Experiencia negativa: Their only english pokemon set is $10 where EVERYWHERE else its $5, they offered $50 on a wii u trade in, which is the price of just one of the games loose. Cool store but everythings overpriced. I brought in a pokemon card with a market price of $350+ and he looked me dead in the eye and told me market was $150. Said he’d give me $100 Sure buddy
Please call the store and ask for management if this was a legitimate experience. We honestly do not recognize this situation at all, and because of that, there’s a good chance this review is not genuine — but if it is, we would absolutely like the opportunity to investigate it directly.
We don't have any English Pokemon packs for $10 right now. We are currently offering around $100 in trade for a Wii U system right now, so the claim that we offered $50 for a Wii U trade with games does not line up at all. We also only have a couple staff members who currently handle Pokémon card evaluations, and neither of them has any idea what interaction you are referring to involving anything close to the values and situation discussed here.

Even pushed my repair up to let me get it next time i was in stl. working perfectly! Great people, complimented my custom made stickers as well! 30 day warrenty, I will come back next time one of my old consoles breaks!
Experiencia negativa: "Can’t recommend. I gave them my entire collection—$900+ worth of things—and they gave me $330 cash. Just a heads up for anyone trying to sell stuff to them: take your stuff somewhere else. GameStop would give you more money.Edit: Since now the owner wants to lie to make himself look better by replying 3 weeks later: I made two different transactions with you, and I am by no means ignorant about what I sold you. You couldn’t even offer half. On top of that, either you or your employee wanted to argue over the phone about the price before I even got there. I just wanted to see if you guys had finished sorting through my games, and then you tried to haggle with me over the phone. I gave you $600+ worth of games and a console in that transaction, and you couldn’t even give me the amount you offered me the night before.On top of that, your employee just tried to eyeball all my items as if she knew the price off the top of her head. Horrible customer service! Mind you, to keep changing the price constantly when we already agreed to a price... I was being nice. I wanted $300 for $650 worth of games, and we had a back-and-forth until she landed on $250 for whatever reason. Then the next day, you wanted to offer me $230, telling me to 'take it or leave it' over the phone. So fine, whatever, I took it. No big deal.But now you want to LIE. First of all, I left a bad review, and then what? You looked in your database and tried to harass me by calling me? What is wrong with you? Secondly, no, you called me for a minute or so. I tried to pick up, but you hung up and never left a voicemail or anything. I called back and said, 'Hey, I got a call from here,' and you said it was a mistake. So, it's a lie saying you reached back out to reverse the transaction. I know it’s a lie because I could see my collection posted on your Instagram the very next day! So, I really don’t know how you were going to reverse the transaction if you were already posting my games saying 'new trade-ins.'These guys are horrible. They will take advantage of you any chance they get. I’m from Seattle, so I know a good game store like Pink Gorilla. Trust me when I say: GO ANYWHERE ELSE! Serious, GameStop or a pawn shop would do better than these clowns."
We always try to make the fairest offers we can based on current market demand, condition, and the realities of reselling and processing items. Sometimes that ends up being less than a customer is hoping for, and other times it’s more than they expect.
In this case, we simply did not agree with your valuation. Even when expectations don’t line up, we still try to make honest offers rather than turn people away without one. We were upfront about the amount we could offer, and while we understood it was lower than what you wanted, you still chose to accept.
After seeing your review, we reached back out and offered to reverse the transaction entirely if you wanted your items back. We held off on putting the items into inventory and delayed responding publicly while waiting to hear back, but unfortunately we never received a response.
Experiencia fantástica: I'm glad I found this place. Our Nintendo Wii had issues with the disc drive and I thought it was a goner. I took it up there and they confidently said they could repair it. It took a few weeks for the part to arrive, but it came back working great!

Experiencia negativa: Bought a ps3, controller, and a game from them, hoping to rekindle some of the nostalgia high I was having. Whenever I got home with it the ps3 was barely playable, extremely laggy, and would cut off every couple of seconds, and when I brought it back they just told me that it was “the ps3 experience”. I tried just getting a refund, since it completely killed the the mood for me even wanting it, just for them to tell me they don’t do refunds and that they don’t even know how to. I was upset but I didnt argue with them, I asked really if there was anything they could do, which we had to wait on their manager, just for him not to even show himself and just had the clerk meet him outside while I waited inside. Really showed their integrity there. I ended up just replacing the ps3, just for the second one they gave me not to work. At this point it’s not even worth going back to them. I had to just junk the ps3 for scrap since I had no faith they’d give me a good ps3. I’m down $200 dollars, oh well it’s a learning experience. Not going back there again. Edit: I forget that my google doesn’t show my name, Pablo Aguilar, I bought a ps3, an extra third party controller, and portal 2.
All of our systems are thoroughly tested and include a full warranty. We stand behind everything we sell. I wasn't able to locate a record of this transaction, and some details don’t line up with how we handle warranty situations. Having issues with two separate consoles including a replacement is extremely unusual and may point to something else going on, which we want to help with. Please give the store a call and ask for the owner or a manager. We’d really like the chance to speak with you and make this right.

Picked up a copy of MK3 Ultimate for SNES in great condition. Staff was knowledgeable and very friendly. Great selection to choose from. Experiencia fantástica: Hey so, Retro gaming is tricky. It's basically gaming with constant back pain. Part of that back pain is getting taken advantage of in a market where a lot of the cost is determined by nostalgia and demand which can be tough to gauge. Sometimes you walk into gaming stores and realize they value it a lot more than you. That being said, Retro Game Rescue has always been fair when I am there. If I ever had any questions about anything, they were able to explain clearly why things are the way they are, and a lot of times it's just out of their hands. These are people I trust, and will give my business to whenever I need a Retro Game. All my money are belong to them.

Experiencia negativa: Purchased a PS5 controller. Used it once and it has major drift, guess a week is too long to return. Would not recommend selling items here either. They pay dirt cheap prices for your items.

That said, all of our controllers are sold with a warranty and we stand behind them. If you’re experiencing drift, we absolutely want the chance to make it right. Experiencia negativa: **What a great ChatGPT response y'all gave. Is that the free version? Or maybe it was Gemini?AVOID this place, they are not honest and lack integrity.** Just realized they only gave me $35 for an NES + Zapper + two controllers, duck hunt, mario 3 and additional original cables. Essentially an NES bundle. They also claimed it had a pin issue which I couldn't verify myself so who knows if that's even true especially with how low of an offer they gave me. After doing some more research and talking to a few people I know who handle this kind of thing it was at least worth $80 - 100. Disgusting scummy behavior, expect this at a pawn shop not a gaming store.

What you were asking for was higher than what we could pay. Given the condition of your items and the margin we needed to fix, clean, resell, and warranty them, we made you the best offer we could. There’s never any obligation to accept an offer. We always want customers to feel comfortable with a deal, and in fact we would have preferred that you had declined the offer if you weren't.

Experiencia negativa: Customer service was ok, but they were consistently bad mouthing another game store while I was there. Pricing is hit or miss. But the kicker was, I left 2 consoles overnight to test and get a price, they completely wiped them before I agreed to sell them. I even asked another game store if this was normal because I felt like I was maybe overreacting. A heads up would’ve been cool. If your reading this review because your up in the air, I would probably shop elsewhere.

We take concerns like this seriously. We have a great relationship with other game stores in the area and make a point not to bad mouth anyone, so if that’s how it came across there was almost certainly a misunderstanding or miscommunication. I haven’t reviewed the camera footage yet, but I do plan to so we can understand exactly what happened.
I also want to apologize for the miscommunication about the systems being wiped. Resetting a console is a standard part of the testing process when we’re evaluating systems for purchase. We are extremely protective of customer data, and removing accounts and personal information is necessary before we can consider a system fully tested. This is a normal part of our process — and the process at many game stores that prioritize protecting customer data.
That said, we are always happy to hold off on testing or resetting a system until a price has been agreed upon if a customer prefers — and we’re sorry if that wasn’t clearly communicated at the time.
If you’d be willing, please give the store a call and ask to speak with Alex or Isaac. We’d appreciate the chance to talk with you directly and clear up any misunderstandings.

Experiencia fantástica: This has been an incredible find! I came in initially to have my PS1 repaired and was impressed by the game selection and quality of service. The owner and his employees know their stuff and have an encyclopedic level of knowledge on all things games and consoles. The pricing was fair and I was able to pickup Seiken Densetsu 3 (Super Famicom) StarWars Podracers(N64) a PS1 and Dual-Trigger PS1 controller. I will definitely be coming back!

Experiencia fantástica: Very lovely store that was fairly convenient for me to reach. The store puts all of its space to good use and everything feels nicely organized and displayed. Prices are what you would expect for a brick and mortar store, a bit more than market value, but you get the game in hand at that moment, guaranteed to be functional, all while supporting a local business. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, making sure I knew I was buying Japanese import games and that they would work on the console I had. It was a very pleasant experience overall.

Store is a little small but is crammed with tons of merchandise covering everything from the old Atari to the latest Switch 2 stuff, but done in a way where it is organized and aesthetically pleasing. They also do a good job with repairs, they fixed my damaged Switch OLED and got it up and running for a fair price.

Our staff explained we didn’t have enough time to properly test it given that we were about to close. They offered to evaluate it and call you the next day. We went in and the gentleman at the counter greeted us, and gave a fair and respectful offer to buy our switch lite, Pokémon sword and Soul Silver game. It took a minute to assess, however staff is very friendly and easy to talk to. We will be back in the future.

They helped me get a new charger for the system and even replaced the battery on the game cartridge to help it actually save. Each time I was in there, everyone was extremely nice and great to chat with. They also have a great selection of games/consoles/collectables. Highly recommend!

Experiencia negativa: Walked in off a recommendation and was immediately assaulted with amazing games and hard to find releases. From graded to new titles the walls were absolutely overpopulated with amazing memorabilia (however) after visiting twice and attempting to shoot a review including their extensive library of Indy Games I was a bit baffled. Every sealed or complete Indy game I attempted to price match on Amazon / eBay / oneup & Mercari showed 20-25$ more than they were being sold elsewhere? I figured this was a simple case of product sitting long enough to experience price flux and not being tended to promptly due to other obligations. No big deal. I even mentioned to the pleasant store clerk (my second time. The first time I visited we had a fantastic chat with the owner about hard to find switch titles, Japanese pokemon cards and extra curricular activities) that more than several titles were priced far above asking price and was met with a “the owner sets the prices so I couldn't do much” which is entirely understandable. We purchased 2 games so far, Super Meat Boy our first visit (15$ more than we should have but who can say no to a sealed meat boy??) and Red Dead Redemption 2, which was actually priced perfectly. Highly recommended for any collector but we suggest you visit while the owner is present if you’re looking to calmly question prices, haggle a bit or purchase in bulk. :EDIT: This store just allows fugitives to make unwelcome moves on customers?? My partner walks in looking for there comfort in video games and is met with a desperate clerk asking about their age / job / situationship then trauma dumps about there criminal life as a bouncer in Japan before asking for their number!? The hell is even happening?? Used to be my favorite retro stop and what I believed to be a safe space for my anxiety riddled partner to shop at but for my own sanity we will be steering clear.

Experiencia negativa: 30 bucks to look at our switch even though we knew what we needed replaced. We also asked about getting the casing replaced, employee said they dont do it. Then i get a call saying you need joysticks replaced(Duh we knew that already!) and he said you mentioned you want a new casing. What the heck. The other guy said u didnt do that. So just no communication at this store among employees or maybe the employees just dont know what they do at this store? So they charged us another 80 to replace the joysticks atop the original 30 to look at it and again, we already knew what needed to be replaced. I called to confirm how much the TOTAL was. They said 80. So I grabbed 80 bucks and headed to pick it up. total was not 80!!!! Made me pay 6 more and some change. When someone asks a total they want an exact total!! Total means cost with tax! You need to figure out how to have better customer service, better communication among your emoloyees and to your customers and someone who knows what giving a total means!
We saw your review and gave you a call to follow up—left a voicemail, but never heard back. Since there seems to be some confusion, let’s clear things up.
First, the $30 bench fee is not a charge just to “look at” your system. It’s our standard minimum fee for any console repair, and it applies whether the issue is obvious or not. Most customers have a general idea of what’s wrong when they bring in a system—but the bench fee still applies to everyone. It covers the time, tools, and expertise involved in evaluating and beginning any repair, and it goes toward the total cost if the repair is approved. This was explained to you at drop-off and is outlined on the work order you signed.
You mentioned the casing, and we brought it up again during the follow-up call because you had asked about it at check-in. The system had cosmetic damage to both the shell and the screen, and replacing both—on top of the joystick repair—would’ve cost more than the unit was worth. We generally don’t recommend repairs that exceed the value of the system, so we focused on restoring functionality instead. We also wanted to make absolutely sure you were aware that those cosmetic repairs were not being done or charged for.
As for the confusion with the total, you were quoted the amount due before sales tax. We understand it caught you off guard, but like every business in states that have a sales tax, prices quoted are not sales tax inclusive. Even though this is standard practice, we’ve asked our team to try to start saying “before tax” when giving repair quotes to help avoid future misunderstandings.
Lastly, we’re here to help and open to feedback—but directing comments like “duh” or “what the heck” toward our staff crosses a line. Our team works hard to provide clear communication and quality repairs, and we expect the same respect we offer to our customers. If anything’s still unclear, we’re happy to go over it with you directly.

In that time retro game rescue is the only shop I feel I've established a meaningful connection with. This is due to a kind staff that welcomes you, discusses your interests, and most importantly remembers you the next time in. This same staff, and ownership, provides a collection that stands out from the rest. Their selection of rare game accessories, unique memrobilia, and hard to find games feels curated. Nothing in their cases is there simply to fill space. Also as a fighting game player this is the only store I consistently find reasonably priced specialty controllers with any consistency. Experiencia positiva: Pretty disappointed with my experience getting stick drift on controllers repaired here, despite pretty friendly staff and mostly good repair job. New PS5 stick was significantly stiffer than stock, but both Xbox controllers felt just like new. Here’s the rub. There’s a $20 down payment then a more nebulous additional “whatever it ends up costing” to do the repair. I tried to get a ballpark common estimate based on similar repairs, acknowledging that was not a quote, but they refused to narrow to an estimated range but said my controllers looked in good shape and it shouldn’t be too bad. The implication I took away was $20 was the standard and depending on how messed up the repair was could be more, expecting maybe $30/each in the end since repairs are tedious. They do let you know before repairing what the additional cost will be, but by that point you’ve already sunk a fair amount down to just change your mind. For others considering, a replacement drifting stick was $55 for a PS5, $50 for Xbox Series, and $45 for Xbox One controllers, approx 75-80% of full retail cost. There’s something to be said for fixing a product instead of replacing, which is why I wanted to use their service, but ultimately this was a higher cost than I anticipated or was happy with. I felt like this was a job they could have given me a more upfront estimate on to make a more informed decision and am walking away with the impression this was deliberate. I suspect it’s not even an unfair price, few people do these repairs and that has to be for a reason, but the lack of transparency with the non-refundable up front cost combined for a bad experience for me. UPDATE: The store owner reached out by phone within 30 minutes of my review posting, so kudos to that level of customer engagement. His response is correct, both Xbox controllers were $5 less than the initial quote at the end. I was clear I did not expect flat pricing, I was looking for transparency on the estimated cost of work requested to make an informed choice. He countered they do not offer specific repairs, rather they will diagnose and fix problems themselves as determined and that getting more specific than that is beyond the scope of a typical customer or their policy. This is an uncommon position for a repair facility to take, especially a small one, and was not satisfying to me. If the conversation had been “could just be dust build up that needs cleaning out, but if the part needs replaced then 40-50 +/- is average“ it would’ve been the level of estimate I was looking for, but that likely results in less overall business as that’s a big number. I’m going to bump my review up a star since he’s right, it wasn’t ultimately about the service performed and it wasn’t unfairly priced for what they did, but customer service is about helping the customers make the best choices for themselves and I hope this feedback is considered in that regard.

Retro Game Rescue is a small, yet absolutely endearing store full of collectibles, and everything from old school to next gen games and hardware. The people I spoke to inside were wonderful, and honest with me every step of the way, sharing their own experiences with gaming and making my trip worth the time. I ultimately got a good price for what I was selling, and walked away with a copy of a childhood game I haven't been able to play in years, Super Mario Galaxy 2. Retro Game Rescue gets a resounding recommendation from me, I think this kind of spot is what we need more of in both the modern, and classic gaming spaces, a good shop, run by good people.
