Experiencia negativa: Won’t be going back. This store utilizes questionable business practices. I was misled when purchasing an item, and then charged the “regular price” and not “their price”. I was then guilt tripped over being charged a restocking fee, even though the owner was quite aware that he was taking advantage of a customer. Edit: The owner clearly states in his response that he was aware there could’ve been confusion in the purchase and didn’t clarify. He seems to think my concern is with their retaining 6% for a debit card purchase. That’s not the issue. The issue was with continuing to say, “oh, that’s crappy for something that was your fault.” Don’t play mind games with your customers. I was confused with the purchase, clearly, and you should’ve clarified. I hope the 6% keeps your business running.

Experiencia positiva: Lots of obscure oldies Came for the VHS, wasn't much eye popping titles until you get to the locked up stuff. Lots of cool ones. I def have a few things I could sell here. Next time we make the trip from Rockford, I'll bring a few things to sell or trade

Experiencia negativa: I went to this store once and he has a lot of cool stuff. I accidentally left my water bottle there and didn't realize until it was too late. I am from out of town, so I waited around for his shop to open to get my bottle back before going back home. His hours online and at the store say it opens up at 11. But I can say that myself, and 3 other people sat and waited until 11:30 am and he still didn't show to open the store. Myself, as well as the other 3 people, all left. Not sure what time he opens his store at.

Experiencia fantástica: Don't listen to the whiners......this is the only place to go for anything video game related. I've been going there for over 25 years and have never once had a bad experience. The owner is always cool and treats everyone with the same respect he is given. I went there with a ton of stuff......and there was many things he wouldn't take, because he already had too much of the same thing just sitting on the shelves already. BUT, he gave me more than anyone else would have for the things he did take. And they have a HUGE selection of literally everything. So if you go there, treat them how you want to be treated and I guarantee you'll have a pleasant experience. Thanks guys! See you soon.

Experiencia fantástica: The BEST retro game store i’ve ever been to. This is a must stop for anyone in the area. Prices are phenomenal, you’ll find prices lower or matching eBay. The inventory is unlike I’ve ever seen and you can tell shovelware was avoided. All games I looked at were in very good condition, you can tell there’s a vetting process. Lot’s of retro memorabilia, there’s big passion put into this place. The employee/ owner who helped me today was great, extremely friendly, quick to be helpful, and easy to talk to. I’ve lived in Wisconsin, Jersey, NY, Indiana, and now Kentucky and this store has blown everywhere I’ve been out of the water!

I feel like in the Madison area this store is probably the most fair price-wise with what they are selling and also what they offer to pay to buy, at least in my opinion. If you live in the area or are just visiting, I definitely recommend going here. I included photos of my purchases over several visits.

Experiencia fantástica: I originally knew the owner of the store for over 15 years, Lance was his name. I would buy used and new video games from here a lot when it was originally on Atwood Ave. back near the Ohio Tavern. Once it moved out to East Towne however, I continued to go there from time to time. I haven't been there as often since it moved back to Atwood Ave. Great selection and often times can find rare titles no other store carries. A local favorite among video game veterans in the area.

Experiencia positiva: If you're a collector and looking to add to your collection, avoid. 75% of the place is not for sale. If you're a collector that enjoys a museum type setting, where you can see cool stuff, then 5 stars all day. Prices were pretty mid compared to PriceCharting. Don't take the 3 stars as bad. It's just an average of my 1v5 I mentioned earlier. Take it for what it is.

Experiencia fantástica: Stopped in today to sell some games/consoles after having an awful experience at Gamestop (the person looked like they couldn't be more miserable and that my trade-in was the hardest thing they've ever done). What a breath of fresh air! These guys clearly love video games, they gave me excellent value for my trade-ins and I will absolutely be back and recommend you to friends. The only down side is that I live an hour away. Grabbed a couple vinyl (they also sell records!) and a few loose Genesis carts on this trip. Definitely coming back.

Experiencia positiva: I have been going to Video Game X-Change since I was in High School. Back then (30 years ago) it was called "Classic Carts" and was located a few blocks from where the store is now. Lance always had his thumb on the pulse of console gaming back then and introduced me to a few games and consoles I never even heard of. I bought my first Sega console from him, and most of my early Playststion Games. He'd be the one I'd always go to to pre-reserve the largest Zelda or Final Fantasy game. Since then, I've seen Lance's business grow to 3 stores, then shrink back to essentially the original, as the modern gaming and movie market went to streaming. It was the West Side store that introduced me to Anime OSTs and merch such as Wall Scrolls.

I've been going to Pre-play on the west side since it's near where I live but I make the trek to the east side since this store is so much better. The prices are fair and even better when I pay with cash. The atmosphere is great and the owner is friendly. They also regularly get new stock so there is always something to check out.

Nice store when it’s open but no one there during business hours is annoying and unprofessional. Called twice with the second time being after noon and no one answered.

I've been collecting for around 2 years now and I'm always amazed at the very honest pricing at the Video Game X-CHANGE. This is coming from someone who spends WAY too much time scouting prices on EBAY . My typical buying experience is: Video Game X-Change > Ebay > everywhere else.

Their Vinyl selection has gotten SUPER solid. Lots of new records and very fair prices on used ones. Not the biggest selection, but it packs a punch. Worth stopping in.

Experiencia negativa: Behave very badly at thrift stores running in taking all the games and then sorting out the cheap games in a corner. Well documented in several Youtube videos, they have also reacted very rude to these exposes. They delete negative reviews on facebook. An unnecessary middle-man store making money at the expense of other thrift-shoppers. The good thing is that businesses like these will be gone eventually with online auctions ++ Stay away and it will happen faster.

Experiencia fantástica: I got a modified SNES for $80, I know that sounds like a lot but it’s compatible with modern TVs and it has 12-15 games on it, no need to change the packs, they are in the system. The price is not bad as the Nintendo switch cost $300 dollars with no SD cards or games (which original Nintendo games usually cost $60). I also bought a Star Fox 64 game for a Nintendo 64, ENDLESS FUN.

Experiencia positiva: I loved this place, and my boyfriend does too, and we usually find super cool records and games when we go down to Madison, since we now live up north, but although it usually is good, it sucks to be far away when we get the wrong record, if anyone knows how to get money back or exchange it from a far that would be amazing. For now I'm giving it three stars because it usually is very good according to my boyfriend. And I liked them a lot when I went for my first time. We bought a 45 of Chic Le Freak, and got chicago together again and if you leave me now.

Experiencia fantástica: What a gem this place is. Nostalgia literally oozes from here. Video games from every era are readily available for purchase for reasonable prices. I have been on a hunt to find a particular game. Limiting myself to find it in the ed instead of doing it the easy way and ordering it online. After browsing for 45 minutes and walking out the door I found one of the displays and there it was!!

He just started selling vinyl now too and had a really impressive collection. Most I've ever spent on vinyl before. It's a Madison staple if you like videogames.
