Fantastic experience: I am so thankful that this store exists as it's a haven for anyone like me who enjoys retro video games. The manager Greg is always so friendly and knowledgable, and he has given great advice on vintage consoles.

Negative experience: I am leaving a 2 star review due to my second experience going here. Ive been to this place once before and the service and game selection was phenomenal. However, about a week and a half ago I came here again with some friends because I wanted to check this place out again and the selection wasnt nearly as good as the first time but I found stuff I liked however, I felt I was being treated very oddly. I am not sure if their policy has changed because to be fair it has been awhile since I last went here, but I was told by one of the employees (in a serious tone) to have my games put on the counter while I was still looking for other games that interested me. I did not have to do this the first time I was here. That turned off my excitement for being here and I felt very uncomfortable so right after that, I told my friends Im going to go pay for my stuff and we are going to leave. As I was paying, before I even received my receipt, the same employee was checking my receipt for something. What was he checking it my receipt for? Again, I don't know if store policy has changed, but Ive never been to a single store in my life, even other video game stores, where the employee has had to check my receipt. After this I lost much of my excitement for this place and as a result I cannot recommend going here and will not be returning.

Negative experience: Unless you’re speaking with the owner directly it’s going to be a 50:50 when it comes to customer service at a place like this!

Negative experience: The store provides a lot to offer and a wide selection of games BUT the customer service skills within this establishment is outright atrocious! The owner seems like a friendly guy, my issues come from the “right hand man” that feels the need to insult me and my friends every time we visit this place! I would get it if we would cause a disturbance or make a mess but we literally just stand there (silent for the most part) just looking around for games, there’s no reason why we should hear him insulting our appearance or lifestyles. It’s just unprofessional for him to be that passive aggressive when we don’t cause any problems, pay every time and don’t cause any issues for anyone else shopping in the store! Its almost as if he’s expecting us to act a certain way when we are just trying to check out the good deals on some of our favorite childhood games!

Fantastic experience: I’ve been retro game hunting all over the U.S. and I’ve never found anything that comes close to Phoenix Games. Stock rotates quickly, it’s always immaculately clean/organized, and 9 times out of 10 the price beats anything online. All my best finds have come from Phoenix Games, and the staff are always friendly. There’s a reason they’ve been around for so long!

Fantastic experience: I had a video game that I was hoping to sell or trade for store credit and went to Phoenix Games for the first time. They made a solid offer and I walked away with several games that I was happy with in its place. I've been playing since Atari and there was a great selection of games across platforms as well as manuals from the good old days of Gameboy, you know you threw them out, or your mom did. This place puts GameStop to shame. Also, it looks like they have pinball tournaments and was admiring the various machines. Hope to visit again soon. Thanks Phoenix Games!

Fantastic experience: Had a bunch of video gaming consoles, controllers etc that I wanted to sell and met with the owner and his right hand man. Very cool and straightforward dudes. They checked everything out and gave me a very fair price. Great atmosphere great collection of arcade games. Highly recommend

Negative experience: Place is a joke. Brought in 8 in box NES games(two had instructions). My friend told me they pay good for games. Not so much. They offered me $149 in cash. I did my homework before selling. Worth quite a bit more. Little did they know that Ive been collecting and selling for years. Smart ass kid working there asked me where I got the games. This is why you sell online. It may take longer but it's much better. Phoenix games missed out on hundreds of future vintage games.

Fantastic experience: Had a really productive day there getting estimates on my games, playing some arcades and made a purchase of Genesis and Dreamcast games..old-school! The service I got from the twin brothers named Aaron and Shawn was quality. I especially enjoyed how they finished each other's sentences. They know one another well. Highly recommend buying, selling and trading here!

Fantastic experience: The absolute coolest place you can go in Concord. As someone who’s lived in this area my whole life, I was never happier to find any other store. Been dropping by periodically since they were back at the old spot, the arcade in the back keeps getting better and better.

So many amazing games, incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff who helped me figure out a game I played as kid that I couldn't remember the name of. Will be going back many, MANY times for the arcade in the back

Fantastic experience: This place is great. They have so many games across so many systems, several systems, all the peripherals, and a whole bunch of expertise. If you go, give yourself at least an hour more than you think you need. That way you can spend some very reasonably-priced time in their arcade.

Fantastic experience: These guys have extensive knowledge of the console-based video gaming scene inclusive of all popular platforms, and even several vintage ones. You have questions; phone or drop by the store and get answers. While you're here, check out the old school arcade in back. One price gets you unlimited play on a per half hour basis.

Positive experience: I'm so glad that this place exists nearby where I live! A very cool store with lots of Video Game collectibles, for the retro gamer. They have games from old 90s systems to present. They also have new games on the backwall as well, limited run and imports. It's great to have a store that has those rare physical new media and the prices are pretty competitive for them. They also have nintendo power magazines and some plushes / statues. My favorite part of the store though is the pinball arcade in the back. They change like $8 an hour for unlimited play. There's also pacman, the simpsons game, nba jam, and terminator in the back. A few things I'd like to see more of would be more inventory of games spanning different consoles, with better prices. If there was a way to just have a barcode that actively tracks online prices to be competitive, that would be great. I'd also like to see more video game collectibles that aren't the media themselves. I mean posters, books, action figures, plushes. And it would be cool if there was a video game swap from time to time, to meet other collectors in the area.

Positive experience: It's ok. Prices are quite a bit on the higher side but they have a decent selection. Arcades and pinball in the back is the best part. Staff is ok but not really attentive. If you must get a game that day it works, anything else I'd suggest eBay or other places online to save some money.

Negative experience: I actually like this game store. It's hard to find retro game stores nowadays let alone one in my area. I've came here numerous times with no issues because they have good a stock on most retro games and consoles. Unfortunately when it comes to trading games into them I would say don't do it. If I wanted to get 1 dollar for a bunch of almost mint Sega games complete in box I would go to gamestop. I was very disappointed with the prices they were trying to give me. If it wasn't for that I would give 4 stars

Fantastic experience: Great store found a game I've been looking for for years. The guys in the front were really friendly and helpful as well. The arcade is awesome and a great deal for the variety of games and rare machines I've never seen before.

Positive experience: Nice game store, they have a great selection and I always stop by when I'm in the area. Probably my favorite game store in the Bay Area. Took away a star because I don't like that they charge a fee for using credit cards. Just feels a little cheap/dirty. I'd rather they just raise all their prices by a couple percent rather than tacking on annoying fees. Not a deal breaker, but that's my feedback.

Fantastic experience: Wow! I love visiting retro game shops and this stands out as one of the best. It doesn't have a flashy setup or decked out displays, but it's got variety, plenty of stock and lots of rare / uncommon titles. I saw so much that I loved- instruction manuals, cases, uncommon games and, most importantly, GREAT prices. They beat out what you find on eBay easy. The employees are super nice, too. If I didn't live so far away I'd be visiting every week!

Fantastic experience: If you love video games, this store has tons of stuff for you! Staff is super helpful with game recommendations for old systems like the NES all the way to current PS5, Xbox, and Switch! They also probably have the systems to play any of those games as well. Great selection and constantly getting new stuff. Also has a play by the hour full arcade in the back with lots of games and pinball machines. Highly recommend this place. I stop by there regularly!

Fantastic experience: Adorable little store, great selection of products, cute mini arcade in the back, and nice decorations. Employees are friendly and willing to answer questions. Purchased a second hand 2DS from them. Console works GREAT, came with charger, and will be hacked and molded tonight. My only wish is that the console was cleaned just a bit better! There is mystery grime in the cracks of the console. A lot of it was taken out easily by just running a sewing needle through it, but I still wish it was something the shop did themselves. Still, 5/5 stars for such a cute and helpful little store.

Positive experience: They got a lot of cool old games to relive your memories. They also have a disc fixer to fix the game that is worn out of enjoyment. The only downside depends on the way you're coming from. You may have to go down to make a U-turn

Fantastic experience: Hidden gem. I don't know much about their used games operations but they have a cool little pinball/classic arcade area in the back with rotating machines. They switched from coin op to prepay for time slots and it's very reasonable for a quick 15 - 30 minutes of fun.

Negative experience: i went there with a couple of complete in box NES games and they were not fair on the trade in marble madness try to tell me that the "CIB ONLY SALES FOR $14.99" which was false that is what the cartridge is sold for %100 now the CIB in fair condition of marble madness is $50 minimal offering me cartridge buy back price of $5 was so insulting because they know the CIB sells for a lot more then what they are stating and mine was in good condition cib with the poster and all the inserts manual etc they will try to lie and take you're items for penny's and sale them for a lot more and looking at the reviews they dont look %100 legit either a lot of repeated quotes

Positive experience: The store and its arcade are great on a first glance, though most of the games are pretty mid. Still a great place to look for any collectables, as I picked up the Bravely Default collectors edition and a gold cartridge Legend of Zelda copy!

Fantastic experience: My friend showed me this place. I was looking for a Gameboy Advance SP charger and they had it. Plus their selection of games is really solid. They have retro and newer games for the latest gaming consoles. They also sell accessories. I wasn’t able to play on the selection of pinball machines they have since my friends and I were in a bit of a hurry but I will next time I’m here.

Fantastic experience: Enjoyed a fun afternoon in the arcade on their awesome machines - and it was an awesome price. They keep the arcade and main room in nice, clean condition. They were very friendly and attentive to my needs. They even offered to clean a couple game discs that I was buying from them - for free! I bought a after market ps3 control and did have an issue with it but the manager handled it by allowing me to get another no questions ask. I definitely recommend this place for your go to gaming. Fantastic experience: Just recently went there, the people there are very knowledgeable and very courteous. Bought a 19 year old game that looks like it was made yesterday. Their selection of consoles is impressive, they even have some that are hard to find. Granted they may be a little pricer in comparison to something you could buy on eBay or GameStop's website, but places like this are getting harder to find and offer preservation to important pieces to video game history. They're worth every penny, offer a guarantee that whatever you purchase is functional and they truly know their stuff. THAT you won't find in many other places. Edit: After going through more prices and reviews online I’ve found that the prices are around the same for places like eBay and GameStop’s retro store is random at how the quality will be and some have received poor items. On an added note I drove 30 miles to go to this store. Completely worth it. Edit: The value is better then expected. I purchased a console for myself and for a friend and they provided everything with the console (power cable, av cable, etc) free of charge and everything was serviced, inspected and in fantastic shape. Sounds silly but normally I’d have to go through a lot of trouble to find everything because it wasn’t included and you never know the quality of the console until it’s in your hands. It’s worth it buying from this store. You won’t regret it.

Fantastic experience: Phoenix is awesome, they have almost anything you would need to kickstart your entry or re-entry into the retro game lifestyle. Staff is nothing but helpful and welcoming. Their selection is sizeable and they even have multiples of some titles. They also carry accessories and consoles themselves. Needless to say, Phoenix is a no brainer when on the hunt for a particular retro gaming related item, support your local game stores!

Fantastic experience: Haven't been here in almost a year due to covid. Needed to kill some time so I grabbed my quarters and marched right in. To my surprise they changed up the arcade machines pay and play. Instead of quarters you pay for time. $4 = 30 minutes of play time of any game OR $7 for 1 hour. You can play any pinball or cabinet game they have. You can start a game and decide to play something else or you just play the same game for the duration of your time paid for. Would be nice to have the ability to play a console game as such, than again the price might go up. Check them out. Place is always clean and the owner and employees are always helpful and willing to help.

Fantastic experience: Excellent selection of used games for older systems. Super dope mini arcade available for use seven dollars for one hour, four dollars for half an hour. All of the games were functional and entertaining. New Age machines as well as throwbacks. Threw me all the way back to Nickel City days. Loved it, can’t wait to go back.

Positive experience: I have been shopping at this store for almost 10 years. They have some rare games and consoles from the past. They also offer store credit or cash for trade-ins.

Game prices are accurate or low based on current market value and most everything can be personally tested before hand, so people can’t complain something isn’t working. Their arcade is awesome for its size and they even do kids parties. If you want something they have a wait list where they call when they get your desired item in stock. What a Bay Area gem... Fantastic experience: Huge selection of games from every generation. If you are a video game fan or collector this place will dazzle you. They also do disc resurfacing. I just got a copy of Metal Gear Solid(PS1) resurfaced. It wasn't working properly before but now I am an hour into the game and it works flawlessly. Can't wait to come back.

Positive experience: This place has stuff you won't see any place else. All kinds of vintage video games, consoles and other accessories for all of your old school games. The only problem with the place is it's very expensive. but I guess if you want it badly enough it's here.

Fantastic experience: Currently I go to Phoenix for the pinball but I've bought games here in the past. They have a great selection of new and used games a wide variety of consoles and hand-helds. The staff is very helpful and friendly. With a good selection of about 15 rotating tables plus a good number of retro video games, it's a fun place to spend some time. I've been stopping in occasionally for a long time but playing pinball more regularly brings me to Phoenix more often now. Thanks for being a part of Concord's pinball culture.

They also have a good size arcade as well. They regularly hold pinball, arcade and game competitions. If you are looking to have a good time and great experience Phoenix Games is your destination.

Fantastic experience: Got an older Wii system from here still in the box for $10 bucks more. Definitely a bargain! Would've loved to get this system and three games for only $90 back in the day. Lol Got it for a Christmas present for the kids they love it! It was used but still in great condition and no problems whatsoever. Just glad Phoenix games exist! Someone has to have a store with older gen gems and this is definitely the spot to find them.

This shop has everything and with great prices. You have to stop in to see the inventory. Brink quarters because they have retro video games to play.
