me they can't do it and kept huffing and puffing as well as just told me to give the store credit to someone else , but its my money so why would I ? Ontop of that , once I returned it for store credit another employee even admitted that the product doesn't work and also tells people not to buy it , onto of that he even said that it was overpriced too . The manager was extremely rude and wouldn't even honor a one time refund , even though her employee told me that I could . Don't recommend coming here , best place would be Flashback Video Games , cheaper prices and friendly staff .

The staff member tested the system to find it's battery was no good, do I didn't need a cable. They didn't have any batteries available. Thought it was awesome he went out of his way and did sell me something I couldn't use!!!

Then when I went to pick up the game I asked for them to hold I got tremendous amounts of attitude and disrespect for my game choice by some wannabe pretentious hipster, with a beard and glasses. Dude we are all gamers we get enough harassment for it from other people I don’t need it when I’m trying to buy a game. Will gladly take my business elsewhere next time thank you very much.

I visited them looking for a retro Nintendo for my wife, and not only did they have one (and a cheaper alternative), but they also had a few games for it. That's not even mentioning Sega, Super Nintendo, GameCube, PS2 (my favorite!!), and other consoles and games they have. I'll be going back!

I just ended up putting everything back and made online purchases. Everything is over priced, I dont understand how this place stays in business. The other location in Selma, they are atleast nice and helpful.

Chris knocked it out of the park and I will be returning for more purchases in the future just because of him and his leadership.

I had to drive to the other side of town to use the store credit for another console that may not work. Regardless, I'll be back. Best game store I've been to. Worth a visit.

I've always wanted to buy the games I used to play on my 3ds, and when I looked up this place, I was elated to find so many of the games there. To this day I absolutely adore this shop, and I love talking to the employees, especially since they're absolutely hilarious! Honestly, I don't care what anyone else thinks, I will keep going to this location, and I'm eternally thankful for the employees, and the coziness they provide. Thank you, Game Over Videogames, for selling the games I've spent so many years trying to find!

Experiencia positiva: Ive been to this location in late June, and just a few days ago. Both times the staff was very friendly and was able to answer my questions. I went in to buy a Playstation 3 both times and they had no issue with allowing me to inspect the console before buying it. The Playstation 3 that was bought in June was in good condition and even came with the original controller. The Playstation 3 Super Slim i bought a few days ago was also in good condition except that the controller that came with it was super nasty. The buttons felt horrible and the left thumbstick in particular sticks to one side. Opening up the controller revealed dirt and grime everywhere. Aside from that, the console itself works and all my games read fine so no complaint there. The atmosphere of the store is lovely, the music they play is fun, and they have a good selection of games overall.

Experiencia positiva: Corporation pandering to gamers. This store chain likes to give the impression it is run by gamers for gamers, and that it gives good trade in value. This is outright false. DO NOT bring in ANY things for selling to this company. They offer insulting low prices. not even 30% of market value. I have brought in at least 20 different systems over time, and every single time I ask, they offer me some ridiculous amounts. Examples include: $17 for a CIB Gameboy DMG01, $9 for a Fully functional SNES bundle, $10 for a gameboy advance sp, and $25 for an atari bundle with over 50 games. The same week, I sold the atari online for $140, SNES bundle for $110, $140 for the CIB Gameboy, and $90 for the SP. You would think that with these trade in prices, the in store prices would be much lower, however, they are often times higher than market value! I have seen handhelds such as PSP, 3DS, GB, etc. Be $30-50+ higher than online market price! However, this is not to say that everything about this store is bad. The staff here are very friendly, and actually knowledgeable in the field of retro gaming. They are not just some random employee with no knowledge , such as what happens with gamestop. This store also tests systems and games at absolutely zero cost, assuming they have the proper hardware. I am very grateful of this service. TLDR: Do not trade-in/sell stuff here if you value money, and prices are not the best as you can find way better deals online. However, staff is very friendly and happily assist in testing out older systems and games.

They gave me $50 for SNES console (no cables, or controller) and $46 for each PS2 (no cables or controller) They gave me $499 for my merchandise .. i sold them 4 SNES console only $50 each 2 PS2 console only $45 each 7 SNES controllers $8 each 4 Wii console only $26 each And 1 n64 console only $40 DK Oldies buys bare consoles, controllers and games and give you a fair price for them and they pay for shipping In my opinion Game Over should give an instant quote on trade ins to save time.. They should give their quotes assuming everything works and deduct if item is faulty.

Experiencia negativa: The Worst gaming store ive ever been to in my life I brought in a Xbox elite contrioller was offered $2 , now getting offered such a low price did make me upset but what was truly upsetting is what the lady working the counter said she said that the owner had told her that they are not allowed to turn away a sale but they are allowed to put as low as a number as they want to to defer us from trying to sell the item so in short she said that she could put that instead of getting $2 that I would only get a penny if she felt like it I've never been disrespected or hustle more by a gaming store if you're planning on selling any of your stuff or going to buy video games in general look for any place other than this one I will be actively telling people to dodge this place

Experiencia negativa: Jesus Christ where do I start … first off this company is a scam, they don’t offer cash refunds for anything. So make sure you double check the condition of the game/disk to make sure it’s working. I came by and purchased a game and it didn’t work so I received store credit. What a bummer. Second, most of there high priced games are severely damaged or scratched, and they’re priced at 150$ and over which is incompetent and absurd. There is a Pokémon XD going for 219$ and I checked the disc for it’s condition and it been through hell and stayed in hell lol it looks like it’s been ran through inside of a daycare full of 5 year olds. The damage was so bad, I had to refuse. Any game collector knows that if they are going to spend big $$$ it has to be in pristine condition or 9/10 with full manuals and good exterior condition. Both locations in San Antonio are complete garbage and will never walk in one again. Whoever is in charge of selling these damaged items at absurd prices needs to get fired because the greed is real.

Experiencia fantástica: On the 13th I went to this location around 2:13 PM central standard time and I got to meet a very nice dark-skinned African American lady by the name of Kendal who serviced me excellently, she acted with professionalism and allowed me to find a near-mint condition copy of my favorite game known as Crash Bandicoot, she is a very nice lady and is excellent at servicing her customers.

Experiencia negativa: Honestly I don't really have any complaints about the store itself but just always feel like the pricing, selection, and trade in values from Game Over give off a bit of a greedy vibe. I know of other local stores where I can usually find things cheaper and get more trade in value as well. It's often that I'll find an uncommon game I'm interested in and it's usually priced 30-50% higher than market value. I understand it's a convenience factor vs waiting for a game to ship on ebay, but come on. There's not a chance you could haggle a bit as well like other stores. Also, most of the time I bring in games to trade I'm very underwhelmed with the trade in value, I usually just want store credit. I go into game stores with the intent to spend money and if I can recall several times that I've walked out without making a purchase, something might be off. Ive spent thousands of more dollars at your competitors. The way games are traded in, and priced is lacking in competitive edge and value for your customers.

Experiencia negativa: I’m rating this business one star due to my son purchasing a PlayStation Sony brand remote controller… came home tried it out on Tony Hawk game which requires use of multiple buttons and none of them worked so he took it back 1st time they replaced it he brought it back home tried it out again and same issue not working…. Went back a second time they replaced it again! Same thing repeat non working remote control. After this he went back third time wanting his money back bc it has not worked and he wants an actual working controller and they would not give him his $ back even with receipt. The store clerk stated he can have store credit…. My son stated no would like his$ back they would not budge about not returning his $ back. My son went three times to this store and they had the audacity to blame him for the faulty controller… there ways of doing business are just not good at all. This is sad due to my son is a young hardworking person just wanting his money to be spent on an actual working item. They replaced the control again and let’s see what happens… do not recommend shop here at your own risk

The worker there seemed either just angry they had to be there or just maybe they were just overworked. Brought in several games to trade which I was expecting at least 50% value for around 150 (total) and was offered half of that. So the offer was 25% of the value in credit then they would mark up/sell the total value 30% higher than the actual value??? Guess that’s why the selection is very bare bones. I asked to see their GameCube selection and was just directed to about 16 games…half missing their artwork/manuals.

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve ever been to this place before and I was in complete shock when I walked in. The vintage video game consoles and games this place has. From Atari, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Sega Saturn, Sony PlayStation, Sony PlayStation 2, Sony PlayStation 3, Sony PlayStation 4, to hand held consoles Nintendo Gameboys, Nintendo Ds, Sony PsP this place has it all for vintage video games and consoles. They buy and sell all types of games and consoles, all the equipment you need to setup up any vintage console. This place literally brought back a lot of memories for when I was a kid playing these games.

They have a very good selection of retro games, modern games, gaming accessories, consoles, and what I really never see in other stores that I’ve been to is Game Manuals(inserts)...!! I got lucky and found me a Street fighter 2 manual for the snes.!! I probably would of purchased more items but mostly all the HOT items sold due to everyone getting there stimulus checks. but that’s cool..Also check out their display case in the back of the store it’s filled with retro and modern systems..which is a nice touch, Kinda of like a little museum..I recommend this place 10/10. I’m from Illinois visiting family and I will say when I come back I’m definitely going back to this store.

If you have an old system and are needing a part I would definitely try stopping in here first to see if they have what you need.

I missed out on a lot of points after spending $250+ and the cashier forgot to ask if I was a member or wanted to sign up - I found out about the points system after going to the Bandera Rd location an hour later; they didn't forget to mention it. No retroactive points, apparently. Just letting you know here, so you don't miss out.
