Experiencia fantástica: Made a quick stop to get a Gamecube controller and browse the used video games. Store was clean, well-organized, and staffed by the most intriguing character. I was waiting to hear them say "What are ya buyin'?", but it was instead a pleasant "Hello! How can I help you?" or something along those lines. They also had some real nice selection of rare games. Definitely will be going again.

Experiencia fantástica: I've already been here a couple times, awhile ago I had to sell some games to pay Bills, recently I stopped by again just to look around (and of course play some of the arcade cabinets, mostly 1up cabs, but very fun and one of the reasons you should visit). The person behind the counter was very kind, the usual "hi there, can I help you find anything" which is a great kind of usual, you want that kind. (Also side note, that individual had a great bandana mask thing. That individual had a great aesthetic going on too. ) And the selection was fantastic in every sense. Every, or close to every console, was represented. As well some accessories, and other cool things. Highly recommend if you are in the area! Or just needing a cool place to go for games! This place is so fantastic here's 38 or so reasons why you should! As in these pics and videos. Yes, that. Haha. Enjoy!

I wasn't going to go into detail about that, but your very strange reply made me feel like more needs to be said. Lucky it isn't a one star tbh.

Experiencia fantástica: By far the best game store in Minnesota. I live 50 minutes away and still visit at least once every 3 months. Amazing decorations, arcade machines, and selection of consoles. So many games for so many consoles, all at great prices! I found games I had completely forgotten about, games I didn't know existed, and games I've been wanting to find for years. Also has a great array of playing cards, collectible cards, and merch. Definitely a must see if you are a gamer and are in the area!

There was also a large array of consoles, games, cards, and other collectibles for purchase. Also having the free to play games at the front is an added bonus! 100/10 will definitely return!

The store has everything to satisfy my nostalgic needs! Not to mention right when you walk in you're greeted by retro arcade game machines that are FREE to play! I highly recommend to everyone visiting the Maplewood/North St. Paul area.

I bought a final fantasy mtg starter kit price at 34.99, they charge me like 37.99 because I'm using a credit card (no explanation so that's what I assume). Went out shopping at Roseville mall a day later and saw the same item for 19.99 at games by James. 18 bucks over is a lot.

Experiencia positiva: Disclaimer: My review may seem negative in nature but the flaws, I feel, should be pointed out as such to help better the experience for others. I am not hating, I just want to see better. Whilst the game selection and console variety were better than expected, the overall atmosphere was not as welcoming as I would hope. The walls and shelves are lined with AI generated images in place of actual art framed on the wall, a lot of the products are Chinese / third market knockoffs, (such as figures, plush toys, fake LEGOs, and posters,) makes the trip a disappointment and not at all fun to look at. I would expect better from a game store, ESPECIALLY regarding the use of AI generated images. I, as an artist, would even personally offer to redraw the "art" used myself for use in the store, free of charge, just to see it replaced with the work of a real person, who put real time and effort into the pictures lining the walls. I would hope that people as enthusiastic about pop culture as the owners should be, would have enough heart to give real artists the time of day and replace the awful pictures that were generated in seconds by a machine. Not that the whole experience was bad. I purchased a console and a couple other things, which, I have not checked just yet, but were told to be working, even if the console is very flawed cosmetically. Though another complaint I have, the PlayStation 3 controllers on display state they're officially licensed by Sony, but are actually 100% knockoffs, which is absolutely illegal, and while I'm not fully faulting the store, it should still be in their best interest to outright show they're not officially licensed. The store does offer a nice 1 year warranty regardless of the damage and does not require a receipt, which is a good practice, and offers free water, which, again, is a positive. The arcade section is also very decent with a good selection, and the consoles they DO have are very very impressive, and, for the most part, decently priced. Overall, I don't think I had a bad experience, but the flaws are glaring and very fixable, and I feel as if putting in that extra work to at the very least replace the AI generated artworks and work to better the experience. I'm not trying to dog the store, I just want them to do better, and am eager to return as long as, once I'm able to test what I did purchase and make sure it works, to see them expand and get better.

I was welcomed and helped out with the layout of the store and then they kindly checked up on me later to see if I needed more help. Great staff!

I was really uncomfortable seeing who I assume were the owners or an employees kids working behind the counter rather than the adult sitting nearby... Then I saw they've been leaving disparaging comments and lying about people that leave negative reviews. Can't say I'll be going back.

Experiencia negativa: Supporting local game stores (LGS) is important in an era where you can just pick games and cards up off the internet, usually at cheaper prices. Supporting LGS's during a pandemic is even more important. I chose to preorder 2 Pokemon Elite Trainer Boxes from this store in January. When I asked about the price they refused to tell me how much it would cost. I waited and called every few weeks to check on the price but was never given an answer. Come release day for the cards I'm told the price is equivalent to that of scalpers online (125). The store tried to reason that "well our price was cheaper by 20 dollars yesterday (citing tcgplayer having users selling for 145-160), and we're still (single digit) dollars cheaper today. The owner attempted to talk about how they're cheaper on everything else in the store (used games) and their philanthropy with other customers (giving away xbox 360s). I refuse to believe that the store needed to scalp their customers for this card set. When you preorder something, you're agreeing that you want to purchase at item at or around MSRP. That's how it works at LGS's, despite the demand for whatever the item is. To the owner, a pre-order is not me signing up to be scalped. Don't try to talk about how you're only doing it to make sure your store stays open. You're abusing your customers trust. I sincerely hope your policies on pre-orders change in the future, until then I'd advise everyone to find another LGS. I was able to get the same box of cards from Source for $55. I asked Source staff and they agreed that this owner is just being greedy. Vote with your wallet ---------------------------------------- Edit since the owner responded. I had an inkling that the owner might respond similarly to how he did. I have a recording of our interaction here. This was recorded in accordance with Minn. Stat. § 626A.02. YT video ID - aXl7ciyqiO4 My voice was not raised. I didn't ask for any sort of discount. I made my case and I attempted to leave 2 or 3 times. As mentioned in the video, you as a business can and should make a profit from things you sell. 125 on something that costed you (I'm assuming 30-50 at most) is taking advantage of your customers. And if you really wanted to be the sort of guy you say you want to be, charging less than online, then the price should probably move when the online price does. You said yourself you saw the price change between launch day and the day before, so you should have lowered it in accordance with that. As I said, I'm sure you had no problem moving the boxes for the price you chose to charge, but I won't support that sort of business. I was only really interested in the trading card portion of your store. Giving away this, and donating that is great. It really is. But it won't make a difference in where I spend my money. It just makes it seem like you're trying to give yourself points. Making false claims about what I did and did not do in your store kind of speaks volumes about what sort of person you are. Experiencia negativa: Nice arcade but any game over $20 is priced on the spot to an eBay "buy it now" so good luck finding any deals. I was also told with a shrug that they don't "have to do it that way" and I could go find it somewhere else. Literally no price haggling. And 3 years after the fact, I'm still getting angry responses on my review. Surprised this place is still open...

It's not a daycare, but if you've got a kid or two that likes arcade games, stop by, let them get a few games in, and check out the rest of the place. Lots of older consol games, you might find a treasure.

The owner is an amazing guy and is very knowledgeable about everything he sells. So if you want to rekindle your love for all of your old video games needs this is the place to go.

Experiencia fantástica: Great selection of old consoles and games. Very fair pricing, especially considering the free 1-year warranty they offer on everything. That gives you peace of mind when you're buying 30-40 year old stuff. It's not just talk, either. When I had an issue the owner went above and beyond to make it right. Speaking of, the owner is a really nice and chill guy. As are the other employees. Games, consoles, and accessories are clean and generally in better condition than I've seen elsewhere, older ones included. You can tell they give everything some TLC before setting it out for sale. The shop itself is clean and well-lit. It has a number of arcade cabinets in the front, all free to play. There's ample parking, too. Sure, you could save a few bucks on eBay, but you'd be missing out on all the perks of shopping at here. The overall quality and cleanliness on offer plus the amazing customer service has made this my go-to destination for retro gaming.

Right when you walk in there are games you get to play for free great idea for kids obviously don’t play for too long lol. The customer service was absolutely out of this world. I wasn’t just said it’s over there. I was helped and I am definitely coming back. I was totally impressed with all of the Legos. They had action figures!! They even had the balloon dog clown Lego!! Experiencia fantástica: 1Up is hands down the BEST retro video game store in the Twin Cities area and the BEST retro video game retail experience I've ever had. Walking in before ever seeing any games you are welcomed by a plethora of free arcade games that alone could keep me busy for hours. Soon after the arcade, you'll see their AMAZING inventory of modern and retro games, controllers, consoles, accessories, and much more all at fair and competitive pricing with several good deals to be found. I cannot get over how many games they have for every system you can imagine. Their PS2 section alone is bigger than some stores entire inventory. Their staff is incredibly passionate and kind. He helped answer all my questions, shared a little history on a game I was looking for, and was more than happy to indulge my geeking out while being there. The environment and energy is overwhelmingly positive and I cannot say enough good things about 1Up. I wish I was local so I could come here again and again. This will definitely be a must stop anytime I'm in the Twin Cities. This place should serve as the blueprint for all game stores. Seriously...it's that good.

The owner was really kind and patient with our questions. I had no clue when we went that there were FREE arcade games! That was such a fun bonus, we had tons of fun with them all. Experiencia fantástica: 1Up Video Games is a great store. They have an awesome arcade in front that is completely free- with Street Fighter II, Killer Instinct, Golden Axe, Pac Man and more. Solid selection of rare titles and CIB retro games and always constantly getting more stock in store. The owner, Scott, is a great dude. Always respectful and honest with his customers and actually cares. He also gives fair trade in offers, and his prices aren’t as high as other local gaming stores. Hidden gem for gamers. Not to mention they have some really cool arcade games in the front of the store. The parking lot does have a lot of pot holes you have to watch out for but that's a very minimal issue for me. Experiencia negativa: I visited this business for the first time today. And while their inventory and facility seemed impressive, their service is not. I brought in games and accessories to sell, only to be told they didn't have a buyer in and the buyer only works Thursday mornings, Friday evenings, and Saturdays. This reeks of control-freak micromanaging leadership/ownership. If the first thing your website advertises is that your business buys games from all systems, all employees should be empowered to do so. I would rather support a local game store over a corporate one; but sadly, I cannot recommend this local game store.

First walking in you encounter a dozen FREE old school arcade games, the ones you never see anywhere! Pokémon Fans Alert!!!! Be sure to bring quarters for the Poke Card Machine! Lots of other Pokémon merchandise as well! Old School Gamers!!!! Huge assortment of ALL old schools (and new) console games! Extremely fair prices! Lego Fans!!!! A glass case filled with RARE Lego characters! Unfortunately this store is in a different state than I, but rest assured I will go again next time I’m in town! A St.Paul must!

Experiencia positiva: I really like this store and want to keep or around. Physical media has never been more important and places like this keep that possible. Great selection, great staff,and the arcade sucks me in every time I walk in. The prices can feel a tad high, but if you woke up this morning wanting to play a game from your past, skip the emulator and go for the tactile experience, nothing beats the feeling of slapping a cart in a console.

This entire store is an absolute labor of love--from the free retro arcade games (with classics like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and TMNT) to the massive collection of clean, well-organized video games from every era and Yu-Gi-Oh/Magic The Gathering cards, everything at 1Up is clearly the product of the owner and his staff pouring their hearts and souls into bringing their dream store to life. The staff carefully refurbish and clean every single video game before it goes on sale. The collection of 'complete' older titles (ie, original box/manual, etc.) on sale is impressive, and if you're interested in purchasing one of these items, the staff will usually let you inspect the item. The prices for 'loose' cartridges are INCREDIBLY reasonable, and the prices for items in their original boxes are exactly what they should be! They know the value of the items they are selling, but don't use this information to jack up the prices. This store is NOT for resellers, and that's fantastic. It's a place where collectors can go and find items for their collections at a fair price. Unlike some video game stores, the staff are friendly, passionate, and welcoming--they have absolutely no interest in being snobby or elitist. They're happy to answer questions (no matter how 'stupid' you might worry it is!), chat about the games you're interested in, and will go above and beyond to make sure you leave the store happy and satisfied. Also, I brought in my Sega Game Gear to see if they could repair the faulty screen, and Scott, the owner, put me in touch with the person who handles repairs for the store. Super grateful for that! ....I'm going to spend so much money here. I hope my wallet forgives me.

Experiencia positiva: Formerly Hi-Score video games, now 1Up Video Games, is a great location for video games of all kinds, gaming systems, magic, pokemon and a lot more. The owner and employee's are respectful and the gaming area is pretty spacious. They have done a good job of providing a safe place for people to game in person with all the uncertainty revolving around COVID-19. I would suggest a visit if you want to get a feel for the place yourself. I am certain you will enjoy the trip!

Experiencia fantástica: This is the place to go for vintage games not only do they have a nice selection they back what they sell. We had an issue with a power supply for an Atari 2600 we purchased they were more than patient in troubleshooting the issue and eventually swapping out the power supply. Alex was super amazing in helping us with this!

Experiencia fantástica: They purchase used games and game accessories. They have a great selection of older game consoles and games for them as well. They also have a good selection of free arcade games in the front of the store that people can play for free! They also have many board games and card games you can either buy, or you can just hang out and play their games or you can bring your own games to play with others. They have tables towards the back part, where the store is for people to hang out, play, and socialize!!

Experiencia positiva: They didn't have what I was looking for, but the staff was helpful and friendly. Looks like a cool store, but I wasn't there long. Only complaint was that the parking lot sucked, but that's not on the store and has no bearing on the rating I gave.
