Negative experience: Larger guy. Around 6 feet tall. White. Medium length beard. Had glasses with kind of thick black frames, like reading glasses. Shift took place during 1:15 PM, on April 27th, 2026. Store address: 461 Town Center Pl #2, Columbia, SC 29229. “You guys need to get the hell out of my store.“ “You can’t be behind the counter.” “I don’t care please get out of my store.” “Thank you.” The store was formatted in such a way that the items on the back shelf looked like they were made to be walked to. It was not clear that was space for solely behind-the-counter employees. It was an open floor with no ropes, no walls/half walls, or any indicator that was counted as “behind the counter.” Additionally, nobody was standing behind the counter when we walked there, further making it hard to see that area was off limits. That was the only part of the store that had headphones, versus the other gamestop layouts which have them on the right side of the store, accessible for customers to walk to. To top it off, we were barely behind the counter. We were nowhere near the register or any sensitive information or expensive merchandise. When attempting to explain ourselves, we got maybe two words out before he talked over us, persistent in us leaving the store immediately. He saw us for two seconds, and had his mind set that we were not going to be customers, but rather were up to no good. One final note, we never laid a finger on anything, we were solely looking around. Getting into the hypothetical aspect, this employee was on the phone with someone, seeming quite aggravated with the phone call. It felt almost like an employee taking his anger out on us due to someone else over the phone getting on his nerves. I’m sure this store has other great employees, who wouldn’t profile people who wanted to be paying customers. This one though, who may even be the manager (due to him saying “get out of *MY* store…”), has a complete lack of respect, and clearly had a power trip on us with no plausible reason or evidence for it.

Negative experience: One of the worst experiences… 1. My child purchased a trading collectable with his on money, after 5 minutes we returned to store to let them be aware this was incorrect purchase. Item was mint condition without opening and receipt, they would NOT allow us to return. Nothing was tampered - NEVER MENTIONED ANYTHING ABOUT RETURN POLICY, which the should mention prior to any purchase - shady business tactics - avoid ALL GAMESTOPS, will never earn our business

Fantastic experience: My experience was great I had a warranty on my controller and they replaced it. I even bought my Gundam model there. Kyle and Matt are very kind, knowledgeable, and down right awesome folks here in gamestop. I recommend this store to everyone in and out the area. Thank you soo much!!!!

Positive experience: Certainly bigger than the only other GameStop that seems to be left within a 30-mile radius of Columbia. (I may be wrong, saying there are only 2 left, but the company is closing many locations that were around. There used to be 6 in the same radius; now it seems to only be this location and Forest Drive left.) It certainly almost makes me regret buying a yearly subscription if all locations within proximity of Columbia will eventually close. The staff running the location are very polite, and seem to want to converse and make you feel welcome. The location attracts many people to come and try to purchase a variety of items; the location also seems to have become a pseudo TCG shop, but oh boy does gamestop surely suck at trying to be one. I know they have to sell products at a little bit of a mark up, but to sell products of various TCG's way above MSRP(like $60-80 above); its sad to see, cause i know people will buy it, cause many may not know they're being taken advantage of. Its funny that even the workers at the store even mention this, they mention they have no control of prices, but found it ridiculous that the prices were set as such.

Negative experience: Everytime I try to go to this GameStop they always have a sign on the door saying that they have stepped away and will be back at a certain time! It’s never consistent times and online it says that it’s open.

Negative experience: Extremely disappointing customer service. The representative was inattentive and unwilling to listen, showing a clear lack of professionalism. The store itself was disorganized, with long wait lines and barely any staff. The representative stepped out for an hour and a half during business hours without notice. On top of that, there was a constant push to upsell, making the experience feel more like a sales trap than a helpful shopping trip. I won’t be returning. I recommend shopping from better vendors like Best Buy, Costco, and Walmart.

Negative experience: I purchased a used controller on December 9th and added the protection plan in case it broke or wasn't functioning correctly. I hadn't gotten a chance to until recently to test it out and the controll has drift, it continues to move forward even when the joystick is not being pushed. I went to the store to try and switch it out with the warranty that I paid for and the manager said he could not locate the purchase nor the warranty with any of my information. They didn't even have the email, name or phone number saved on file for the warranty that I set up that day. I was told that he couldn't do anything even though I went and got my bank statement showing the date and amount of the purchase in which he even acknowledged would have been the cost of the controller plus the fee for the warranty. I feel like I was scammed. How can a business sign you up and promise something, take money for services and then refuse to deliver or satisfy on the services that were promised upon payment? What do I need to do to get what I paid for? Or is this how they run their business?

Negative experience: For three days in a row I have shown up to try and use up my $5 monthly credit and each time there's a sign under the "Open" sign that says "Had to step out, left at 1:00pm be back at 2:45pm". Today, I went back at 3:05 to find out that someone came back and changed the sign to "2:50-3:50". All this to say, don't bother going here since you have a high probability of them being closed.

Positive experience: As I walk in I start looking at Nintendo switch games and this older lady decides now is the time to take off the Nintendo games off the wall and "reorganize them"....ive been gaming since a child and have never seen this done while a customer is shopping for specfic game titles in that area. I asked her how am I suppose to know what games are available? She told me I had to ask her and she could tell me.. I cannot make this up. This same lady told me "Elden ring" was NOT a game in their system....why would I ask her? While I was there she also got upset with a customer who called in looking for black ops on the Xbox 360. She raised her voice and was borderline yelling at the customer for not being specific enough. These aren't my only encounters I've had with this older lady but this is where I had to stop and post a review. She's very noticeable, has glasses and not many teeth. Gamestop used to take pride in their employees and their knowledge on games. This lady is clearly NOT a gamer and has no knowledge on games and probably hasn't played a video game since atari. The only reason this review isn't 2/5 is because they don't let that deranged lady work solo. She's always supervised, as she needs to be.

Negative experience: Long time shopper. Spent a long time to find 4 games at 9.99 or less for 20.00 bundle. They cannot honor the deal because they are beholden to the computer. You don't deal with humans here. They are AI slaves that do not help humans. They would not help me or my family.

Fantastic experience: Been a loyal GameStop customer for a very long time for always tried to defend this company against the backlash they got but today due to another location I’ll be going else where the game stop in Sandhills worked with a gentleman name Dayton he went out his way to take time to actually explain to me some new changes got the product I needed and made sure he made things right for me vs another GameStop who treated me like an idiot the manger couldn’t even make the time to explain things to me like I was a bother because I was confused so To Dayton from the Sandhills location thank you for actually making a very bad situation better

Negative experience: Called, spoke to a rep, and said I'd be by in a just a moment to purchase the game (was leaving carpool at the time). Watched the guy lazily walk across the street to Five Guys, after he closed the shop at 2:45 when I rolled up. ONLY car on that strip. We literally looked at each other. He KNEW I was coming! Rather than turn around and easily sell the item, he continued. So, I asked when he'd be open again, & he points, "It's on the (handwritten) sign." Unprofessional jerk. 30 min break when your store says it's open until evening? I'll buy from Amazon before spending money with that crummy worker. I'd never recommend this place due to that guy.

Fantastic experience: Had a mix-up where I received a PlayStation/PC headset while trying to purchase an Xbox headset. Brought the item back with the receipt and the staff was able to quickly resolve and swap the items. Great help and friendly staff.

Negative experience: Finally received the receipt via email from GameStop customer service line. Went back to this location and still gave us a hard time. We should’ve received the money back in cash but now we have to possibly dispute the transaction with our bank. The worst part is we have a warranty that last a year, we purchased this product and warranty 5 months ago and they couldn’t find our account because they didn’t input our phone and email correctly. Worst experience! I’ll never buy a product from GameStop ever again!

Negative experience: Many staff members are not familiar with store policies and procedures. I had to call customer services to get the information the store had on hand. Tried to return Switch console that my 5 year never used for cash. The employee forced me to do a debit card transaction when cash was supposed to be paid out(per another store member). Now I have to wait for the money I should have received in cash. Simply will never do business with any GameStop moving forward. 4hrs for one return is insane.

Negative experience: Just left the store after selling a PS4 and realized the cashier gave us 83$ vs the 115$ on the screen. I was wondering why he didn’t give me the receipt but now I know why. Make sure you’re checking because he is not to be trusted. Luckily I’m not broke or needing the money. I couldn’t imagine if this happened to someone else in need. Be careful!

Negative experience: The store says it opens at 10:00 on Saturdays. I need to buy a game for my son's birthday before getting out of town, so I show up at 10:15. It's closed. Try to call - no answer. Eventually an employee comes and opens the door but then immediately tries to lock me out. I ask and he says there not open. I point out the time and he says, 'Not today.'

Negative experience: I’ve been to this location a few times and never had an issue, until yesterday. I purchased a headset because my sons was not working. I attempted to explain that their was a piece that my son uses (60p usb amplifier) and instead of trying to understand, they were pretty dismissive. My thoughts are if you didn’t know, say that instead of trying to make me sound like I didn’t know what I was talking about. I guess eventually they decided to tell me it was an older piece. This GameStop is closer to my home now, but I will go back to the one on Forest Drive, they are always helpful, even if they don’t know the answer.

Positive experience: FYI: Curfew in Sandhills is about 6 pm. Children 16 and younger will be embarrassed by security if their parents drop them off. So, yes they have to go with you to Bi-lo to avoid all that.

Fantastic experience: For the pass month I been waiting for a delivery of a exchange Xbox 360 S through my warranty from the Camden location coming from the Sandhill location. I have called multiple times. Kept getting the run around that they call me when it comes. Last call I finally spoke with the manager he said he didn't know of it none of the employees informed him. He told me to come and do a drive exchange. I decided to not to accept the offer. I came to the sandhill location. Told the manager Ryan extremely nice gentleman what was going on. He not only switch out my Xbox system right there, let me keep my chrome controller, and gave me a free 2 year warranty also because all the hassle it caused me. Will definitely only associate my business buying through this location for future buys. Thank you so much for helping me.

Positive experience: The store only had one person working at Christmas time. The line was very long and several people were selling their Xbox or Playstation which had to be played to check the machine. It took over 30 minutes to checkout.

There are four other GameStops in my area I will not return to this location! Go to the Game Stop off of Two Notch in the Walmart shopping center, they have better customer service!

Negative experience: Even though it's a game stop I feel like we should be able to get better offers on games whether we buy or sell to or from them. It's sad to think the reason everyone would rather just buy games or items digitally is because you arnt going to get anything back for it anyway and if you do you're only selling it on Facebook.
